Used to be back in the day, was a bit of a Hornythologist. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

hi, sorry for slow reply, yes, I’m in SW France. 40 deg is not unusual here, we had one day of 40 deg this past May and in previous years we have had 43/44 deg. Basically that is too hot to do much at all. But the thing that surprises me more is when we get a winter with a proper continental cold snap - down to negative 5-10 deg. So more than 50 deg range of temperature.
But after 30 years of enduring a London commute in sweltering summer temperatures, even if merely 30 deg, I would swap a 40 deg here for that any day.

I agree…I think high temperatures in a city feel more intense…there is just no relief because the air has nowhere to go…it just hangs there. I moved just a couple of miles out of town recently and the air quality is so different. Still…40°C is way more than the average person can cope with!

Do you think we’ll have a lockdown…They seem to be very popular in times of threat to the public?

Hi

I am on a self imposed lockdown, which annoys me.

I used to enjoy high temperatures and would happily backpack in jungle with very high temperatures.

I have to be sensible however, which is very difficult for me, I am very independent.

High temperatures do not not mix with heart failure and a fluid and salt daily limit.

I am becoming semi nocturnal in this heat.

It is amazing what you can do with heart failure if you are reasonably sensible.

Have you considered protesting?

Thank you Swimmy, you are a lesson to all people who go chasing the sun and heat. I think with increasing temperatures all over the world, we all need to go “semi nocturnal” and slather on cream to protect us. Even up here on the cooler side of the country, I’m seeing people wander around half dressed as if they are on the beach and turning a vibrant red. :astonished:

Hi

Of course I have , but that would be self harm, which I am not into.

I am into living a great life for as long as possible and enjoying every minute.

Heart Failure is easy to disguise, in this heat you just stop for a long leisurely lunch and regular stops in air conditioned shops and coffee houses.

It really is that simple.

A man bag, a cross shoulder thingy is also acceptable these days, they are quite cool things to have.

You do not want to be carrying a heavy shopping bag in your left hand.

My hanging baskets are loving it!
I just need to remember to water them more frequently, nearly had a couple of casualties this afternoon!

Certainly looks sore

Oh I lost my hanging baskets last week  Even though it wasn’t really sunny, the wind dried them out and I didn’t water them enough. I brought them inside to empty them out, re-compost them and plant new seeds in. I feel very neglectful.
