Another time Margaret, for sure, but not just now…I’m in the middle of moving house, so it would likely end up boxed up and sent to the charity shop :joy:

I clean my carpet nearly every week, I have even taken a torch to it, because you can’t see the dog hairs with the naked eye, I could not believe what was embedded in my stair carpet, I had a heck of a job getting all that dog hair out…I think age may play a part to the dog smell as well.

I would happily do your ironing if you would do my vacuuming!

when you said take a torch to it I thought you meant set it ablaze Pauline! I’d have flooring on the stairs but the carpet fitters at carpetright told me they won’t do that.

we will have to have half of you each!

I got a private fitter in to do mine,as it’s a spiral staircase, I wish I’d never had it done, I wet cleaned it and I believe there is moisture trapped in the under lay as it smells…

You can’t beat laminate for hygiene, carpet does give that luxurious feel and smell ,when it’s new…

I agree with you Margaret. Sounds vert much like OCD to me.
My dogs do not stink, and neither do my carpets.
Their bedding is washed at least weekly, and they are groomed regularly, so why on earht would they smell?

Hi Annie, I haven’t got carpets throughtout. The kitchen, bathroom and hallway is laminate.
My breed of dog does not moult either, like Poodles don’t too. That is why I have to bath and clip them to keep their coats clean and tidy.
Like I just said to Margaret, they are bathed and clipped every few weeks, and their bedding is washied at least once a week.
If they have muddy feet, their feet are stuck in a warm soapy footbath outside the back door and towel dried, only takes a few minutes.

Providing a dog is healthy, I cannot think of any reason why it should smell, not unless they have a lot of wind (in which case change their diet), or else they need a bath and clean bedding.

I think if we are so obsessed with cleanliness, why have pets in the first place? I don’t get it.

Owners who have a lot of dogs, get used to their smell, so can’t smell how much their home can stink…I’ve cleaned quite a few homes who have 3 or more dogs, just speaking from my own experience.:weary: some I couldn’t go back to.

The owners of the bungalow we bought from had four dogs, she couldn’t smell the stink from her carpets that all those dogs made, as she asked if we would like to purchase them in the sale…we said no thanks…yet she left them anyway…they absolutely stank and we had to rip them up…we also found dog crap in the bungalow as well, after purchasing it…:weary:

Having a lot of dogs in a house, can’t imo be hygienic either.:weary:

But Pauline, you even complain about your ONE poor old dog shedding hair and smelling, so I can imagine why you think several would be so awful.

I can assure you mine do not smell, and never have done. I have plenty of visitors that know me well enough to tell me if this wasn’t the case.

Deleted.

Wrong again Pauline. I haven’t taken it personally at all.
But you are just generalising, and judging any doggy household the same as the ones you know.

As for you not complaining about Jack, you are always saying about all the hair you have to clean up and how it gets into the carpet and how he smells!

I will leave it there, because I know my dogs and my home, and you don’t, so not worth getting heated about.

After much consideration, and my failure to find a self cleaning floor, I settled for one you walk on. Tile. :grinning: :grinning:

I agree I have laminates in the kitchen and carpets in the front and bed rooms .
I have a dog and it doesn’t smell I don’t wash him that often it’s not good for dogs
Anyway too much cleaning and chucking chemicals all over the place is bad for the environment .
There is being clean and hygienic and there is being obsessive .
It makes people very hard to live with .

The other thing with carpets is that you have that crevice between the wall and the carpet where the hoover attachment doesn’t reach however much you try. I didn’t realise just how dirt can get in there until we recently changed the hall carpet after 13 years. When the old carpet was removed there was so much dust and dirt just underneath that wall and carpet crevice. If it where up to me I would love one of those Spanish type houses with floors and stairs tiled with marble or just tiled. So practical and lasts forever. Carpets are so needy.

This made me laugh! Nothing worse than a clingy carpet :joy:

I’ll bear this in mind, and possibly try something DIY-ish to prevent build up in those areas :+1:
