Is he actually refusing to leave?
Yes, legally he could not run. That said, there is no way the Republicans would run him again; he has put the final nail in his own political coffin.
I think the point being made in terms of the impeachment and all the arrests and subsequent punishments is that the rational reasonable people in this nation have zero tolerance for what has transpired in the last week when it comes to the attack of our Constitution and its institutions. It sends a warning salvo to the extremists on both ends of the political spectrum.
Thanks for that info SM.
Looks like the Impeachment vote has succeeded⦠231 Aye, 197 Nay, 5 votes not cast yet, as I type. It guarantees no more Donnie Demented in the next election, eh!
I donāt think so. They just want to stop him running again.
This is draining the swamp in action.
So much for all those spouting the āTrump 2024ā rubbish.
Update: The House has voted to impeach with ten Republicans crossing party lines to vote in favor of impeachment. The House will not convene until Friday, and did not send a resolution to the Senate before closing todayās session. Immediately, the Senate leader, Mitch McConnell, released a statement that due process by way of Senate hearings, cannot be completed before the inauguration, and these hearings must be conducted before a vote. There is no precedent for impeachment after a president has left office, but it is not impossible. It will be seen whether or not other legal avenues will be pursued.
Folks need a maverick spate, once in a while.
ā¦and a few hours after the Houseās passage of the impeachment resolution:
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia is Filing to Impeach Joe Biden the day after the inauguration for ābeing bought off by foreign governments, Chinese energy companies, Ukrainian energy companies.ā
No mention of the cabal of Satan-worshiping pedophiles ???
So, in other words - nothing will really happen or it could get tied up in litigation for a prolonged periodā¦
Who wants to bet that Trump will pardon himself and his family next?
What did Donald Trump actually say ?
Does anyone have the text where asked his voters for insurrection, riots and invading the Capitol Building ?
Bread, her are some of the quotes that the House claimed instigated the riot: AP FACT CHECK: Trump's call to action distorted in debate
You will have to go back to the transcript and some those of the others.
It is really important do understand abroad that an impeachment is like a grand jury. It is a statement that there is enough evidence for a trial.
Minx, it could take a while, but that is how due process works here. The President, like any accused, has a right to face his accusers and defend himself - which means he has to be given time to build his case. Even if the Senate decided not to try, the President has a right to demand a trial, if he chooses to do so.
If the resolution is sent today, the procedures leading to the trial could begin as soon as th 21st.
By the way, the President finally spoke last night. It was a calm, cogent speech demanding denouncing the violent insurgents as not his followers, and demanding a peace during the inauguration.
I was after the actual transcript of what he said because to my knowledge he never said these things (although Guiliani may have).
Also there was no constitutional hearing regarding his impeachment and no evidence on both sides given, the while thing was wrapped up in 8 hours where it took 21 days in the courts the first time around and about 30 days to impeachment Clinton. This is the Democrats and in particular Nancy Pelosi who bypassed the whole impeachment process because she and her socialist mates already decided he was guilty of something he didnāt actually say or do.
And yet I still see no evidence coming forward on here either of what he actually said when he is accused of calling for insurrection and riots. To me knowledge he actually said āpeaceful protests by our party and behave like patriotsā (more or less).
If he did say these things it would be on a media loop 24/7, but strangely it isnāt⦠probably because he didnāt actually say the things he has been impeached for.
Bread, the transcript and video of the speech is all over the internet. You are welcome to do the search as you will be most satisfied with your own findings.
Perhaps you are confusing the impeachment with the Senate trial. The impeachment, like a grand jury, does not include include submissions by the potentially accused. It is only a determination of whether or not there is enough evidence to accuse someone with a crime and to proceed with a trial. The Constitution does not explicitly require a formal hearing prior to impeachment in the House. All hearings and the trial itself do not take place until a resolution of impeachment is sent to the Senate.
Iāve looked all over the Internet and I canāt find them. I was hoping someone could provide a link.
One of many for the video. Transcript includes annotations, so you may prefer the one below.

One of many video and transcript:
Hi
I have worked with the Americans for many years.
I find the Republican/Democrat system weird.
They are however fierce supporters of Democracy and they will sort Trump.
They will simply not allow a coup to take place.
They are fiercly defensive of the voting system.
I have never understood their fixations on guns, in the same way that they have never understood our security people not carrying guns routinely.
When push comes to shove they always do the right thing and Trump and CO will get sorted.
Calm and cogent, but not sincere. His speech writer did well, letās hope the inauguration goes ahead without incident.
