To Pierce, or Not to Pierce: That is the Question

After more than a half century on the planet, I am thinking about getting my ears pierced.

The only downsides I see are the inconvenience of having one more thing to add to my daily routine, keeping track of them, or forgetting to take them out when I surf.

Thoughts?

I was 60 before I had My ears pierced, but was kind of forced into it as when My Granddaughter wanted Hers done,I said “it’s ok Darlin,it won’t hurt”…Her reply was “You go first then Granny”

I had mine done when I was a baby, so no idea if it hurt or not. It does give far more scope for earrings as they make many more for pierced ears than not.

I’d say if you love earrings go for it just don’t do what my late niece did and get that big at the top of your ear done she said that really hurt !

I had my ears pierced when I was 18 and fainted in the jewlers

I don’t bother with earrings these days, Chloe is my main companion and isn’t bothered what I wear.

I just hang turnips from my lugs.

I had mine done in the back of my Ford Transit (parked by the side of Lake Bala) when I was 21 - my girlfriend used a needle and a cork … :103:

No anaesthetic but whisky for sterilisation (and courage … :-|) …

I had mine pierced at 17, didn’t hurt at all

Ear rings are the only jewellery I wear other then my wedding band

Get some good gold sleepers. They are small hoops that you can sleep and swim in - so assume you can surf. Keep the diamonds for going out

I was 50 when I had my ears pierced, persuaded by my daughter … best advice she has ever given me

My granddaughter wanted her ears done because most of the girls in her class had theirs pierced. My daughter and I took her to the jewellers, she had her ears pierced and she immediately fainted. :surprised:

 goodness Omah, I have a whole new vision of you now

It was quite a long time ago …

Did my own when I was 16. Bar of soap behind the ear, quick jab with the needle and done.

Seldom even wear earrings now because they need to be at least 14K gold or infection starts.

Well, Nom stole my idea about the turnips, which means that I might have to opt for beets instead.

Now the only question that remains is why one would have to have one’s ears pierced in tbe backseat?

Good stories. So, how do you all keep from losing your little delicate earrings when you travel?

Do you sleep in them?

I hadn’t even considered or am am worried about any intial discomfort - I’ve been sliced, diced, and stuck more than a potato.

SM  you can wear ‘sleepers’ a lot of the time they are a full circle and don’t catch on things.

A Ford Transit is what we in the UK call a “van” - no back seats - mine was a bit like this:

We put a mattress on the floor in the back and lined the interior bodywork with velvet curtains with satin cushions - very “hippie” …

Anyway, we’d parked up for the night and, prior to going to the pub, my girlfriend was dressing herself up (lots of bangles, rings, etc) and she decided I should “match” so she pierced my ears and inserted some dangly ear-rings …

Ah yes, the old ‘passion wagon’

Cool! Oh, trust me, Omah we had our share of vans too in southern California. I was expressly forbidden to go out with boys who drove them.

Now I realize that this was really a conspiracy between my parents to keep me from getting my ears pierced…

Excellent to know, thank you for chipping away at my ignorance.

Surfermom, do you have me on ignore?

I had my ear pierced when I was 20 (It was a Hippy thing  ). Still wear a silver sleeper to this day and never take it out. I’ve had this particular one a good twenty years or so.

What with my beard and earring, I just need a spotted hankie on my head now for that pirate look.
