Mum had one of these, I remember her with the pink hood on drying her curler lol awwww the memory
Polystyrene ceiling tiles. So light, so easy to cover a damaged ceiling or walls but an absolute disaster in a house fire situation.
And I seem to have them up on the ceiling above my stair case! Might get a plasterer in sometime to remove and see what’s underneath. I’m not too happy about inheriting them with the house.
Linoleum and wood-chip wallpaper. The latter is a pig to get off as well.
On that note…has anyone mentioned Artex walls yet? I had some artexing on a wall of a room when I was a kid…it was curved like rainbow shaped, done with a “special” comb. Gave a nasty scrape if you bumped up against it!
I remember those scrapes well and still have a mark on one arm decades after the event.
Me too!, on the back of my hand at the wrist joint Nasty stuff!
Worse than injuries caused by artex walls are injuries caused by artex ceilings with the stippled finish. I have many a scar on the top of my bonce, with an increasing number and intensity directly proportional to my hair loss.
Any DIY such as painting or changing light fittings was likely to result in another scrape. Now I wear a bump hat kindly supplied by my former employer.
Some memories need to be forgotten but
…who else had three babies all at once in Terry Towelling Nappies…
This Nappy Pin is actually still in use…

Four girls. The first 9 months after our honeymoon (no surprise there then) No 2 just 1yr 20days later … again no surprise as we wanted our family quickly. No 3 was our son who didn’t make it so a break for medical reasons and then No3 another 3yrs later. Daughter No 4 was adopted as a still breast-feeding babe straight on as No3 was weaned; so nappy pins featured highly in my home. I became proficient at nappy changing, but the horrific Burco nappy boiler was for me, the the devil incarnate😈
Coal and coke, coal scuttles, sugar shakers, and sugar tongs,
All the coal holes have been converted to utility rooms .
Still got my grandmas toasting fork
Still in use in my house on formal occasions - along with butter curlers!
That looks like something a Midwife would use.
To make curly hair?
Oil lamps. We still have one fully charged with pink paraffin for emergencies.
I don’t think they shave expectant mums any more and the enemas have also been consigned to history
