Ah! a Gazunda
Yep.
Flat irons.
I believe LD put a picture up one of those earlier in the thread.
I still have one actually, I use it as a doorstop at my back door. Can’t remember where I even got it from now, though think it may have been my Nan’s.
I’ve still got one of these old iron shoe lasts too. I use it to prop the side gate open.
I think it was Dad’s.
I remember I used to tack little metal things into the heels of shoes when I was a kid because I liked the tapping noise they made when I walked.
Sad aint I.
Blakey’s ?
I had them,I must have been sad too.
Just had top look that up Smiffy, I didn’t know they were called that - and yes, those little metal bits are exactly what I meant. Well done.
Ah, OK. Mt father had shoe lasts too. He was quite good at mending our shoes. We don’t see cobblers (!) any more. Here’s another one we don’t see either?
Besoeker…what is that? A light?
Yes, an oil carriage lamp.
Thanks! It looks interesting…what size is it? Its hard to tell from the picture, but I would guess maybe the size of a book?
It’s 5 inches tall and 2.5 inches wide. Yes, I know I can measure it in metric but it’s over a hundred years old the ages in keeping with the unit…
Bible boxes, from a time when a large, heavy, printed book was a valuable item and needed to be kept safe.
This one belonged to my Great Grandfather. I now use it to keep important household documents safe.
That looks really sturdy, Fruity…
I had those too, because I was really hard on shoes and always wore the sides down very unevenly. I also ruined those metal things, because I liked to make sparks with them if I slammed my feet down hard on the pavement.
… and the airing cupboard.
Interesting. What was aired out in it?
Clothes after washing & drying.
Yup…I remember them!
