I expect the USA think the same about us, with good reason. The only problem is we need Trump a lot more than he needs us.
We’ve made ourselves a pawn on the world stage when we used to be Queen… ![]()
Perhaps I should rephrase that…

It is ok, I was born in Brighton

Sounded funny and a bit of humour is good!
The world has changed since we had our Empire. We’re just a little island now who need a strong, reliable ally and that is not the US.
We’ll end up gravitating back to Europe.
Why Not?

I’m optimistic because the alternative is too horrible to contemplate and something all countries will work to avoid. I’m a great believer in the ability of humanity to cooperate when their survival is so at risk.
I wasn’t really considering Britain’s position but the global economy and monetary stability
The thought we were queen was illusory, it was all about soft power . Britain still has plenty of that. But many of our young people are very complacent. All the elf & safety and being an insta generation doesn’t build global leaders.
We’ve always been part of Europe Morty, but not the EU…Don’t confuse the two… ![]()
Don’t give up on the American people either, I’m sure they will be there should we need them.
Five years down the line we’ll wonder what all the fuss was about.
it will be a very different world in 5 years not because of Mr T but because of AI
I see the future as being what the long-term changes in the gulf streams flow is going to cause. this Political Hari-Cari is mostly just total bull
That delusion ended a century ago. The second delusion was that the UK would be more important if we left the EU. The UK is part of Europe and maybe soon back in.
Trumps mental capacity is now being called into question openly among world leaders.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is the master of the art of exactly landing a savage point, while apparently saying something relatively benign.
“And I think we would certainly suggest that people, sane people across the world, should support the call for peace against any form of injustice, atrocities, whether he made reference specifically to Gaza or the position in the Middle East, for that matter, after the aftermath of the Israeli-American attack on Tehran and Iran.”
Trump’s objective to end the war was to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which was only closed because of the war he started, but now it’s open again he’s going to keep it closed until the war ends? ![]()
the whole world should seek war reparations from the US.
Iran’s military command says it has closed the Strait of Hormuz again over the US blockade.
But US President Donald Trump says the blockade will continue until a peace deal is reached.
Being important is not that important Lincs, being in control of our own destiny, being more independant and producing our own stuff should be the priority. Give our young people jobs and only importing the raw materials and the things we cannot make.
Not in the EU we won’t…Not on my watch… ![]()
I’m inclined to agree with you … the US is too fickle.
I had no views either way over Brexit but can’t see we’ve gained anything by leaving … except a massive divorce settlement for them.
And geographically,as opposed to politically, it makes sense.
I wonder who Canada feel allied to these days.
There’s not much chance of us been in control of our destiny or more independent … to a degree Brexit promised that, and failed … we’re just too small to be wholly independent.
Trump has rather made that clear. Trouble with him is you’re viewed as a vassal rather than an ally and why not. We are just a piddly island.
I never voted Brexit first time around but should there ever be another referendum I’d seriously consider voting to rejoin the EU.
I rarely agree with you over EU/Brexit issues but here you are likely to be right. Not that I’m willing you an early demise - you could live many more years and this is likely to be correct. The reason that it will take many, many years to re-join the EU are the hurdles to be allowed back in. There is zero chance that the UK would regain all the opt-outs, the exceptions, the re-imbursements that we had before we left. Selling the full in membership (euro currency, etc.) to the UK will be impossibly hard today, next year, the year after, etc.
However, it looks so very likely that integration to the point of being in the single market (the EEA - even with the charges that would take) might be possible. And yes, that would mean signing up to all the EU standards and regulations without much say in such things. But being out of the EU is hurting the UK badly on just about every front. This notion of “control of our destiny” is empty, without value, never true anyway. We are beholden to world wide rules, world events and powers greater than ours. That is surely so obvious right now.
Hi
Back on Thread.
The stupidity of Trump knows no limits.
He had a way out of this mess, an agreed ceasefire.
Iran had reopened the Straits to shipping which is vital to the economies of many Countries.
What does the idiot do?
He decides to continue to stop all shipping using Iranian Ports, threatening to continue bombing Iran into submission.
He has threatened to use military force to stop any mines being cleared.
Iran have responded by closing the Straits again.
Trump has caused havoc and misery to many ordinary people here in the UK and many other Countries.
He is forecast to cost the average family here in the UK £480 a year more.
I find this very, very wrong.
