Was I dreaming that Trump was sending 5,000 marines to take over the island responsible for 80% of Iran’s oil supplies?
And hasn’t Trump bombed the hell out of surrounding areas on the island and left the oil terminal intact?

I think it will take a super-brain to work out how to make Kharg Island worth having as:

I think you may have been dreaming. The 5,000 marines were additional troops being brought to the region, nothing about boots on the ground on the island. And Kharg island is the export port for Iran, not the source of Iran’s oil. The actual oil fields are elsewhere.
So how will the US sell Iranian oil to China again?
The waters around the island are the only water has for oil tankers, hence the island is the main distribution point. The USA .,sorry somebody at the door.

no you weren’t dreaming that there is a big publicity exercise saying that these marines are being sent, but you may have also heard reports that he would be very unwise to deploy boots on the ground and that they absolutely do not want to do that because of the reaction to any US casualties back in the US. So do you think they are going to drop these marines onto Kharg Island - let’s wait and see if they really want to do that.
The rest is academic unless the US manage to 100% secure the supply and make transit routes 100% safe.

It would not make sense to have countries to escort the oil tankers through the straights. Very simple if it not an American flagged ship, the US doesn’t escort them. Simple fix.

No, what he is saying, you want oil, escort your ships. Very simple. But you can hear anything you want but it’s doesn’t make it factual.
whats really annoying is the adoption of what seems to be a US pronunciation of the word Iranian being I-rah-nian now on many British news networks, vs the British normal way of saying I-ray-nian. As I understand it, saying the I as “eye” is incorrect, but the middle bit rah vs ray is just an over the pond issue perhaps.

A very contentious thread.
An annoying fact, the USA is not at war with Iran.
To be at war means that Congress must have voted for it, it hasn’t, Trump as used an executive order.
He is not telling the Truth, Iran does not pose an immediate Atomic Threat to the USA.
It is only recently that Trump stated that Iran’s capability to build a Nuclear Weapon had been totally destroyed by his previous bombing attacks.
There is also the fact that Iran has no missiles capable of hitting the USA.
Trump publicly stated during his election campaign that there would be no USA boots on the ground during his Presidency, now he has 5000 troops on the way to the Gulf.
He condemned the UK for refusing to join Israel and the USA in attacks on Iran.
He then said he didn’t want anyone joining a war he ha already won, now he is asking the UK and others to join in Militarily.
He then said he had destroyed all military targets on Kharg Island but was considering carrying on bombing the island, in his words, “For Fun”.
He has destroyed the Iranian Military, so he says, and is now targeting Infrastructure.
Iran has responded by targeting Infrastructure in those Gulf Countries which have American Bases.
Iran has shut the Straits of Hormuz to all shipping except those coming from or going to Iranian Ports or which are Chinese Registered.
The entire thing is a complete mess, causing chaos in the World Economy.
As for the USA making vast amounts of money from the increase in oil prices, fuel prices in the USA are going up at the pumps.
Here in Shropshire, a third of all houses do not have gas, they rely on oil for heating and hot water ,oil which has increased in price by more than 50%.
To respond to OGF,China are not happy at all, they buy cheap Iranian OIl and don’t pay in $, they pay in Chinese Currency.
They could well increase their support for Iran.
All in all a complete, unnecessary mess.
The UK is not immune to being affected by this, especially now idiot Starmer is now allowing the USA to use our bases.

Others have already explained that the USA has reduced the island to rubble and left the important oil workings, for now. Hence losing 90% of their oil distribution is a major blow to Iran. Yes the marines are on their way to make sure it stays that way, further ships and the ruddy big one used for such actions.
Yes Trumph has asked other countries to send ships, not that he needs them, but to illustrate combined unity, a further message and blow to the murderous regime from hell, who have had cells in the UK for years and need eradicating before they eradicate us.

the analysts are saying the only country to do well out of all this is Israel. While that is politically important to the US, I’m not sure how important it is to Britain.
According to the experts we do not have a serviceable fleet of warships, the Dragon’s sister ship apparently cannot be deployed as cannot go into warm waters for whatever reason. Maintenance is needed to the Royal Navy which has been neglected for decades. Good to know I guess, but not sure how that leaves Mr T’s reaching out to his “allies”
An expert on the subject said this morning that it was almost certain that Iran still has the enriched uranium, and it was not destroyed, hence has the potential to make a nuclear device in the near future. Also, the potential to deliver such weapons in the near future.
So I find it unbelievable that pacifists want to endorse and look forward to the prospect for their grand children.

A couple of things that need clarifying…
(1) You don’t suppose that the world is running out of oil? And would they tell us if it was?
It would certainly provoke the kind of action that Trump seems to be taking…
(2) The western media (with prompting from a collection of wealthy and powerful people who meet on Davos each year) appear to be trying to turn the public against Trump.
The media itself does play a large part of the running of most countries by swaying public opinion. They decide who you should support or hate…From a distance of course.
(3) We tend to discuss world events without actually knowing what’s really going on…I’m sure the media would be honest enough to report the true story…That’s if they know it.

OGF with all due respect Mr T is performing directly for the world to view without any media bias and filters. Nobody needs the media to tell us what he says, thinks and feels. He tells us himself, his press office broadcast directly to the global audience. That is what people base their opinions.
People don’t need to be told what to think of the horse when they have the news delivered right from the horse’s mouth.
