The Toms are in

Thanks so much for that! Will let you know how it goes; would never have thought about the mold being beneficial; would have assumed the batch had gone bad and chucked it out!

Almost ready to put out - now they have grown!

Looking good-:-).

I had to plant the first two Marmandes out this morning as they were badly outgrowing their pots and starting flower buds. I usually wait till the first week in May, but needs must… will put the smaller tomato, peppers and basil out then. Potatoes not up …

I’m getting all trussed up . . . . yeah, I’ve got several forming.

Steph’s a real magnet for the bees . . . the stink off her’s got big bumbles going crazy . . . I was working in the GH earlier and I though it was an air raid . . . they make some racket.

She’s in full bloom just now so I’ll take a pic tomorrow . . . the perfume’s divine.

While you’re taking the pics tomorrow do one of your new fountain too, please!

DAMN! The first blossom on my tomato fell off, not fertilized. When you only have three plants you notice things like that!

That’s one less tomato for your pesky squirrel, Eileen

Hope you’re not suffering froma bee shortage Eileen

I’m putting my outdoor tomatoes out tomorrow - hope they’ll be Ok. The ones I’ve grown from seeds from the Tomato Festival are doing great - I’ll keep you up to speed with them . Noir de Crimee and Peche Blanche, en francais - we tasted the Crimee (sweet and large, like a Marmande) but the Peche will be a new experience

LOL, that’s a glass half full way to look at it, Mags!
ow I hate those pesky vermin!

My toms, cucumbers and sweetcorn are now planted up outside in 2 mini raised beds. We used a tall old bookcase, took the back off and all but one shelf out and just layed it down and filled it with compost. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t last for years it was being thrown out anyway. I think one of the toms is just about to flower. I forgot to plant some mariglods though, I notice the ants didn’t take long to find it and where there’s ants, the aphids follow, or vice versa.

I noticed quite a lot of aphids on the rose buds this year!

What a clever use for the old bookcase.

Every thing’s shooting up since the weather got warmer . . . I have quite a lot of toms on one of the tumbling tom plants in a hanging basket . . . they’re about the size of a 10 pence piece at the moment but they’re still green . . . during the hot spell last weekend they all gobbled up water furiously . . . I pollinated a couple of courgettes on Sunday . . . two hours after the pollen transfer the female flowers closed up . . . last night I had to turn on the heater again . . the temp dropped to +5 which is too cool for the plants.

I do have a tomato on Marmande: about the size of a dressmaker pin head, but the first tomato! Potatoes are growing like weeds, also basil and hot peppers: buds coming on the latter.

With all the tomato growing members on here we’ll have to have a tomato photo competition! ;-)

I second that, great idea!

With all the tomato growing members on here .

Bold-she is you know. Sorry a bit more of my Julian and Sandy mentality

Jules-do you prick out the side shoots?

Sandy-oh you are bold I never prick out in public

Well Sandy it does depend-sometimes I have to stop it getting any bigger, and sometimes I just have a bush.

That`s got you all confused??

Is it a loony or just some git who remembers a funny radio programme and has adapted the style to playing silly sod with a hint of tomato wisdom?
