It wasn’t damp. I spent my life painting over the stains, which kept reappearing but with different Welsh words and images. The original part of the house was 1610, but it had several extensions over the years.
Tara, am I imagining things… when I click to enlarge your photo I can see faded writing on the wall  Can you also see that?
Is there? Oh, I love a mystery.
I’m off out but’ll have a quick gander when I get back.
Yes there is.
Here are some more.
Spooky!
You think so?
Mystery solved I think.
Afal is apple in Welsh, and as most people would know Cariad means love.
We discovered those words on the wall when we got back from my father’s funeral in Guernsey in October 2005. He had been a horticulturalist, growing tomatoes and flowers. In Guernsey tomatoes had been called ‘love apples’.
Mrs Fox and me were smitten with Guernsey the first time we visited the island in May 2012. So smitten in fact we returned the same year in August. We now visit Guernsey every year for at least a fortnight…
I haven’t been back there since 2013, I doubt I will go back again.
Just think Tara, we may have passed in the street…
Thanks for the explanation Tara, I didn’t know what either of the words meant
It depends where you stayed?
The Blue Horizon Hotel in St Martins Tara…It’s a bit way out but close to the Coast Path and that’s the place I spend most of my time. The walk from St Martins Point past the Jerbourg Hotel to St Peter Port along the coast path is beautiful but strenuous. I must walk it several times during a visit to Guernsey.
That is indeed a beautiful walk !
If you say so, I use a car when going around the island.
Aw Tara, you’ve missed the best bits…
The Salmon sandwiches at the Jerbourg Hotel aren’t too shabby either Tabby…
Not from my point of view. I prefer the other side of the island where I was brought up.
Too many experiences to mention, mostly minor, but I’m a firm believer in the supernatural.
Just a few - pretty please:lol:
