The Royal Pantomine continues

The UK is far too big and complex to be run by a simple man…We tried that with some of our previous PM’s…And not only that, we owe so much money that lenders have the final decision on where our money goes. Very little to do with Hunt or Sunak.

So if we didn’t pay them anything you would be happy to have a royal family and Royal Head of State?

It’s not just about the cost bret, it goes far deeper than that. You can’t put a price on some things, I think we already established that. If it’s a money saving exercise, there are far better ways to achieve far greater savings than kicking the royal family into the long grass. It’s just a war between the have’s and the have not’s…

erhmm sorry OGF forgotten whos side ya on now??

The European royals seem to manage to survive without all this disgusting opulence.

No because I think they are mediocre .
They don’t do anything of interest or expertise that qualifies them for Head of state .

I thought they had open days these days when we can all go and see them??

It’s funny how things work out. If the government hadn’t reduced their power the British royals might have ended up like the French.

They go to Spain for the sun and beaches as well as their historic sites.
France has 5 million visitors to Versailles a year . Buckingham palace has half a million .
What does that tell you ?

Versailles is better than boring old Buck House … not a good example of tourist trap.

They are there by accident of birth or by marriage.
I have never understood why they are put on a pedestal, referred to as Your Majesty/ Royal Highness and bowed and curtsied to by their fellow humans…
It’s like a bizarre pantomime.

didn’t old Bill himself say something about the whole world is but a stage and we are all merely players for a while??

That Buckingham palace is open only 3 months a year. (they also limit visitor numbers during that period)

No body lives in the palace of Versailles Muddy, it’s just kept to show folk around and pay it’s way. Have you seen the price of the tickets?.. :open_mouth:
Buck palace on the other other hand is a working home to the King and his missus…
:classical_building:

Good question bret…
I loved the Queen as I think most people did. However, I’m not so keen on King Charles, we disagree on most things. I don’t know what power or influence he still possesses, but I know he’s a member of the World Economic Forum and is too global and green for my liking. I still love to see the royal family with all the pomp and circumstance, but the family could be trimmed down considerably. I don’t think I will be listening to the Kings Christmas speech anymore because I’m not convinced it comes from the heart…I don’t suppose it ever did.
They live in a different world to me, but there’s room for both of us.

In that case they should have it open 12 months of the year . It does after all belong to the country .

I’m sure the royal family would be fine with that, but it’s used for state banquets, functions all year round. They are constantly hosting visits, garden parties for the public etc. I’m not sure how many garden parties they have, but my SiL’s dad was invited once a year as a veteran. These are large events for members of the public. The Royal family are constantly busy with public engagements. I wouldn’t want that job.

Quite so and if there was no monarchy we could have Buck House open all year around as an attraction .

It’s not a home the king lives elsewhere and he can still work there . The public viewing parts of the palace and the office

They obviously do .
It’s money for old rope and with all the fawning and deference you could wish for .
They don’t need to do it there are heirs aplenty .
