Within minutes of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordering Israel to halt its assault on Rafah, Israel had bombed the city again.

The ICJ is the UN’s highest court and all member states are expected to comply with its rulings.

Its new orders add to the growing international pressure on Israel to scale back its invasion.

If Israel does not comply, questions will arise about whether arms transfers, primarily by the US and Germany, can be made to a state that is continuing to breach an ICJ order.

Israel is pushing further into Rafah despite the knowledge that seven months of bombardment and ground invasion, with their accompanying loss of life and widespread destruction, have not achieved the goals of rescuing hostages or destroying Hamas.

There has previously been overwhelming public support in Israel for continuing the invasion, although many Israelis want a hostage deal to be the priority.

And so it goes on…

  • On October 8, Israel closed the border crossings as Gallant declared, “No electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed”.
  • The crossings have intermittently reopened but aid has been restricted so heavily, famine has arrived in parts of Gaza and is imminent in others, according to multiple independent assessments.
  • Cross-border water pipelines have been cut. Power has been hindered. Facilities producing food – including all of Gaza’s wheat mills – and water plants have been bombed.
  • Additionally, Palestinians have been attacked while queuing for supplies. And aid agencies have limited their operations in Gaza because dozens of their workers were being killed every month.
“There are reasonable grounds to believe that Netanyahu and Gallant are responsible for the killing of civilians who died as a result of starvation, either because the suspects meant these deaths to happen or because they were aware that deaths would occur in the ordinary course of events as a result of their methods of warfare.”

The only difference between Biden and Trump ,I think, is that Trump wouldn’t know where Israel was on the map.

Israel’s military said on Sunday it had carried out a precise strike on a Hamas compound in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, but that it was reviewing the incident following reports that the strike caused a fire and civilians were harmed.

“The IDF is aware of reports indicating that as a result of the strike and fire that was ignited several civilians in the area were harmed. The incident is under review,” it said.

“Under review” or filed in the bin.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says a deadly air strike in the area of Rafah in southern Gaza that killed dozens of Palestinians was not intended to cause civilian casualties and will be investigated.
"Despite our utmost efforts not to harm innocent civilians, last night, there was a tragic mistake.

“We are investigating the incident and will reach conclusions, because this is our policy.”

I think most of us have reached our conclusions already.

Israeli strikes on a tent camp in an evacuation area west of Rafah have killed at least 21 people, Gaza health authorities said, with more than 60 others injured
The Israeli army denied it struck the area.

“Contrary to the reports … the IDF (Israel Defence Forces) did not strike in the Humanitarian Area in Al-Mawasi,” the military said in a statement.

Another incident to “investigate”???

While countries including Australia have declared they expect Israel to “comply with the international law”, this case shines a light on the ambiguity of laws that are meant to protect civilians.

And that’s what is at the heart of this issue — innocent Palestinian civilians, who didn’t want a war, who don’t want to die, and who want to be protected.

Israel says it’s doing all it can to protect civilians in Gaza, including in Rafah.*

But the death toll keeps rising.

  • they could stop bombing their homes and refugee camps.

But since Israel invaded Rafah on May 7, all civilian entry and exit routes have gone, even for urgent medical evacuations.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says the “abrupt halt” to evacuations is exacerbating bed shortages at the few remaining hospitals inside Gaza.

OCHA estimates at least 700 critically ill and injured patients have been unable to leave Gaza to get medical treatment abroad since the Rafah closure

“A lot of these were children … and only on Panadol — which would make absolutely no difference to the level of pain they were in.It was heartbreaking seeing them in agony.”
Dr Adusumilli said he saw hundreds of aid trucks at a standstill on the Egyptian side of border.

“It’s unfathomable to think that there’s children dying of starvation 2 kilometres away, with all this food that’s rotting just outside and we’re letting this happen,” he said.

Dr Wong said the children of Gaza needed “humanity to prevail, and for that to happen, we need a ceasefire, we need all of this to stop”.

"The first trauma is that they’re under bombardment and they’re being killed, and they’re seeing their family and loved ones killed.

“The second trauma is that nobody’s doing anything about it, that they now know that the whole world knows, and yet no-one is stopping it.”

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees, Unrwa, meanwhile said it had received “horrific reports” from Jabalia camp, where it provides services.

They included displaced people, including children, reportedly being killed and injured while sheltering in an Unrwa-run school that was besieged by Israeli tanks, according to a post on X, formerly Twitter. There were also reports of Unrwa offices being destroyed by air strikes and bulldozed by Israeli forces, it added.

Unrwa chief Philippe Lazzarini said thousands of people from the camp now had “no choice but to live amid the rubble and in destroyed Unrwa facilities”.

Biden says Netanyahu could be prolonging Gaza war for political aims

Israeli government spokesperson David Mencer, asked about the interview, said it was “outside the diplomatic norms of every right-thinking country” for Mr Biden to make such comments about Mr Netanyahu.

But later in the day at the White House, Mr Biden appeared to back away from the claim.

“I don’t think so, he’s trying to work out this serious problem he has,” Mr Biden told reporters when asked if Mr Netanyahu was “playing politics”.

So Israel has complete control of the USA now?
