The 2011/2012 Football Season - Fans Thread

In my haste to set down the glorious details of Englands International teams latest exploits I forgot to include any mention of the other teams we talk about.
Very remiss of me and I apologise most profusely.

I read that last week Cowdenbeath played Raith Rovers in the Fife Cup final.
Sadly for the Blue Brazil they lost 3-0.

No better news either for Lincoln City as the red imps went down 4-0 to Tamworth. To make matters worse they did have a player sent off for a second bookable offence.

Not good John, it looks like Mr Tilson may soon be getting the DCM. (Don’t Come Monday)

Lets all hope for better in our respective leagues.

P.S. Just got my online copy of The Claret & Blue magazine.
Listening to David Sullivan’s opinion on Allardyce made me shudder and fear for my clubs future, simply tragic.

Hammer, by all accounts Lincoln were as bad as it gets.As for Tilson and his no2. Paul Brush, they are still around the place as I speak. Talking of Brush, might as well get Basil Brush as manager, before he’s off to Panto. Thats also appropriate, as its been a Pantomime all season. I think I’ll start watching park football, can’t be any worse than the rubbish down at Sincil Bank.

Thanks Hammer for the update on Cowdenbeath, 3-0 is not bad, we can handle that. The 'Beath goes on.

Well if people really do think that Wayne Rooney is our best player then we may as well stop at home instead of going to Euro 2012.
I see that the “wise one” Fabio Capello has said that he will play a fringe team in the friendly match against Spain at Wembley, sounds about right! What does the man use for a brain?? A perfect chance to match our best side against the Spaniards and he turns tail, what a plonker!

Hope that next weekend we will all be perhaps singing the praises of our various favourites, Lincoln due for a win John? hope so and maybe Jemflux will be writing about a win too, not forgetting Hammer and of course myself, big match against Man Utd!

Blimey John, If I remember right Paul Brush came from the WHU Academy and played for us from the late seventies as a full back.
From what I remember he was a decent player but like so many find, a good player is not guaranteed to make a respectable manager or coach.
In the case of Harry Redknapp it was the other way round.
No, he was not a bad player but then again time dims the recollection.

Breaking news Hammer, Tilson & Brush have just been given the tintack. Talk is of Mick Harford & Steve Thompson(a former player), being in the frame. Doe’snt get any better than that does it? Anyway, the good news. Those two hams Cannon & Ball are in town getting ready for this year’s Panto.Position filled methinks! Might even give the dopey sods a couple of games!

Hi John, hopefully the news you were waiting for, let’s really hope that things start to move in an upward direction and the next pair don’t get the brush off.

More news this morning, I hear and read that the OPLC and the Government have announced that the Olympic Stadium deal with West Ham and Newham Council has collapsed.

On a personal level I hope our club never move in there but it strikes me a bit unfair. We win the bid fairly and expend a lot of dosh doing it only to find one of these so called superior, monied clubs like Spurs can lose appeal after appeal and yet still stop us.
There is something amiss here I think.

Well it seems that whoever does take charge at Sincil Bank will have a job and a half to do! Another home defeat last night leaves them right in the brown stuff, did you go Jim?
Hammer, you must be at least managing a bit of a smile after your favourites walloped Blackpool 4-0 and Cowdenbeath won again, beating Stirling Albion 2-0.
As for me, well Liverpool managed to draw with Man Utd 1-1 at Anfield with Steven Gerrard netting from a trademark free kick so I suppose it was better than losing.

Nice to see Stevie G back for the reds, with a goal to boot. Liverpool could have won it, but Man U are a hard nut to crack. Hammer, you must be in seventh heaven. Even old “Olly” was nearly speechless, which takes some doing! As for my lot, enough said. Inept on Friday night against Fleetwood, might have well have played Fleetwood Mac instead(the group, not the music!).They’re looking in the non leagues apparently for a new manager. Might even find Lord Lucan there!

Thank you Bob.b for that joyful news, I will hold my head up proudly when I walk into the pub tomorrow:-D

He is a disgrace and if Vera and I were in charge he would be on his way back to Everton. Grow up lad good job your son doesnt understand the game yet Rooney, he would be apalled… oh I dont know though.

He’s just another big baby who cannot handle the limelight Annie, reminds me in some ways of Paul Gascoine and the likes, they never do grow up, preferring to live in Cloud Cuckoo Land, sad people.

Yes, very pleased to see a good win at last and at home. It has been a long time coming. In all honesty and being forever the pessimist I expected Blackpool to be very organised and proficient but they were quite poor.
The style they have of pushing their full backs on all the time was their undoing and the two centre backs were stranded and unable to cope with our twin strike force of John Carew and Sam Baldock.

In truth from the chances we got it should have been eight but we will settle for the four.

What price now for 4-4-2 Sam?

Next game, top of the table clash @ Southampton Tuesday. That will be a different tale I think.

Very sad to see that the Liverpool ManU game has been marred by Patrice Evra apparently accusing Luis Suarez of racism.
We will of course have to wait and see what the referee has reported but it is very unsavoury.
Dear old Clyde Best who played for us years ago had to suffer huge amounts of vile racist taunts from so called supporters from other clubs.
Perhaps the worst kind was from other equally so called professional players, some of which were houshold names.
I would have thought after all these years it would have been eradicated by now but sadly it seems not.

Maybe you will be pleasantly surprised George, remember West Ham have had some decent away results so far and have only lost the same amount of matches as the Saints, lying just 2points behind them in second place, not to be sniffed at really, all in all tomorrow night’s meeting at St Marys could turn out to be a feisty affair, the pairing of Carew and Baldock is looking lively, good luck anyway!
No news on any appointments at Sincil Bank John ? Don’t think Capello will be tempted! LOL. Hope they get it all solved soon, not a nice atmosphere at all I would guess.
It is so sad to see that the ugly side of football in the shape of racist accusations has once more raised it’s ugly head, we could all do without it.
Finally, Jemflux I hope you at least got a free drink at your local hostelry, sharing top spot with Arbroath today, well done.

Is the latest blot on the british ‘sporting’ landscape a case of mouth open before the brain engaged or symptomatic of the depths we have sunk to?

The whole rugby world with perhaps the notable exception of the French was sympathetic to the Welsh rugby teams cause over not just losing their semi-final but the way they lost it.

This benevolent feeling will I suspect have come to an end over the comments made today by the Welsh Team coach Warren Gatland.

His public admission that during the match he considered asking a prop to fake an injury, which would have led to uncontested scrums, beggars belief.
To compound that piece of stupidity the WRFU chief executive Roger Lewis comes out and praises Gatland for his ‘honesty’

I know all to often I dwell in the past and my varifocals are a delicate shade of Rose but I cannot ever remember this situation arising before. I wonder what old Henry Newbolt would have thought.

There’s a breathless hush in the close to-night
Ten to make and the match to win

A bumping pitch and a blinding light,

An hour to play, and the last man in.

And it’s not for the sake of a ribboned coat.

Or the selfish hope of a season’s fame,

But his captain’s hand on his shoulder smote

“Play up! Play up! And play the game!”

Hammer, you speak for all true fans of any sport, who just want to see fair play and sportsmanship, if its at all possible. This Gatland is a joke making them stupid comments. Sorry for Wales yes, but the rules were upheld, and that should be the end of it. Once upon a time, Rugby Union held its head up high, respecting the rules and the ref.Now just as bad as the rest, with cheating managers, players, directors etc. Makes you want to weep for Sport and society. God knows what horrors wait in store at next years olympics.

Exactly John.

I also felt disgusted to hear Gatland admitting to such thoughts and to come out publicly to say so is quite simply the pits and those that are defending his actions are just as bad as he is, if not worse. An unwanted big blot on Welsh Rugby Union and the sport as a whole.
Moving on to last night, bad luck Hammer, apparently your favourites put up a great show in a very difficult match, not many teams will grab any points when visiting Southampton, that’s for sure.
Lincoln managed a draw against Mansfield, don’t know if the fans are any happier though, what say you John?
I noticed that Steve Cotterill started life as manager of Nottingham Forest with his team beating Middlesborough 2-0 down by the River Trent, is this the start of a climb up the league table I wonder?

I was thinking about Football yesterday and wondering if the people who play for Liverpool all came from Liverpool and Manu from Manchester etc wouldnt it be a lot better than all these foreigners with there fancy footwork and falling over ways, the supporters would be proud of the game and their town, or maybe it was like that once.

Bob, the way things are at the moment at Sincil Bank, I’ll settle for the draw. Thought this league would be a breeze, we’ll be lucky to stay in the sod. I’m off to see the new Bishop Of Lincoln, to pray for some salvation!
