Bob, thought it was a wind-up when I heard, as Gateshead are top of this league. Did’nt go to the game, as it was an evening kickoff. Tend to go to the home Saturday afternoon jobs. Should have went, as only 1500 turned up(lowest crowd for 10years). A reprieve for Tilson and the club, but a long way to go. By the way, the goal was quite a scruffy job, but as Fergie himself would say,“they ah count, didna they?”
Quite true John, it’s not the manner in which they are taken as long as they end up in the back of the net:-) Hopefully this may prove to be a turning point for the Imps and their season will be kick started.
My lot are still in the Carling cup thanks to a 1-0 win at Brighton, Craig Bellamy scoring the all important winner and hitting the woodwork, not bad on his return to the Reds.
With Bellamy, I always feel he’s one of them players, that you get 100% effort from him. Same with Joey Barton. The downside is of course they’re a right pair of monkeys in their behaviour on the field! Anyway Bob, good result against a useful team in Brighton.
A shame really John because they can both play a bit when they want to, in the case of Bellamy I think that he would work well in tandem with Suarez.
Good luck everybody with your favourites this weekend
Well the Imps managed to come back against Ebbsfleet and get a creditable draw apparently John, did you get to the match?
West Ham continued on their winning ways by pipping Peterborough 1-0 and Liverpool managed to squeeze past Wolves 2-1 whilst Cowdenbeath also won 2-1.
Not a bad day for the forum contributors I suppose
Yes Bob, as you say a fairly respectable weekend for us fans.
I watched the Stoke game on ESPN tonight and thought they deserved all the spoils, if Crouch had sorted himself out a bit quicker they would have done.
I spoke to a mate earlier on tonight and he went to our game.
He was not a happy bunny as he reckons it is the first time any visiting fans at the Boleyn have ever been heard chanting that we are a boring side.
With Allardyce as manager I guess that is the price we have to pay as much as it hurts.
Yes Bob,went to the game, Forest Green actually. They scored after two minutes, and I thought God!, here we go again! Got one back in the second half, but what a tedious game. Can’t see Lincoln getting out of this League for some time.Good results for the reds, and hammers. Don’t be too hard on Big Sam Hammer, you’re talking about someone who was considered once for the England job! Here endeth the lesson!
Hard not to have a pop at him John.
The style of football he plays is nothing more than ugly, it is hard to watch and even our basic ball skills have deserted us. A completed pass is looked on as a rarity these days.
We have - on paper at least - quality midfielders in abundance and yet we persist in the Allardyce direct route i.e. long ball to the lonely ‘fumble feet’ Cole who is looking more like a castaway on a tiny island than a striker.
The Peterborough game was a case in point, this should have been an easy ‘banker’ and with no disrespect to them, routine, especially remembering we were two divisions apart last term.
We will have to up our game to beat the tractor boys mid week, they will see this match as a way to kick start their season at our expense.
As for the England job and Allardyce, as patriotic as I am, by all means Sam go, go, go.
The Rugby was alright lads!
John said “Yes Bob,went to the game, Forest Green actually.”
My mistake John, must have been thinking of Mansfield lol.
Glad you are enjoying your rugby Annie, you take care.
I get the impression that big Sam is not on your Christmas card list then Hammer LOL
The weekends football saw Liverpool beat Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park.
For me - and I will admit to only seeing the short highlights courtesy of Lord Snooty Lineker and his chums on the BBC - the encounter was ruined by the inexplicable red card flourished by referee Martin Atkinson at the Toffees, Jack Rodwell.
I would have great difficulty in seeing the incident other than a fair tackle. It was certainly not worthy of a yellow and insanity for a red to be shown. From that point on the game was effectively over.
Mr Dalglish would appear to have enrolled in the Alex Ferguson charm school by the way he conducted himself at the post match offensive.
He may well not wish to suffer fools gladly, he clearly had an issue with the interviewer but he lost the advantage by being rude.
A brighter note for Lincoln City as two first half goals saw them safely past the bottom club Bath City. The win puts the red imps up to 19th spot in the table.
Elsewhere in this football fans thread, Cowdenbeath found Arbroath a tough nut to crack in the top of the table clash but the Blue Brazils ground out a credible 1-1 draw away from home.
As for us… We were just lucky that John Carew chose this match to score his first goal which saw us take a share of the spoils at Selhurst Park. He nodded in George McCartney’s cross with just ten minutes of normal time remaining. This got us a point which once again we were lucky to get.
Someone, somewhere must be concerned about us taking just five points from our last four games, it is not rocket science to see that this not the form required to challenge for promotion of any kind.
Beam me up Snotty:twisted:
Agree with you hammer on Kenny Dalglish, what a miserable bugger he’s getting to be of late.Never a red card as you say, and KD should have had the balls to say so. Poor old David Moyes, when will his luck turn? Be happy with that point Hammer, did’nt look likely as Palace are quite a useful side at home. Yes the Imps got all three on Saturday. Was at the game, pretty easy peasy, as Bath didnt offer that much. Its was helped by the fact that we old farts got in for six quid on the day, as Oct 1st is Lincolnshire Day.Need to have more of that to fill up them acres of empty seats, Premier League take note.
Glad you saw a win John, it is bad enough to have to pay out so much in the first place but to watch your team lose on top is purgatory.
Your point on the empty seats is a good one, is it my imagination or are a lot of even Prem clubs short of spectators?
Every time I see a match on the box these days apart from one or two notable exceptions there seems to be banks of empty seats.
I too felt sorry for Moyes there does not seem to be a solution to their problems at the moment. Bill Kenwright gets more dejected as time goes on and his partner Jenny Seagrove don’t look none to chipper either.
Gloomy days at Goodison at present but at least that ridiculous red card has been rescinded so young Jack Rodwell can continue playing and justice has been seen to be done except unfortunately the sending off spoilt what was promising to be a humdinger of a local derby game, as for Kenny Dalglish, well maybe even “legends” feel the pressure lol.
I also agree that football seems to be in serious decline attendance wise, even some of the Premiership gates were pretty pathetic at the weekend but is it really any surprise when admission prices zoom up at the start of each season along with players wages so no wonder that many smaller clubs operating in the lower reaches of the football pyramid are on the brink of folding, a sad state of affairs.
I see McClaren has left Forest already, sign of the times maybe? It gets to be just like a game of chess nowadays.
Finally, well done guys, we were all amongst the points weren’t we? Good luck.
A good little story to report on for a change.
The nice part being the outcome as it could tragically have been a lot different.
On Tuesday night one of our local clubs, Accrington Stanley was playing against Tranmere in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy competition.
During the match Tom Bender, a Stanley defender was accidentally given a righthander by his own goalkeeper. The poor lad was poleaxed and was unconscious for a considerable length of time. Because of the serious nature of the injury, the game was abandoned.
Thankfully the lad recovered in hospital and was released after getting the all-clear from the scans.
At the time of the collision Tranmere were leading 2-1.
I read in the local paper that John Coleman, the Accies manager has said he is going to offer Tranmere the chance to take a 1-0 nil lead in the rearranged match by way of an unchallenged goal at the kick off.
He is quoted as saying,
“We will speak to Tranmere and I have no problem about giving them a goal,”
“We will do whatever they feel is appropriate. To be honest they were miles better than us, so I’d have no objections about that".
“Tranmere were very much on top in the game, they were winning 2-1 and worthy of that lead, so they deserve a lot of credit for not complaining about it.”
What a refreshing change to hear such a response from a football manager. I cannot think of many others in the job today who would suggest such a course.
Well done John.
Hear Hear Hammer. Being ever so slightly cynical, would that have even been considered in our money mad Premier League? Mmmm… anyway good luck to all our teams this weekend, shame the weather’s gone really autumnal.
Well Annie is sad to say Ireland has lost today and will be coming home, but they did well.
Yes Annie, it is sad to see Ireland out and what may well be BOD’s last appearance at the World Cup as a player, he will be missed both as Captain and Outside Centre.
It was the measure of the man to accept defeat in such a gracious manner. England will be joining them on the home trip after their frailities were exposed by the French.
Once again we saw needless penalties being gifted to the opposition and basic errors being made all over the park.
The Les Bleus were perhaps sandbagging in their pool matches as they did look dire for most of the time.Today they were a side transformed and they exacted their revenge on us.
As much as it hurts to say it, they deserved to win .
A lovely story regarding Accrington Stanley Hammer, if only such sporting gestures were the norm instead of the exception.
Afraid I can’t get enthusiastic about Rugby Annie, never ever took to it but can guess how disappointed you were, never mind, it’s only a game eh?
Well, there we have it, England qualified for Euro 2012 but the 2-2 draw highlighted once more just how much work we have to do before the finals.
At 2-0 we should have closed the game out and Montenegro who rank 18 places below us should have got nothing from the game. Lack of concentration and one piece of predictable stupidity saw a different end to the game.
Mr Capello has now to think of what next to do to make some sort of gesture from an England team next Summer.
It is hard to see how we can possibly improve in every department in time to even compete alongside Spain, Holland, Germany and Italy.
We are woefully short of even the basics, our technique has stalled, ball retention and subsequent distribution is worse now than it ever was. We defend with a naivety of schoolkids but most of all there is no steel or pride in the side.
However, amongst all the dross, It was somewhat satisfying for me to see that the best player on the pitch was our old stalwart Scott Parker. This is the same player that Postman Pat denied the only realistic chance he had of ever playing in a World Cup. Priceless.
I also read that our coach is keeping faith with Rooney, what a brilliant state of play when our alleged best player seems to either get injured or gets banned for one reason or another.
