The 2011/2012 Football Season - Fans Thread

This weekends football fixtures see Lincoln City travelling to Cambridge United for tonights game. Caretaker Manager Grant Brown has a few selection problems but is hopeful for a decent outcome for the imps.

Cowdenbeath entertain Forfar on Saturday so lets hope a victory proves to be For rather than Far away.

Liverpool are at home to Prem newcomers Norwich on Saturday which is live on ESPN and should be worth a watch albeit with the sound down as the TV commentators are awful.
Any truth in the rumour that Delia Smith has made the pies for the home team has been emphatically denied.

The Hammers are on our travels again and for the second consecutive trip it is to the south coast to face 10th placed Brighton and Hove Albion.
Monday nights game will be the third in ten days and we could do with a bit of a pick me up after the Southampton game.

May the great referee shine his countenance upon all our teams in all that they strive so hard to do, good luck to all.

Seems to get worse John! Obviously your prayers were not heard lol! Actually, looking at the Blue Square Premier table it is amazing just how many ex football league teams are in residence, a very high proportion indeed so the competition to get back into the league is a lot stiffer nowadays, hope that things turn for the better soon for Lincoln City.
Good luck to your favourites down at Brighton Hammer, a good win would be just the tonic, as for Liverpool, well after the first 20 minutes playing some very good football they seemed to run out of ideas and let Norwich mug 2 points out of them but fair play to the Canaries, they didn’t come to defend and Delia looked very pleased at the final whistle, I am still undecided about Andy Carroll, he just isn’t doing it for me up till now but I suppose a bit of patience is required.
Cowdenbeath still enjoying success, looking like genuine promotion candidates.

Well I wanted my team to win today. Fed up of the other team supporters taking the p-ss. How great it was to Win. But the final score was FANTASTIC. 6-1 to Man City.

:lol::lol::023::041:

Fantastic result for City against United, look out for loads of flying teacups from Fergie! I could never understand how Carroll was valued at ÂŁ35, just seems to be just another big lummox up front. As for Lincoln City, another kicking from an ex League team. As you say Bob, this Blue Square is littered with names from the past.Good luck tonight Hammer against Brighton, should be a close one.

Yes indeed the 6-1 mauling by City on that team also from Manchester who play in red, was a bright spot in an otherwise awfully dark day for sport.
I recorded the goals just to watch them again and again, Fergie’s face was a picture.

On a rather distubing note, for me and my club at least - I have to be careful of my language here - there has been a lot of talk in the press about Allardyce renewing his aquaintance with the scum known as El Hadji Douf, and indeed it is well reported that the low life has been seen at our Chadwell Heath Training ground.

When Allardyce first got the job it was thought to be only a matter of time before he signed Douf. Thankfully those fears seemed to dissipate and we all breathed a sigh of relief. Sadly it seems we fans may have been slapped in the face or spat at maybe more pertinent.

It is true that like so many seasons before, we have a mounting injury crisis but to consider taking this vermin albeit on a short term basis beggars belief.

This utter disgrace for a human being became a hate figure for West Ham fans after he spat at them and also verbally abused one of our ball boys when he was a Liverpool player.

Our club has beeen trying to foster the family appeal and the ‘kids for a quid’ project was in place to build a young fan base. I ask you, what decent parent would want to let their kids watch Diouf as an example of sportsmanship?

I am as passionate as any fan for my club’s success and have been for well over 60 years but now and again I accept that there are things more vital than winning football matches and thereby promotion.

Common decency, basic good manners and sportsmanship are far more important. Our club has in the past taken on a few ‘bad boys’ to achieve and end - of sorts - but this, if it happens is I think a step too far.

I can only hope that the messages we are sending to our board of Directors stop this farrago in its tracks or risk losing many loyal fans forever.

I agree wholeheartly with you Hammer regarding Diouf. Mind you it seems no one is beyond redemption with some idiot people. Gordon Taylor I would imagine being well upset if this Pariah was ostracized. Its little surpise that Allardyce is a fan of his, had him twice(Blackburn & Bolton), and would never condemn him whatever The Spitting Cobra did.

John said
"I could never understand how Carroll was valued at £35. "

Oh I don’t know John, that could just about be right! LOL. Seriously, the guy does worry me, he doesn’t seem to be Liverpool orientated at all and seems to miss some easy looking opportunities up front.
West Ham are at present winning 1-0 at Brighton, courtesy of a Nolan goal, hope their good form continues throughout the game.
As for the Manchester derby, are we witnessing the start of a serious shift of power in the North West? Very interesting.
El Hadj Douf? No comment, don’t want barring from the forum!

Congrats to Hammer, Nolan got the only goal, puts you guys in second I believe.Bob, sorry about the price tag! Hope it works out for Carroll, but the jury is out as they say. We Imps have a new manager, David Holdsworth, who was at Mansfield, also in the Blue Square, so he should be used to this league. Just as well he’s been appointed, as Sven’s just got the heave ho from Leicester. If Sven had come here to Lincoln, we would have had to put chastity belts on all females under fifty!

It was the final result Bob and puts us back to second spot in the table but I think we were a bit fortunate. I was going to say that the RSPCA were called out in Brighton tonight.

Apparently 11 Seagulls were found battered by Hammers but on second thoughts I should not.

A little surprised at Gus Poyets reaction but there it is.

Leicester at home on Saturday. Just seen your post John, Sven has gone so anything could happen.

A new manager at the Imps, is that Dean Holdsworth’s brother by any chance?? good luck anyway, I hope he can turn it around for you.

Well done to the Hammers, if they can win those sort of difficult games then things are really looking up, as for Gus Poyet, well just put it down to sour grapes or things said in “the heat of the moment”, bless him!
I really hope that a new man at the helm will eventually change the fortunes for the Imps John, most important for him to get the dressing room behind him rather sharpish, hope he is a decent man manager and motivator, only time will tell but good luck to him.
Carling Cup ties tonight with Aldershot entertaining a shell shocked Man Utd, a hiding to nothing I would say as United will be like the proverbial wounded animal.
It’s also highly likely that the Arsenal v Bolton game will be a feisty affair.

This weekend’s football for our dedicated fans is interesting in many respects.

Lincoln City have a quick hop over to Alfreton for the Fourth Qualifying Round of The FA Cup. I think this will be the first match for the Imps under David Holdsworth’s control so we wish everyone well in that fixture.

Cowdenbeath travel to lowly placed Brechin City which really should present no problem to table toppers Blue Brazil but there is many a slip as they say.

Liverpool have a trip to West Brom for the Saturday evening game. The Reds will be looking to get back on track after a couple of draws recently whilst the former manager Roy Hodgson will be trying to repeat last season’s 2-1 win. However, I think the Reds will have too much in stock for the Baggies.

We are at home for the tie against Leicester and I think they are a whole lot better than their 14th league postion indicates even without Sven. We have a mounting injury list so everyone needs to be up for this one.

One sigh of relief and it comes from the London Evening Standard. Mr Allardyce writes that he will now not be signing El Hadji Diouf.

He says,
“Obviously I had to bear in mind the situation at the club with the fans. It was sensible to take everything into consideration and the most important thing is we are going pretty well at the moment and there shouldn’t be any distractions”

“The sensible thing to do always is to consider all the possible consequences and then make the decision”

“He’s a good player and he did well for me at Bolton but I’m aware of the issue with the fans here at West Ham”

“There’s always been so-called ‘bad boys’ in football - Eric Cantona is just one that springs to mind - but it’s not for me to criticise any West Ham supporter for having a stance on this. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect that”

Hopefully that will be that but it is indeed a funny old game.

Hammer, Lincoln beat Alfreton quite recently in one of their rare wins of late. By the way, David Holdsworth is the twin brother of Dean, manager of Aldershot. Could do with the both of them! However,David is only on a contract till the end of the season, so he needs to do the bizzo.Great news about Diouf, just wonder where the toerag will fetch up next.Good luck at Leicester, and likewise to all our teams this weekend.

I must admit that I was very surprised at the easy way that Liverpool dealt with West Brom at the Hawthorns, I expected a lot more from the baggies, especially playing at home and, of course, being managed by Roy Hodgson which should have put a bit of an edge to the game, far too easy by far but it was another 3 points in the bag.
West Ham continued their good run with a 3-2 victory over Leicester and Sam Baldock weighed in with a brace, looking good still for the Hammers and even better that El Hadj Diouf is now off the radar (hopefully).
Jim, did I see Cowdenbeath had lost to Brechin? hope it is just an jnfortunate blip and they get back on course asap.
Lincoln have got to do it in a replay after drawing at Alfreton 1-1 in the FA Cup, reports are suggesting that the Imps could be without a recognised goakkeeper for the replay.
I have just heard that Diouf has signed for Doncaster Rovers! Eeh bah gum.

Brechin City gained their first league win in nine weeks after a deserved 1-0 victory against league leaders Cowdenbeath at Glebe Park.
The win propelled them up to 6th place in the table.

Lincoln City will entertain Alfreton on Tuesday night at Sincil Bank for the FA cup fourth qualifying round replay. In the match on Saturday the Imps seemed to have things under control and went ahead in the 10th minute. A bit of a contretemps near the end of the first half saw the away teams keeper dismissed for an early bath. The resultant penalty saw the home side draw level.
The 10 men Imps battled gamely and were worthy of the replay.
The winners will have a home tie in the 1st round proper against the League 1 side Carlisle United. Lets hope it is Lincoln city who get to enjoy a good cup run.

Liverpool enjoyed an easy 2-0 victory at West Brom on Saturday evening.
Andy Carroll sealing the match after Charlie Adam put the reds in front from the spot.

For the second week ESPN showed the match live and whilst not a riveting watch KD’s men did the job they set out to, a bit lacklustre baggies I thought

As for the Hammers, we turned in a great performance but it was heart stopping action at times and not always in our favour.

We did let Leicester back into the game during the second half but they certainly had their collective second wind. We looked to have had it sewn up with the third goal but they came back with a brilliant second.

For me, Mark Noble was the Man of the match as he dominated after taking total control of the game in midfield.

Onward and upward.

Sorry Bob, postings must have crossed.

No problem George!

Well , we got a reprieve after the goalie was sent off, who by the way has got a three match ban. There is a couple of reserve guys, but they lack experience.I’d like to go to the game, but the last bus goes at six! Taking the car is a nightmare, so just have to hope for the right result. Well done the Hammers, and the Reds. A bit concerned that Saurez is getting a name as a diver, surely he’s good enough, not to go down that road. I read that Doncaster are going to be a halfway house for fly by night transfers, ie. the likes of Diouf etc. being played temporarliy while on view to various clubs. Its all the doing of that dodgy agent Willie Mckay. That farago certainly needs sorting out.

Thank you Bob and Hammer for your informative reports.
Defeat is a word we are well used to and it only serves to drive us on to victory, we cherish our wins and accept our defeats gracefully
The 'Beath goes on!

You are welcome Jimmy, you are still sitting nicely at the top of the table, it looks like being a good season.

I hope our die-hard fans will not mind me continuing with our football thread here, lets face it it is one of the few places I get a response but maybe that is understandable.

However, starting with Cowdenbeath, they have a quick sprint over to the New Bayview stadium for their encounter with East Fife.
The Blue Brazil will be looking to reverse the trend of the matches between these two clubs. Out of the last 51 matches The Fifers have won 24 compared to The Brazil’s 14 victories although records seem to suggest that the last meeting ended in a 2-2 draw.
I think the away side will be looking to make amends for last weeks defeat.

Lincoln City welcome Barrow at The Sincil Bank Stadium tomorrow but will be without Midfielder Alan Power who is suspended under the totting up rules following his booking against Alfreton midweek.

Manager David Holdsworth, who will looking to put the Imps cup defeat out of his mind will be a little happier now that he has secured the services on loan of the Gateshead keeper Paul Farman and the Cambridge United winger Conal Platt. Perhaps more important will be the signing of the experienced centre back Richard Hinds, at least until the end of the season.
Let us hope that Mr Holdsworth can get his long winning streak off to a cracking start without too many fireworks.

Liverpool entertain newly promoted Swansea City at Anfield with the Reds looking to extend their seven game unbeaten run in all competitions. It is the first meeting between the two teams since January 1990 when Liverpool ran out comprehensive 8-0 winners in an FA Cup third round replay at Anfield.

It will be interesting to see the KD’s team selection as I suspect Dirk Kuyt seems to have been given the role of valuable first place squad member as opposed to absolute starter.
I look on this as a home win as the Swans don’t seem to travel too well given their dismal one point from five away games this term.

Life for the less than happy Hammers would not seem to get any better with a trip to the KC stadium for another encounter with the Hull tigers.

It gives me no joy to recall that we have not won a game at Hull for the last six visits, indeed the last time we got a result against them over there was back in 1954 in the old Division two league. The match was at Boothferry park and we won 1-0. The scorer?..John Bond, remember him??

It’s about time we got a win there.

It’s nice to see you guys exchanging your thoughts and reviews in a gentlemanly manner
I wish all football supporters could do the same!

What I like about this thread is the fact that there is no rivalry between you, just support, hence no bad feelings.

Keep it up lads!
