The 2011/2012 Football Season - Fans Thread

No need to apologise Bob, just grateful for any contribution and information.
I had heard about Rafa going to Chelsea but thought it unlikely, RDM to England however is a new one on me but it could make sense with perhaps ‘H’ and Pearce job sharing.

Roberto was a talented midfielder and subsequently has become a good coach. I thought he got treated very badly by West Brom and deserved better. In all honesty he is a lot like his countryman Gianfranco Zola, far too nice to be in football management.

Hammer, you, Bob and myself seem to be on some rollercoaster, win one, lose one, scramble a late result, its all very bad for the nerves and digestion, especially when sinking a few pints! Glad when its all settled. Did’nt know about the Benitez saga, but not surprised, as he’s been sitting like a vulture, waiting for some poor manager to come unstuck.People like RDM and AVB never stand a chance in these cynical times.

Good to see you back John.
Your lads must have had their best result on Monday with a thumping 5-0 home win against Darlington. The table looks a bit better for safety now.

The Reds just about overcame Blackburn 2-3 at Ewood with KD making a few tactical changes. It looks set for Brad Jones, the third string goalkeeper to face Everton in the semi. I hope it goes well with the lad, he has been through a bad time but lets hope the corner has turned with a new baby boy and the prospect of the Toffees being a bit soft centered.

Our chances of automatic promotion all but vanished after Reading snatched a 1-0 win at Brighton. The win put them six points clear of the Hammers and level on points with Southampton.
We all have four games left which boils down to Reading or the Saints only having to avoid defeat in two of their remaining four games for us to only have the lottery of the play-offs to get back up at the first time of asking.

Perhaps a step too far but it’s a funny old game and Mistress Boleyn has not done us any favours at the castle recently. Get your head on straight Anne and step up to the plate, oh I forgot you did that already .

Onward

Dead right John, it’s like being on the big dipper at Blackpool and talking of heads Hammer, mine is still spinning as this enigmatic season enters it’s final lap, what a bizarre goalkeeping situation for Liverpool and I do wish Brad Jones the very best of luck as he prepares to face the toffees of Everton at Wembley, I just hope that the game is bereft of controversy but it is a merseyside derby so fingers crossed.
I fancy that West Ham will do themselves proud in the play offs Hammer and I wish you all the luck in the world, would be nice to see them back in the Premiership.
John, your favourites should avoid the danger zone so hopefully a better push when next season arrives and Jim if you are still with us, good luck too as Cowdenbeath look to secure promotion despite a rare defeat recently.
I read with great interest about the possibility that the Spanish waiter could be in line for a stint at Chelsea, Torres will be pleased LOL but the England job still seems to be full of iffs and buts. Has Pardew appeared on the short list yet I wonder.
Right that’s it, have a nice evening friends!

I thought the Rafa rumour would impress you Bob
As for Pards, another name that could enter the scene but I don’t think he has any desire to move from Newcastle just yet.
He has done an amazing job this season and I hope it continues as he has not exactly had the rub of the green with a few clubs and ours in particular.

I must admit that I have been pleasantly surprised at the influence that Pardew has had on the Toon, whatever he has done up there it has transformed the club as a whole, I have nothing but respect for a man that has conquered not only aggressive opposition to his initial appointment but has gone about his work with dignity and purpose!

This weekends fixtures for our fans starts tonight with
Fleetwood V Lincoln City Kick-off. 19:30. Good luck to Johns Imps.

Saturday sees the FA Cup Semi with Liverpool V Everton Kick-off 12:30. Could be a cracker Bob so all the best.

West Ham V Brighton. Kick-off 15:00. saying nothing but hoping tonights game between Southhampton and Reading give us some reason to get stuck in.

Stirling V Cowdenbeath. Kick-off 15:00. Hope the Blue Brazil crack it for you Jimmy.

Monday sees The Arsenal V Wigan Kick-off 20:00. Annie, let us hope that Arsene can motivate his Gooners and smile at least once more before the season end.

Good luck one and all and a miracle for us.

Onward.

Just a quickie here! Lincoln have taken the lead at Fleetwood, keep the old fingers crossed John lol. Hammer, keep the faith my friend the same as I will do tomorrow…cheers, off out now.

At the moment its 2-2, which our lot would gladly accept, as Fleetwood are top of the table, and odds on to go up to League Two. Scared to check the Southhampton result in case its not good news for Hammer! All will be revealed on both counts. Second them good wishes Bob for tomorrow, should be a good match.

So they did it again at Wembley, the reds of Liverpool overcame the blue half of the city in the FA cup semi final to triumpth 2-1 and now look forward to a final appearance in 3 weeks time against either Spurs or Chelsea who meet in the other Wembley semi final tomorrow evening.
Liverpool once more contrived to do it the hard way, coming back from 0-1 down to finally succeed but how Andy Carroll didn’t net himself a hat trick is amazing but at least he scored the winner after the superb Suarez levelled matters. Coincidentally both Everton’s opener and the leveller from the reds were down to awful defensive blunders but that’s football for you!
Down at the Boleyn, something stirred and West Ham decided that they could play in front of their own fans:) with a 6-0 thumping of Brighton whilst north of the border Cowdenbeath collected a 3-0 win to go marching on.
Last night Lincoln City managed to hang on to a 2-2 draw at Fleetwood Town, no mean feat that!
So it looks like it is going to the wire in the Champiomship and the race for automatic promotion to the premiership, good luck all.

Congratulations Bob, the Reds did the business after a bit of a shaky start. The second half was a far better performance. As you say, Mr Carroll should have had a field day and made it safe long before he did, I was impressed with Martin Skirtel though. Now go win the thing.

Good result for John holding the Cod men to a draw by netting twice or does that pun seem a little fishy. Congrats really must go to Fleetwood Town, one of our local sides, for reaching the Football League for the first time. Long may it last.

Well done also to The Blue Brazil for a convincing win, 'Stirling’work Jimmy.

As for us… I am still in a state of shock, now firmly convinced it was down to my prayer to the sainted Anne of Boleyn to shine her countenance upon us and behold it was ever thus.

Could we still?..no, no, no chance, is there?

One note of sadness, West Ham favourite and Swindon Town manager Paolo Di Canio has suffered another loss in as many months with the sad news his mother passed away on Friday. His father died earlier on in the season.

May I, through this thread pass on my condolences and deepest sympathy to Paolo and his family.
RIP

Blimey, six of the best for Hammer, hows that for the power of prayer! Ironically our great rivals Grimsby drew with Wrexham, so that gives Fleetwood promotion. Well done to Bob, Carroll redeems himself just a little for the Reds. Just off to catchup with the Chelsea game.

Well it is a red v blue Final after Chelsea demolished Spurs this evening.

Did feel a bit sorry for Spurs, I thought the referee made an absolute blunder in awarding the goal that never was.

I know we cannot predict ifs, but’s and maybe’s but that decision had an enormous effect on the team and yes they are professional and should have overcome it, they did not and paid dearly for it.
The result was a rout.

What price of ‘H’ taking up the England job sooner rather than later???

Bob, keep your lads wrapped up for the final as I want to see the Cup back at Anfield.

I watched the Chelsea - Spurs semi final and found it to be quite entertaining as a neutral, despite the controversial second goal awarded to the blues, I think the full time score of 5-1 wasn’t a fair reflection of the game but you can never discount that man Drogba, a real big game player and one who will have to be watched when the final arrives in 3 weeks time, I sincerely hope that Mr Dalglish does his homework correctly and realises that he does need the likes of Jose Enrique in his defence, how the hell he never got a game in the semi final is still beyond me but one can only live in hope!
It should be a decent cup final, even though Drogba always scores against the Reds we manage to do well against Chelsea as a rule so hopefully Hammer that cup will arrive back at Anfield.

An intriguing match tonight between Annies Arsenal and Wigan.
The Gunners will want to cement 3rd spot for next years european quests whilst Wigan are embarking on their customary late run to stay in the Prem. They seem to have been getting out of it for quite a few years now thanks largely the way Roberto Martinez marshalls his defensive line ups.

Sorry Annie, I hope Wigan make it, not for DW as he is an odious character but Martinez is a genuinely nice bloke and deserves a better fate.

For the life of me I can’t understand why the referees don’t have the facility to go up to a TV Monitor at the pitchside, to view an instant replay of a contentious decision, like the goal that never was on Saturday. How long would it take? Literally under a minute I would imagine. It would’nt slow the game up, because at the moment you get at least 5 minutes of argy bargy by players of one side or another over disputed calls.

Hope no-one is coming down from Liverpool to the FA Cup Final by train. They have just advised that due to the late ko of 5.15 and engineering works fans will not be able to get back to Liverpool that evening and will have to hang around til early morning to get a train back on Sunday. The FA could sort this by having an earlier ko but they are refusing to do so due to busy day in the league. Feel sorry for the fans who will have paid a lot out for their tickets and now they have a problem getting home after.

Yes Val, I think we can lay the blame for this mess squarely at the door of the old farts at the FA. I suspect their intransigence to move the kick-off back where it should be has something to do with the dosh and the Chelsea influence but that may be just cynicism. One thing is certain the attending fan is the last one to be studied.

I was talking to my old scouse mate after he returned from the Semi.
He told me that once again the atmosphere between the Reds and the Blues at Wembley was brilliant both inside and outside the stadium. Like him I could not help but notice the difference in the respect of the minutes silence.

One would expect the Liverpool fans to honour the moment as it should be but to see the Everton lads and lasses also paying 100% respect was a credit to the city of Liverpool.

What a marked difference the next day from the Chelsea contingent of morons.
I trust the FA made suitable notes but I doubt it.

Yes, once again the power of big money takes precedence over common sense so the psychological pressure comes to bear on Liverpool and their fans but we have been there before so will be more focussed as a result. Poor Chelsea, they have such a heavy programme to finish their season ! All together now…Ahhhhhhhhhh. -
As for the ‘minutes silence’ at the Chelsea- Spurs encounter, well it was to be expected!

Fixtures for our teams over the next few days.

Arsenal V Chelsea Sat 21 Apr 12:45

Lincoln City V Hayes Sat 21 Apr 15:00

Cowdenbeath V Forfar Sat 21 Apr 15:00

Liverpool V West Brom Sun 22 Apr 16:00

Leicester V West Ham Mon 23 Apr 19:45

Good luck to all whom we support, it is the taking part that counts. Not really, dish out a damn good thrashing to the opposition.
