The 2011/2012 Football Season - Fans Thread

I see they are talking about Cappello fgoing to Chelsea!!
I would not give him house room as I do not think he is any good at man management, he has his favourites in any team that he has managed.

It would probably please the odious John Terry to see him at the Bridge but I agree not many others would like to see their future prospects in his hands.

What has been seen of recent days is that Roberto Di Matteo has had a bit of a positive effect on the squad morale but I guess Abramovich will ignore his talents and continue his mind numbing tinkering with the management.

I hope postman pat speaks better Russian than he does English or it will be a funny old job interview.

The mind really does boggle at that prospect AB and Hammer lol. I have always been of the opinion that Capello always looks bemused and as for ā€˜smiling red Rom’ well talk about the chuckle brothers! Personally as far as Chelsea are concerned, I feel that De Matteo has done a very good job with the players but of course Abramovitch will have the last say, as usual. People like him don’t have managers, they employ puppets and over pay them.

Results so far,

QPR 2-1 Arsenal

West Ham 2-4 Reading

Lincoln City 4-0 Tamworth

Albion 1-0 Cowdenbeath

Newcastle V Liverpool play tomorrow.

Our chances of automatic promotion look doomed after we once again threw away three points with a catalogue of inexcusable errors.

We were all over them and yet conspired to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory with a string of mistakes.
Watching Blackpool dominate Southampton tonight and move into a play-off position gives me a feeling of doom as they would beat us hands down.

Another season in the Championship beckons.

Still we know all about that do we not?
Keep the faith

All is not lost Hammer, Reading are on fire at the moment, capable of beating any Championship side. I also watched the Blackpool game, the Saints just did’nt turn up for that one, probably missing Lambert too much. To my utter shame, I did’nt know the Lincoln score until you put in on here. Hang on, 4-0 ? Hammer’s having a laugh, its an April Fools joke! My apologies, three wins in a row, strewth! Terrible news about Petrov, he looked so fit and healthy, shows how cruel life can be at times. Wish him well.

John, I was really pleased to see the Imps result and just hope the corner has been turned for your lads.

As far as any April fool joke goes, I think that is a long running saga played on us every match day by the gruesome twosome, the Lernean Hydra and BFS.

I have to keep playing the Paolo ā€˜bubbles’ video I put up on here just to know we are not alone.

Yes indeed, thoughts are with ā€˜Stan’ Petrov, hope he gets his treatment underway soon and it is 100% succesful.
Good luck to the lad.

Ah yes, joy for John this weekend at least, well done the Imps and that says it all! I am not going to bang on about missed chances, rubbish defending etc etc but I was really surprised to say the least to see goalkeeper Reina get a red card for head butting James Perch, strewth, the Liverpool goalie is normally professionalism personified. So here we are with Liverpool lying in Eighth position under Everton and Newcastle, how times do change!
Your lads are still in with a chance Hammer, time for everyone to pull together and get behind each and every one of the players, they can still get out of the Championship, keep the faith!
Very sad news about Petrov, hope he pulls through. Good luck to him and his family.

Bob, it really does annoy me when a player only sticks his head near an opponents face, for the other guy to go down as if Tyson had landed him one. Felt sorry for Reina, as Perch did foul him, before he did his dying swan act, shame on the bugger.More interesting was Carroll’s bid to rival Tom Daley for an Olympic Diving medal! Not a happy homecoming for that lad.Wonder what the Americans are thinking about all this hoo haw?

It makes one so ashamed to be a football follower when such things occur John and I still think that coaching staff and managers need to admit the part they play in sending teams out to try and con referees and get opposing team members sent off, that isn’t football and these jokers should admit their parts in such a farce, win at all costs may be the order of the day but the quality of football certainly has suffered for a very long time now.
As for Liverpool, I was amazed at the way Andy Carroll spewed vitriol at manager Dalglish when he was substituted, who the hell do these overpaid failures think they are? I can foresee a parting of the ways at Anfield when this season draws to a close and it may be a surprising list of departures as well. It is blatantly obvious that all is not well at the club and the owners may step in with drastic measures of their own, big changes could be imminent and nothing would surprise me.
Going back to the match at Newcastle, what a contrast between Carroll and Cisse, a vast difference in what they cost as well. Liverpool, you wuz robbed!

A few of the fixtures in a busy weekend for fans.

Friday
Barnsley V West Ham 17:15. On TV so I will save a few bob and keep in the warm. That way if it gets bad I can always turn it off  As a diehard it is not likely though.

Saturday
Liverpool V Aston Villa. 15:00
Stockport V Lincoln City. 15:00
Cowdenbeath V Arbroath. 15:00

Sunday
Arsenal V Man City. 16:00

Good luck to all our teams

It will make a bit of a change for me this evening to sit back and watch a Championship match, Barnsley v West Ham could be interesting, apparently it is a very long time since the Tykes last beat the Hammers so you could see a win up their, not so much pressure for the visitors as when they are playing at home so it seems. Good luck to them anyway and to all our favourites over this Easter period.

Can’t see anything but an away win myself for the Hammers. Barnsley should be safe from relegation, but need to make sure. Don’t know about other people, but everytime I hear the word Barnsley, I go, ā€œEh up lads, there’s trouble at mill, and pies are bloody rubbish as per, lets give that bugger Hammer some welly!ā€

A very comfortable win and in reality it could have been by a much bigger margin.
Goals from Kevin Nolan, Nicky Maynard, Mark Noble and Ricardo Vaz Te, sealed a decent performance we were allowed so much room we even played a bit of decent football in spells.

We have now won a record 12 times away from the Boleyn this season. This beats the 11 away wins achieved in the 1922/23 and 1957/58 seasons and both of those records saw us promoted to the top divisions at season end.

We have now earned 41 points away from home this season and that is seven points more than we have at home.

A bit of home form would have seen us virtually home and dry by now but as always we have a mountain still to climb, more oxygen please as it is going to be a breathless finish.

Liverpool stopped the rot and ended a run of three defeats with a late equaliser and the game ended up 1-1. The reds applied a great deal of pressure in the second half and had at least two good shouts for a penalty turned down. Villa are a bit fortunate to go home with a point to help their premiership survival battle.

After some recent success Lincoln City, it is sad to report that they went down 4-0 to fellow strugglers Stockport. The Imps are looking perilously close to the drop zone.

Cowdenbeath lost 2-3 to Arbroath in a top of the table clash which saw the Blue Brazil playing threequarters of the game with ten men after Adamson was sent for an early bath following two bookings.

Following our demolition of Barnsley I was talking to a mate of mine whose eldest lad is a Leeds supporter. He has recently started going to matches on his own and the other day his dad gave him 2 quid for the bus home.

Instead of getting on the bus the kids runs behind it all the way home. Dad comes home from the pub and the kid says, ā€œdad I saved you 2 quid today because I ran behind the bus instead of getting onā€. The dad slaps the kid on the backside three times and sends him to bed without supper saying, you should have run behind a taxi and saved me 40 quid you little…

The final match of the weekend saw Arsenal outclass Manchester City and should have won by more than the odd goal.
They certainly should have been playing a depleted City side as brain dead Balotelli should have been given his marching orders early on.

I suspect that Mancini has been ordered to keep playing the nutcase but it surely cannot last, one of them has to go.
It should be Balotelli even though he is a very talented player the flaws are too great and he will hurt someone badly before he is done.

Nice to hear the buffoon Robbie Savage admit on MOTD2 that he often cheated when playing.
It should come as no surprise, his entire career was built on conning referees and cheating. Just the sort of pundit that the BBC have been reduced to.

Onward.

We failed to win for another (seventh) successive home game, the only saving grace was down to the second half.

Going in 1-3 down at half time after some pretty shocking clangers we were heading for a home defeat and the beckoning skeletal finger of the play-offs. It seemed we were heading for, as my old mate Billy Blagg would say yet another nightmare on Green Street.

The second half performance was something else, as good as anything seen at the Boleyn for many a year. The team and even the support was tremendous.
We came out 3-3 and kept alive our hopes for automatic promotion even if the flames that flickered so brightly at Barnsley have been reduced to a glimmer.

I can only wonder why we are only seeing such resolve now when it is almost too late and reflect on lost chances.

Onward.

I have been awol over the Easter period catching up on family commitments and visits so here goes… It was a wonderful second half atmosphere as you said Hammer, just as if all and sundry had decided to stop moaning and have a go, under the circumstances a very good end result.
As for Balotelli, well it is reported that he has actually apologised to his manager, wonder what deviousness is afoot? The guy should be sent for mental assessment, if he’s all right then I don’t want to be!
Hope you all had a nice Easter anyway.

Thanks Bob, good to see you back on, it was getting a bit lonely up here  but less controversial  I hope you enjoyed your Easter break.

I see the Reds are away at Ewood for tonights Blackburn game. I was hoping to get over there but it did not work out too well. It should be interesting to see what team KD puts out given the forthcoming FA Cup Semi.

The rumours surrounding one of my favourite Liverpool players, Mr Kuyt, leaving the club do not seem to go away.
I wish we could afford someone like him but given the pace he still has I think the rest of our lads would get dizzy by the blur.

Good luck for tonight anyway.

Rumor has it that a new unexpected face is in line for England managers job, as soon as I find out the name I will post it here.
I do think that Harry will take the job after Spurs run of form though.

Sorry Guys the gossip is about Benitiz going to Chelsea in place of Matteo and Matteo going to England as under 21’s coach.
