Speaker Hoyle loses it

Speaker of the House Sir Lindsay Hoyle has evicted two SNP MPs from the House in an angry exchange. Quite entertaining, actually.

Good for him. Ignorant buggers they are, all shouting over each other.

Huh! And we pay these people Ā£80,000 + expenses ā€¦

Disgraceful, playground behaviour. And these people expect us to take them seriously?

Poor Lindsay Hoyle - it looked like he had a cough or cold and had trouble raising his voice to shut the noisy rabble up.

The MPs who were ordered to leave the chamber werenā€™t from the SNP Party - they were from the ALBA Party -
Kenny MacAskill (East Lothian) and
Neale Hanvey (Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath)

ALBA party, well that explains it then. Its the only way they can get themselves noticed.

That unrestrained outburst makes playgrounds seem very tame in comparison and for grown adults they bring shame of their Alba party.
I can remember when Betty Boothroyd had Ian Paisley escorted from the house after a division/vote and suspended.

Iā€™ve recently changed my mind about Scotts Independednce and now I say letā€™em go; whatā€™s more I think England should also be allowed to vote on their independence ā€¦ theyā€™ll get my vote :point_right: Anything to stop that continual carping!

Passports to go into Scotland?

And we pay for them to represent us.

I agree.
These ā€˜Albaā€™ persons and the SNP collection have clearly been voted in by Scots, and presumably the majority as there seem to be more Scots nationalists in the Scottish parties in Parliament than other political parties.

Iā€™ve heard it mentioned, rightly or wrongly, that the only reason so many Scots nationalist MPs have been voted for, despite other reports that the majority of Scottish people do not want Scotland to leave the UK, is that the majority of Scottish voters havenā€™t been bothering to vote.

I say let the Fish Woman have her referendum and if the majority of votes are in favour of independence the motion should be carried.
I believe it would be to our (the rest of the UKā€™s) advantage.

Naturally, all assets presently belonging to the UK as a whole, including the naval bases and Trident submarine facilities, should be relocated to a suitable place in England.

Yes, I consider that a small price to pay just to shut up that continuous whining.
My paternal line traces back to Portobello and our Scottish family name changed to an English one after we arrived in London, but Iā€™d willingly break free any time the Scots wish.

Not by me. And SNP systematically got rid of Labour too, so they would be the majority.

Her name is Nicola Sturgeon.

 :joy:

If that sounds unfair, Pixie, consider this.
Who paid for the naval bases and Trident?

Scotland has a population about the same in number as Yorkshire, about 5.5 million.
The vast majority of taxes come from England and so, if Scotland splits off on its own, a proportion of our assets (5.5 million compared to 65-70 million) would go to Scotland.

What are they expecting? Half of everything? (Well, the Fish Woman probably is!)

I doubt very much itā€™s a conversation that will ever need to be had, JB, if Iā€™m honest. There are many more strings to Independence than the media say, and Nicola Sturgeon will not be the one to untangle them all.
Scotland, in fact, pay more in tax than the rest of the UK, and Holyrood are responsible for raising most of them. We just manage our money better than Downing street does.

What strikes me, is how those who thought getting out from under the thumb of the EU was a noble cause find it difficult to understand that Scotland might have a similar case for getting away from England.

Hi

The Scots have a right to govern themselves if that is what they want, it is their decision.

I can quite understand anyone not wanting to be ruled by the Eton Elite.

True - but I hasten to add, this isnā€™t a Scotland - v - England thing, with borders and battles and ā€œwe hate the englishā€ Itā€™s more about getting away from Westminster rule. :woman_shrugging:

I not only understand that, but as someone from the north of England, I can thoroughly identify with it.

Yorkshire independence, eh?
Yes, Iā€™d go for that.
And why not? Even little Wales has its own parliament.
Wales population = 3 million
Yorkshire population = 5.5 million

But letā€™s take a bit of time to catch our breath from Brexit before we plunge into that.
