Yes I made one and honest to say so. I just never aver it a thought.
What hapened was the new flashgun trigger came today so in"excitement" or haste I never gave it a thought.
When setting up something like this the camera- the flash transmitter and the remote flashguns have to “talk” to each other, or they won’t work.
This involves getting all on the same channel - the same “chat” number- being in Sinc with the wireless signal. and if necessary the same ID no code.
So with all this done I was ready for the first tryout and NOTHING. no “chat” no communication etc. “Bo**ocks” me thinks, sod it.
So had a coffee and helped Sue with the car window cleaning bit. This gave me time to think what I had done wrong.
Then the light Twitched on in my brain. the master control was on top of the camera so the flashguns have to be made as slaves . I reset the guns and yes they worked. What a pillock I am not thinking straight for a change
With two flashguns aren’t you supposed to make one the master and one the slave? But I guess it depends on your set-up and type of triggers. I’m sure you are doing it right.
Dood normally yes that is if you want one to be on the camera and the other flashgun as a remote. The one on the camera acts as a master and the remote as the slave
But what if you want both flashguns or more to be remote? here comes the tech bit.
If the camera has a built in flash then possible that will fire the 2 remote by line of sight (optically) only. The issue is if the guns may not be positioned exactly in line of sight
The other option is to fire them wirelessly. So now one resorts to getting a wireless triggger like this.
I can even still fit another flashgun on top of the master controller as it has a pass though electrcal allowance
Now the hotshoe on the camera top can send a signal via the contact pins to the trigger (master) which in turn send the wireless signal to the flash guns.
the advantage of option 2 is the camera can be behind a wall or around a corner or even indoors as still fire off the guns if hidden or not.
To get into it further still, say you had 10 flash guns to work together but firing at a different brightness . Then this is where grouping comes into play
you could for example have 3 guns at full brightness in Group A . another 6 in group B and the other in group C all at different brightness of flash .
The one you see in the on my camera can control about 7 different groups all wirelesly
Added to this there are many types of flashguns and even futher, different cones on a good few can be fittered to direct light in a certain direction. Oh and also different colour gels to produce different lighting effects.
Now you can get some idea of how important/ complicated lighting is and setting it up for particular effects’
this is why film makers employ lighting specialists
of course not with standing there is yet another option is to have several cameras triggered by one wireless remote shutter tramsmitter to a receiver on each camera.
