Having grown up in North London the go to seasides were always Southend and Clacton.
But I recently visited the seasides in the NE/Newcastle area and was very impressed, beautiful beaches. Will definitely return.
@HelenP Indeed! I woke up in Whitley Bay this morning, and am now almost in North London small world
I live 2 miles from the beautiful beach , safe for children and families , I love to see the holiday makers enjoying the water and playing because I am so lucky to live here . My kids brought up here love to come back and see its beauty. Its a slow pace of life , I like it . The nearest motorway is almost an hour away . Everywhere I drive or walk the views are amazing , Chesil beach , the coast road is beautiful . I’m lucky and I know it
@susan_m I am always telling myself how lucky I am to be here in Lowestoft. When I visited Susie once we stood overlooking the sea and I said it again. I say it to my sister when we go to Oulton Broad, which is a couple of minutes drive from each of us. I say it every time I go past the coastline. When on the bus or train to Norwich.
It is quieter and slower than where I lived in London.
Exactly like that. Your beach looks like the blowing sand that provides a mini sand-blast of your feet - I’m pretty sure its a beauty treatment for free.
Jazzi , when I look at the sea I say its made up of trillions of sparkling diamonds . When I’m on the bus I always look at the sea , the clouds , the views and feel blessed . Often I look at the people on the bus , most staring straight ahead or head down on their phones and they seem disinterested. I never feel that way and I’ve been here over 40 years .
Yes Susan, it’s amazing how some people never see the beauty that surrounds them…
My favourite seaside resort is Sidmouth in Devon. My late husband lived there as a boy during the war and it was the first place where we had a holiday after we were married. We visited many times during our marriage - Sidmouth always seems timeless to me. No penny arcades or amusements on the sea front - just an old fashioned seaside town full of atmosphere.
I like Weymouth. Been there lots of times & from my childhood. Portland Bill & West Bay. All in Dorset.
Yep, we’ve become fond of Weymouth too. A safe sandy beach for the kids, not much of a tidal range.
We used to stay in a guest house near the theatre. A room at the front offered a terrific beach view, a room at the back a view of the harbour and the lifeboat. A win win situation.
Barmouth and the coast up to Harlech is my favourite coastal area.
We enjoyed Weymouth Tiff…And the Sea life Tower is a must…
Meet the team…I’m the one in the running shoes…
Yes I know those lovely guest houses you mean . Very quaint
OGF the tower has been demolished , a few years ago the tower had a breakdown and people were trapped for hours at the top , families and small children , they had to call out emergency helicopters and lift them off, it was very distressing. The tower had no stairway to get out . After that it was never used again .
One year we were staying in one of the upper rooms at the front. It was the week of The Weymouth Festival, what a vantage spot to watch the Red Arrows display in comfort, down below on the front it was absolutely choc a bloc.
I like to watch the road bridge go up for tall masts.
Edit to say we can go for the day & often do, it’s only 2 hours.
Seriously? I stayed with Shearings in Weymouth once and walked down to see the tower, but it was not open, due to the wrong season. But yes, safety of people more important.
Yes, we used to like to watch that too.
For a pound you could get the little rowing boat ferry which was pleasant.
Lovely fish and chips on the west side of the harbour!
Always like going up to Irvine, the beach there stretches for miles…lots of cold people wearing coats to keep warm too.
£5 per person for the rowboat now
Bennetts is still there
