Chris, if you come across any lonely gentlemen sporting facial hair, give them this address!
Ha.Ha. Will do!
Iāll settle for one with a pulse
Ok, no problem. Some good video shots on You Tube at the Bel Jou see if you fancy anyone. Let me know & I will do my best for you! Sadly Henry the Rep has gone so he is def not available so if anyone going to Cyprus they could check him out. The best Rep weāve ever had.
Iāve also done several Saga cruises, but havenāt struck lucky in the romance department, but still hoping Iāll meet an elderly millionaire who hasnāt been to Specsavers!
I wasnāt too impressed with the Caribbean either first time round, but this may have been because it was on a huge chavvy ship (not Saga). So Iām giving it another go this Xmas.
Hi Trixie, when we have been into Castries on a shopping trip we notice that if we go in when a ship is in dock that we are pestered by the locals. When no ship is in we have no problems except that the duty free shopping mall is closed. A number of friends like to do there own thing when on holiday so I guess it is the only time that the locals can earn some cash for themseves. We find that most of the gentlemen on our trips stay together, eat & drink together too. Scared of the ladies. Of course it could be the medication that theyāre on??? We have a lovely relaxing hol in the sun with good food & drinkable vino. Nice to watch these huge ships from the Hotel Balcony. The Catamaran trip or sunset cruise is our trip on the seas. Nice & short. Saga have a few new trips according to the brochures. May try one next yr. Have a wonderful hol at Xmas. We will be back home for that.
We have done 3 Caribbean cruises, 2 with P&O Oceana and one with the sister ship of Princess line, both have around 2000 passengers. Have to say we did not care for the Princess line, and have vowed never to travel with them again.
Like Saga as it is more friendly with fewer passengers.
Next year we have 2 cruises one with Cunardās Queen Victoria (see what I think of that but again about 2000 passengers) and the second is with Saga
Yes, Valice, it was the Princess line that I had such a bad experience on - it was like Butlins! Also so money-grabbing, they even charged for a bottle of water to take ashore!
Chris - thanks for the recommendation, I will definitely take the sunset cruise if Saga offers one. Itās definitely cheaper to take a taxi or minibus round the islands, isnāt it - that is if I can find another lady to share the cost!
Of course, Saga host a singles get-together lunch - this invariably comprises 40 women and one shell-shocked male!
Never enough men to go around for sure. The ones that are left are usually grumpy auld yins. Better not to have than them! You may find that on your cruise that you only have 12 hrs on the island. The cruise ships usually come in at 6-8 A.M. & leave about 6 P.M. The sunset cruise on the frigates leave Rodney Bay about 6 P.M. & are back in for 8ish. It is wonderful with Caribbean drums, canopies & white sparkly vino. They serve the local ācocktailā too. The Catamaran trip is a 1/2 day trip & you can see on You tube last yrs excursion of Saga folk. The tour is for everybody not just Saga hence the youngish folk. The lady in the blue dress was full of fun. Hope sheās back for more fun this year.
Thanks for the recommendations, Chris. But in December wonāt the sunset be earlier?
I think we would leave the Bel Jou to travel to Rodney Bay about 4 to pick up from other hotels along the way. Then board the Frigate about 5.30ish. Iām sure we just went round in Circlesā¦could have been the Punch n Vino. Have been 4 times!! Sunset almost as lovely as the Hebrides. Will post one of my videos on You Tube.
Many places the sunset times hardly vary. St Lucia in December is about 6pm
In September went to Japan with Saga, it was wonderful and I can totally recommend the holiday. We had a brilliant tour manager with a great sense of humour. There were 20 on the trip, 7 couples and 6 singles, a real friendly bunch and everyone got on well. It was a tour and we visited and stayed in many different places, it was very well organised.
Suppose you all know by now, we never reached the Caribbean due to the Rubyās air conditioning packing up. We went round the Med instead, very nice but not what we signed on for! (Still, the compensation was very generous!)
Sorry you didnāt get to your chosen destination Trixie, but pleased you were compensated. Ruby is retiring, she let us down last year and we didnāt get away in the end, as it was 6 weeks delay.
We are going cruising on Queen Victoria this time next week, and then again with Saga Pearl II in October.
Have a great time, Valice. Youāre lucky in that thereās two of you, so youāre able to choose any cruise line. Saga seems to be the only one to cater for the single traveller - I refuse to pay the double the normal price that most cruise lines demand from people who prefer to travel on their own! Although Saga has treated me very well in the past, itās unfortunate that they no longer offer fly cruises, so much world to explore (and so little money)!
You are right about the pricing for single travellers on most lines, first cruise we had we took Mum, they wanted her to pay double even though she was only taking one seat on airplane and consuming food for one, she decided if she was paying for 2 she may as well take someone else, so my sister in law came too.
Perhaps you need to advertise for a travelling companion, get to know them well beforehand though.
My best friend who I would want to be with if I were on my own, is a very bad sailor.
There are usually ads for travelling companions in Saga magazine
Thank you for that tip, Valice, Iāll see if I can get hold of a SagMag without having to take out a full subscription!
However, I recently shared a cabin with a lady of my age who I met on the Spirit of Adventure, where we got on very well. But when it came to the cabin share it was like living with Hitler (except that Hitler was probably a lot more meticulous about personal hygiene!)
I cancelled my subs, as I was getting too many copies I hadnāt read.
It is a reasonable value for the cost though, and they are prepared to reduce the price if they think you will leave them!!
Hi all, went to St Lucia last Dec. Going again this year. Just for the warmth & sun for the ol bones! We went to Martinique for the 1 st time. Sadly we were so traumatised by the bad seas going over in the Catamaran than we were very apprehensive when we eventually got to the Island about the trip back. Never saw much as we only went to a church, the square & looked at another couple of buildings, then we were taken to a market that mainly sold fresh produce. The staff on the Catamaran were very nice obviousy used to the bad seas and helping folk suffering from sea sickness. Also quite a few thrown about who luckily did not break any bones. Just grazes. We hung on indoors thinking at any minute we would not come back up from the roll. Now, we are seasoned sea goers having been on many rough seas but this was the worst. You can read about these trips on Tripadvisor called Wave Riders. Catamaran. St Lucia. We did enquire about the sea the day before at the Bel Jou but were told we would have to pay if we cancelled at short notice, so we went. Twizard, we had on board from the Bel Jou a lovely man with a huge beardā¦ (everyone called him Santa he was used to it.) He sadly stayed outside on the Catamaran too scared to move when we started to ārock n rollā on the waves. His beard was real as it was split when we arrived on Martinique. A quiet man who just said āthat was the closest to being on a white water roller coaster raft that Iāll ever experience.ā Pic of him on Tripadvisor Bel Jou.
