Another ministerial resignation

Just as the prime minister got to his feet at PMQs, yet another junior minister stepped down.

This time it was health minister Jo Churchill, who’s the MP for Bury St Edmunds.

She says “the country and party deserve better”.

Sajid Javid, who resigned yesterday, is now giving his resignation speech in the Commons.

He says when he last gave a personal statement he spoke about the importance of institutions but today it is about the importance of integrity.

He says effective governance requires loyalty and he says he is a team player but treading the tightrope between integrity and loyalty has been impossible over recent months.

Last month if he gave (the PM) the benefit of doubt one more time, but he concluded the problem “starts at the top” and “that’s not going to change”.

Javid says it is incumbent on politicians to set standards and take action when these standards are not met in others.

He concludes by saying if he can serve from the backbench it will be a privilege.

Update:

@Omah Arent these resignations all coming from departments that are

Mims Davies is the latest minister to quit. She was employment minister at the Department for Work and Pensions.

She says the Conservative party “needs a fresh start and I can see no other way forward than this”.

That takes the total ministers and aides who have quit to 27.

Previously:

Five more government ministers quit

Kemi Badenoch, Neil O’Brien, Alex Burghart, Lee Rowley and Julia Lopez have all resigned in a single letter.

Julia Lopez was a culture minister.

Lee Rowley was a business minister.

Alex Burghart was an education minister.

Neil O’Brien was a levelling up minister.

Kemi Badenoch was a local government minister.

Was there ever such a parliamentary exodus … :open_mouth:

At least 34 ministers and aides have quit the government since yesterday when Sajid Javid and Rishi Sunak said they were resigning

Update: 38

That is what I asked, no one can say .

Even though Bunter only did a half-assed job we legally have UK sovereignty back in the UK.

It was never about being better off, but worse off for the foreseeable future.

And we are not going to live long enough to see any any benefits. But, whatever makes you happy.

At least 45 ministers and aides have quit the government since Sajid Javid and Rishi Sunak said they were resigning and Michael Gove has since been sacked.

It appears that the Tory government is no longer even quorate enough to form an actual government! Something big has to come along, and Johnson won’t float to the surface many more times! Right now, who the Hell is running the UK?
