Hello Ripple pleased the eventual outcome was good .
My optician at the time you mentioned advised not to go into anywhere for surgery for cataract removal while Covid19 was rife .
Now you mentioned your eyesight was rapidly deteriorating ? As was mineā€¦
I went for a private eye test this year following an NHS one in July when it was declared no change . However I thought there was and planned a second opinion . Paid privately for that with extra testing this month . The result was and my referral from that confirms a change and that one cataract is almost covering the lens and my other eye had changed too .
It also mentions my concern that I might not be able to lie flat on my back for 25- 30 minutes. That time has gone up from the 20 mins I was told previously .
So at assessment I might not be able to have this routine procedure .
Some might think me peculiar for having this thought but it is something I think possible . That having COVID could possibly have affected the eyesight . A younger than me friend who was my lone buddy also noticed eye problems which he didnā€™t have previously and has had to resort to reading spectacles because he couldnā€™t read the newspaper as before . I am shortsighted so my problem is the opposite .

Hi

You could be right about covid affecting your eyesight.
I put down the acceleration of my condition to grieving.

Iā€™m sure youā€™re right ā€¦.if you didnā€™t have to enter hospital during the lockdown best not.

However for me I had no option I had lost my independence , I couldnā€™t see at all.
It was my doctors intervention that got me to the top of the waiting list for the operations.
I had gone from someone who walked 2 to 4 miles a day to being afraid to go out.

Itā€™s a painless miracle operation.
Iā€™m one of those rare bodsā€¦Having never needed to wear glasses and still donā€™t .
Im back to living a full life .

Ripple yes I know what you mean about being afraid to go out . I feel so conscious that Iā€™m looking at the ground to see where Iā€™m walking because the brightness coming from the sky makes it impossible to see clearly .
In the last two months Iā€™ve hardly gone out. Missing all those summer days is something I felt upset about .
I wish you well in your new home by the sea !

I am back, post op appointment done and dusted with Spa Medica.
I was mega impressed with the whole proceduresā€™ the staff were brilliant, happy, smiling, not stressed at all. Free coffee and biccies. Very clean and well organised.
It all kicked off at 3pm today, expected to last 2 hours which it did almost to the minute, three separate testing areas, including a bed test.mmmm? I thought to my selfā€¦just lie on a bed to see if your back is up to itā€¦I passed.
Final result was both eyes to be done, right one first on the 20th Oct, followed by the left 6 to 8 weeks later.
So thatā€™s one concern out of the way, I am feeling a lot happier now.

Vlad ,pleased to read this ! So 2 hours for the assessment . Now a question from me . I was told by the optician I first saw that he would put the drops in to speed up the assessments at SpaMedica .
Is that how things were for you or did SpaMedica do the drops ?
Now whatā€™s this about bed testing ? Bet you enjoyed that!
So not long to wait now .
You must be feeling exhilarated .

Hi Zu, yes exhilarated is the right word ty.
I had the eye drops after the second series of tests, waited about 30mins for the last test which involved all the lights in the eyeā€¦look up look down etc. The lying down was the easiest part, I am a bit over qualified in that area :grinning:

Hi Vlad, my sister had her second eye done yesterday and she was fine again. Make sure you have some sunglasses as they may be hard to find in the winter. Just 3 weeks now and the first eye will be done! :+1:

Thanks Twink, I am a bit wary of wearing sun glasses though, they tend to make me look like Tom Cruise, people make whooshing noises with their arm outstretched as the run past mešŸ˜€

Update,
So here I am 24 hours after my cataract surgery by SpaMedica,
Surgery took about 10 mins , overall I am very pleased by the whole procedure, still a little discomfort and vision has improved in the right eye, some floaters but expected, colours are soooo vivid now, still a little blurry but should improve over the next few weeks.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread, your advice and support certainly helped.

Vlad so pleased to hear it has been done and you are OK. Do you need to have the other eye done?
My sister can see really well after having hers done but she needs reading glasses now & she hasnā€™t got into the habit of taking them with her when she goes out. If we go out to eat, I tell her I know what she likes so she will have to eat what I choose on the menu. That should make her remember the reading glasses.

Hi Twink, yes I do need the left one doing, I have to have my right eye checked next month and if ok I will then be put forward by my optician for the next op, which I am hoping to be in the new year, I am going to need new prescription glasses next year for reading. The menu trick is a good motivator for remembering your glassesšŸ˜€

Iā€™m so pleased it went well for you, thatā€™s brilliant

Itā€™s such an easy op really but the idea of having anything done to your eyes is so scary, I bet youā€™re relieved itā€™s over

Donā€™t forget, when you get new glasses donā€™t get expensive frames the first time because your eyes keep ā€œsettlingā€ for a long time after the op and youā€™ll probably find you need new ones again quite soon

Xxxx

Thanks Maree, that does help, I am thinking of having my prescription glasses reglazed especially the prescription sun glasses.

Spa Medica certainly have a good reputation so how are things a few days along ?

We are progressing, now into day 6, one more night with the the eyepatch, one more day of antibioticsā€¦
Vision is still good in the right eye but visibility is marred by having a weak left eye, colours are so intense
Booked an eye test for next month so I can be referred back to SpaMedica for surgery on the left eye
So thatā€™s it so far

I thought the optician would have sent detailed information about both eyes Vlad
