Post your daily exercise routine

All of this pent-up energy seems to diminish with age Surfermom. The mind is willing but the flesh is weak…:frowning: And once I get sat down with this computer after a run with some hot porridge steaming in the bowl, all my plans of an industrious day seem to evaporate…

After yesterday’s mudfest on the lane I decided to keep my shoes clean and do a nice road course. At six miles it’s a bit longer than my usual route, but hey, I’ve never been one to turn down an extra mile or two. It was going well as I left the village, a bit nippy but not freezing, and a beautiful red hue in the eastern sky just before sunrise.

Then suddenly I noticed the odd slip and slide and realised that out in the country it was a degree or too colder, and the still damp roads had a thin layer of ice. There were some places where traction was good but I had to be careful, one lapse of concentration and I would have been sitting rather than running…

The run went without incident and although it took me a few more minutes to do the extra mile, I didn’t have to spend time cleaning my shoes at the end… A very enjoyable 6 miles…

Just back from North Carolina where my only opportunity to run was in a hotel gym, thanks to fog and mist putting an icy glaze on most every running surface.

I am back home though, with my laces are tied and the rest of me covered in burqa black so as not to worry about the mud. Much of the soils running along the coastlines here are “ultisols,” Latin for “Made-of-rust-staining-everything.” Yes, it’s still a muddy mess here after a weak. Nothing to do but ignore it, run, and break out the firehoses afterwards.

0.0 today, but I hope to report back with a few digits ahead of that decimal.

Thanks for the inspiration, OGF. No excuses!

There is nothing like having to be in swimwear in a couple of weeks to light fire under my feet. The mirror tells no lies.

Actually, it was just beautiful out yesterday with overcast skies and cool temperatures conducive for running. When it was time to wind down, I decided to continue on. A few bends in the road later, taking the right fork, being drawn on to the marshy pond, and then past the blooming pecan trees, it was finally a matter of time that made me turn around.

What a surprise when I ran my best distance of the year: 9.44 miles. I’d say 9.5, but that would be cheating .

It seems that my guardian angel was in league with Mother Nature today as I started to run, only to get rained out, four separate times. Fifth attempt was a charm though and though it was sloppy, it felt great to beat my two nemeses for the day.

5.5 miles, and it’s Spring! The azaleas are in full bloom.

The sun was in and out, and so was I with a zillion things to do before getting ready for an impromptu trip for some sun and adventure. I am hoping that with a break from inundating responsibilities, I can carve out plenty of running every day. Strange as it sounds, if I run before I fly, I feel less stiff and more relaxed. 5.5 slow but steady miles.

No, no, no. This thread shall not die. Spring is upon us, so it’s time to get moving. My shoes are soggy from poorly timed beach running and I am chubby from all the good foot, but there are no excuses to be made.

4 sad miles due to a late arrival. Pace: pathetic. Mood: happy!

After missing Tuesday’s run due to a badly swelled and painful ankle you would have thought that all that pent up energy would have propelled me to a personal best this morning…

Unfortunately that was not the case, and I felt like a carthorse bumbling round a nice and dry five mile route. How I managed to get home without having to walk I’ll never know…:frowning: I’ll give it another go tomorrow…

The ankle? I hear you say…No problem at all, although it was still swelled a bit, and my left shoe felt like a size too small, it gave me no pain or problems.
My right ‘Gouty’ toe on the other hand (or foot if you like) ached all the way round, and when I showed it to Doctor Roberts…(:049:) on Monday, she reckons that I’ve got arthritis in the joint as well…

Nice running by the way Surfermon, you should count yourself lucky, dry out yer shoes, and lay off of the pies and you should be just fine…

I do wonder if someone is trying to tell you a message, Bob :frowning:

You could be right Mags, there’s definitely something wrong.
I’ve just completed another awkward run, in a series of awkward runs. I was all over the place and never found the pace I was looking for…:frowning:

And it didn’t end there. I could only manage 30 pressups and my five minutes of ‘Eyeballs Out’ on the exercise bike turned into a pathetic struggle…

It looks like being a short, slow run on Sunday…
I’m just so tired…:090:

Bob, I do think you should have a good check over with your Doctor before you force more runs on yourself.
Meanwhile try to cut your running down by half for now, you can always build yourself up again when you feel better and your doctor agrees.

After a couple of awkward runs this week I wasn’t expecting too much this morning. In fact, with rain on the window and a sore toe I could have turned over and gone back to sleep. But Sunday would not be Sunday if I didn’t go for a run, any distance is preferable than no run…:frowning:

So I laced up the running shoes (under the watchful eye of Maddie the cat, she’s just fascinated by laces) pulled on my shorts and waterproof, and set off for a six mile steady jog…

It still felt awkward and mechanical but I persevered and was soon out in the country avoiding puddles and mud blobs left by the tractors preparing the fields for spring. The pain in my toe reduced the further I went, and I wondered how bad it would really get if I didn’t go out and use it…

By the time I reached the road junction (for a six, or an eight) I don’t know why I did it, I just went for the eight…To be honest, the steady pace I had adopted actually felt good and I arrived home feeling refreshed and satisfied that I had made the effort. It even stopped raining half way round…

Sorry Mags, doctors don’t know much…
They treat everyone the same and seventy year old blokes shouldn’t be running, in their eyes. I walk into the surgery and tell them I’m having trouble with my big toe when I run, and they shout ‘Next!’…:frowning:
I shall go for my blood test tomorrow though and see if Gout is indeed the problem…

Just started today on a daily walk to get ready and fit for the holidays, that is providing the river cruise is still going due to this damn virus.

We are due to sail on a Baltic cruise in May with P&O realspeed, Providing the ship is sailing and the cruise is not cancelled, I’ll be on it…
I have just received an email from P&O offering us another £400 onboard spend as well as the £170 each we were already getting…Let’s hear it for P&O…:026:

Would you believe that all my years of Fell Running I never actually climbed the highest mountains in the UK. Snowdon, Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike…So I’m going to set the record straight…

And in 2017 I had a quick ascent of Snowdon…
And this year for my seventieth birthday in July I intend to give Scafell Pike a run for its money…

Had to curtail my 30000 steps a day in light of current events, so far done 3500 steps walking the dog, then had a bash on the rowing machine and spin cycle.

Mine is as follows.
1 get up at 07.30 hrs
2 come downstairs, make a drink and smoke a cigarette.
3 08.15 hrs drive wife to work at the local hospital.
4 08.25 hrs collect paper, cigs and loaf from local shop
5 08.35 hrs return home, feed dog, make another drink, light another cigarette and switch on my laptop.
there endeth my exercise routine for the day. lol

Nice work Spitty, but I’m not too sure about sparky’s fitness regime…:009:

I was out on the road for 6:30 am in surprisingly mild and settled weather, just a shower apparently during the night but not enough to make puddles or mud on the off road bits.

Not a soul in sight as I left the village, but a few cars on the main road, probably NHS workers going to work at the hospital or bagging a bargain at the local Tesco. I heard that the police had set up a roadblock yesterday questioning everyone’s reason for being out…

The lane was equally devoid of people except for the two regular dog walkers I normally pass, but even they seemed to give me a wider birth than usual.

I arrived home in a poor time due to an aching toe joint, but at least I went out…

30 pressups and five minutes of eyeballs out on the exercise bike has just about seen me off for the rest of the day, so it’ll be easy to slob around the house now and think about what happened here today…

Foxy, total paces for yesterday was 12300, just over a third of a normal day, but, that is good as I am only partaking in my essential job for the foreseeable future.

That comes out at almost 7 miles Spitty assuming each step is a yard long…Good going by any standards…:038:

Walked up and down the stairs a number of times. Took the dog for 1/8th of his walk. Now the dog walking is currently the main exercise I have but he saw a fox after the 1/8th point and nearly pulled me right over in his tazmanian devil rage. That was the end of walkies. Far more foxes around now we are in lockdown which makes dog walking quite stressful.

Planning to start online yoga tomorrow so will hopefully be able to show real exercise every day instead of just walking around the house and garden.
