Happy Birthday once more Floydy. I’ve had one of those stiff necks before. They seem to last forever and a day but have a good one all the same.
Here’s to Surfermom.
Stay stay.
Go Lion Queen. I’m so proud of you.
You’re now in the ‘zone.’

7.2 wow. I can’t walk faster than 5.2. I never run or jog as I’m worried for my knees as I have arthritis.
Enjoyed reading that. Enjoy your birthday and little booze up.
Yes, definitely second-rate compared to weight machines. Still, they got me functioning after the heart attack so I am grateful. Hopefully “big gym” soon.
Thanks for the good wishes All…managed a short walk on Thursday, about 2 miles, I decided gentle walking was ok, but I’m still resting my silly foot (elevated) often.
Also did a Pilates class yesterday, though the ankle still feels a bit stiff, but I can flex the foot now and the swelling is right down.
I’ve been wearing an elastic compression stocking which feels very supportive.
Today I was swimming (and larking about!!) in the wonderful pool and rapids with the grandkids at Center Parcs which we visited for the day.
So it’s a bit achey this evening.
(I’m finding Ibuprofen gel is good)
Hey ho, these things take time…
Thanks LQ. Got long legs, which makes it easier to stride out I guess. And big thighs to go faster on the bike too
Thanks Bratti. It was a good day yesterday.
My neck seems to be a little better but I’ll watch myself at the gym as it’s a heavy weights day today.
Sounds very sensible mate
Injuries and niggles are a nuisance, Ruthio. It’s just a matter of balancing rest and gentle exercise to get over them. Hopefully, the swimming will have helped there. Glad you enjoyed your day at Centerparcs
Sunday 14/10/18: Full body (catch-up); 75 mins.
An extra session today to make up in some part the training I missed most of last week. Plenty of time today as I’m off work tonight, so “legs” will be done tomorrow instead. So just a general upper body workout today.
DB bench press:
10x26’s, 10x26’s
6x32’2, 6x32’x
4x36’s
*Taking it relatively easy because of my neck issues, which are still coming and going annoyingly. Reaching the 36kg DB’s wasn’t too bad though.
Chest press, stack machine:
10x80, 10x90, 5x100
Decline bench:
10x60, 6x70
E-Z curls:
DB preacher curl, alt.:
Barbell curl, seated:
10x30, 10x30, 10x30
*Not being lazy sitting down doing these, but this way it takes the pressure off my lower back.
Tricep pushdowns:
12x30, 12x35, 12x40
Ab crunch:
30x30, 30x30, 25x35, 15x40
Tricep extensions:
100x25
Bicep stack curls:
50x10
Now for something to eat, followed a whole load of holiday ironing!
Thanks for reading.
Monday 15/10/18: Legs; 55 mins.
One day later than normal due to the extra upper body workout yesterday. An emphasis on strength rather than high reps, with particular attention being paid to slow controlled movements for the knee areas. I even managed a couple of added bits of cardio to boot!
Treadmill:
10 mins warm-up.
Incline press:
25x150, 20x200, 15x250, 10x300
Horizontal ‘sled’ press:
20x200, 25x180, 30x160, 50x100
Seated ham curls:
15x50, 12x60, 8x70, 25x40
Adductor:
20x60, 20x60
Abductor:
20x60, 20x60
Extensions:
25x50, 15x75, 15x100
20x100 ½ reps
25x40
*The “½ reps” were simply a set of reps done at almost the full extension to strengthen the knees, with the full stack weight.
Bike:
3 mins, level 3.
Thanks for reading.
I’m here Floydy…
Sorry I’ve not been around much but I’ve been away on holiday the last week, and sometimes I run out of things to write about my running. I’ve still been getting out for my scheduled runs, but nothing to write home about apart from the days getting shorter and I’m having to set off a bit later in the mornings. It was a cold morning this morning, I should have taken my gloves. It took me a good three miles to warm up…
I’m not happy, I’ve been trying to find a supplier of my old running shoes. I found a later model of the shoe and ordered it and it came yesterday. It bears absolutely no resemblance to the previous model, and in a word…They’re crap!
Another thirty quid down the proverbial… That’s the last time I buy running shoes off the net…
Ninety quid in Guernsey for a pair of New Balance that won’t see the winter out…I’m such a sucker!!!..
So Floydy…as the dark destroyer says on ‘Eggheads’ “Just another day at the office!”…
You’ve been doing some good workouts after your holiday by the way…Hope you had a great time…
Hi Bob.
I don’t know about discontinued lines of running shoes mate, but surely there must be shops online somewhere? How about Googling the name of your shoe and looking at Images - quite often the pic will come up and maybe a supplier, who knows? I do this a lot with music t-shirts that I collect and I’ve found many I never knew existed.
Glad you’re doing a bit though mate, hope the holiday went well. How many is this to date this year? Oh how to be retired with all that time!
Dark Destroyer…surely he’s on The Chase matey?
Anyway, aside from the nitpicking, my training has suddenly ceased this week and for the foreseeable future methinks. After a good few sessions last week - plus restarting the cardio work - I’ve been tied up with other things this week (it’s a pain only having a couple of hours a day to do stuff with. Soon be off nights hopefully). Tomorrow my granddaughter is staying overnight so that puts out Friday and Saturday morning’s training as well. Ho Hum. And that afternoon it’s my meet up for a few sherbets with the boyz, so no time bud. Not to worry, there’s always next week
Take care mate
Cheers Floydy, yes you’re right, the Dark Destroyer is off the chase… One of the drawbacks of getting on a bit…
Just three holidays this year Floydy, we had that pesky kitchen job earlier on in the year, it kept us busy, and battling…
I’ve had a good look round the net for the shoes Floydy, and because I bought a few pairs when I could still buy them, a lot of time has passed and there have been quite a few new models since then, so it looks like a visit to a few specialised running shops I know, but I’ve got a few pairs to put me on…
Hope you can get back to the gym soon mate, meanwhile just enjoy the rest and the session with the boyz.
Well, I throw three balls up in the air and sometimes drop one.
Then I play with a Yoyo and throw it as far as I can
Also, do a Tap Dance round the Kitchen.
All my bending over is now done in the garden.
I’m quite pleased today. I’ve been putting the hours in at the “little gym” and noticed better muscles in my arms, chest and core, with even the dodgy legs getting some back. Even with the extra muscle gained I have lost 5lbs in weight over the last few months, making a grand total of 120lbs since 4 years ago. I’m just happy I haven’t slipped back into my old habits, which I thought might have been a possibility, to be honest.
thats fantastic, well done you. I too have lost a large amount of weight, its great isn’t it when we can work out. I won’t ever slip back into my old habits, I like how I feel as opposed to how I felt back then.
Floydy better watch out, you’ll be catching him up in the muscle department lol
45 minute spin class and 15 minute swim. Feel fabulous. Spin gives me a natural high.
Yes, good work, Tachyon. I’m arm curling oranges as we speak
Good lass, keep it going, LQ
You’ll be throwing a frisbee next, Azure, and catching it at the other end. Start with a boomerang, it’s easier.
Thank you very much, and my congratulations to you too. It is indeed a good feeling and neither of us will slip into our old ways, I bet. We remember what it was like!
Floydy is safe… for now, lol!!
Thanks, mate.
