Poor Arthur

I’m holding it together - just

When I saw him earlier all I could say to Danni the vet was don’t let him not come home. He really is that poorly.

He’s on a drip of antibiotics and is on pain relief. His eyes we will worry about after he gets through this. We and the vet think his eyes get bad because we are on farm land and the grasss is high and slapping into him all the time

Missy one of my friend’s Salukis had pancreatitis many years ago. he was so poorly that Liverpool University Vets looked after him… but he did get better!
That must be 30 years ago now, and treatments will have improved since then , so please don’t give up hope!

We are all hoping Arthur will get better, so lets hope that numbers improve the outcome and send him a group hug.:grouphug:

:023:

Sorry to hear that Missy :frowning: but from what others are saying don’t give up hope!

Missy, my cat had tri-pancreatitis when she was 6 years old, that was a triple inflammation of the pancreas, liver and intestines.

She was hospitalized for just over week and treated with pain control, fluid therapy and dietary management. Initially she had a feeding tube.

We were allowed to go to the Vet Hospital when we wanted to try to encourage her to eat very small pieces of chicken. I remember now the first time she was able to pull herself over from the back of her pen to see us, it was then I knew she was going to be alright.

Like you, I was very worried as she was so ill and at 6 she was still young … but my lovely Cassie eventually pulled through and we were able to take her home with her medications to care for her. It was a few months before she was back to her usual self but the important thing was she made it and we were fortunate enough to have her until she was 20 years old.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Arthur will come through this too. x

Does anyone know what causes it or is it just something they can get for no reason?

Have a look at this link LD, it will help you understand pancreatitis …

Thanks Mags. An interesting read but not pleasant.

No it’s not pleasant LD, it’s awful when you see your cat so ill.
Cassie’s illness was about 15 years ago so I’m hoping the treatment today has progressed in that time.

The worst thing about all animals is that they can’t tell us how they are feeling.

That’s another reason why I have respect for good vets.

Unlike doctors, they can’t ask their patient where it hurts, or how long has this been going on for, how did the accident happen? etc.

Vets don’t have half as much info to go on.
Imagine if we sat mute at the GP’s, how would they get on with their diagnosis then?

Missy…you and Arthur are in my thoughts and prayers… :049:

(((((Missy & Arthur)))))

Yes that’ very true Mups. It’s like when the doctor asks what wrong with you and you think , well that’s why I’m here.

I do think animals try to communicate with us and the longer we have them the more we understand them but it’s a slow process.

Hoping to hear some good news soon about Arthur.

Heres the latest :frowning:

They aren’t 100% that it is pancreatitis although they are running with it. The can do more blood tests to be sent to England but she’s saying even that may be inconclusive so will only go that route if preferred treatment doesn’t work

The ulcer on his eye has crusted, this needs to be removed but right now he’s too poorly so that has to wait. Hes also developed an ulcer in his other eye :frowning:

Right now he’s still in on two drips and is very lethargic. I got called out of work to go in to try get him to eat and he managed a spoonful of tuna and a couple of dreamies and he seemed to perk up a bit on seeing us both

Im to go in this evening and try to get him to eat again and this time the vet will have a bit more time to spend with us talking through things. Between her trying to get her own lunch, do a dental treatment on a dog and explain to us the plans forward, it was all too messy and Ive forgotten half of it already

They also hope to have found his rescue records and see if he had some sort of titre test when he was found. Luckily I knew his rescue name so at least the rescue will be able to help with that

So a slight improvement on yesterday but he’s got a long way to go yet

Thank you all so much for understanding and sending us love and good wishes, it means a lot xxx

Good news HES HOME:041:

Went back last night and stayed with him to encourage him to eat, he managed about a quarter of a tin of Tuna, not his usual fare but we needed him to eat

Went back this morning and he was climbing up the bars to get to us, such a huge improvement and as he had eaten over night, Danni agreed home was the best place for him now

So he’s home with a pharmacy worth of meds

Tablets for his heart, they have found a murmur

Lubricant for his eyes

Eye drops for ulcers

And most weird of all some of his own serum to be dropped into his eyes

We also have the usual metacam if he looks to be in pain

All the drops for the eyes have to be administered every four hours, 10 mins apart. Not an easy task but it has to be done. He’s also on house arrest again, thats even harder then getting the eye drops in him as he really is an outside cat, only coming home to eat and sleep

Right now he’s sprawled out across the carpet looking sorry for himself. He’s a right hotch pitch cos he’s been shaved in so many areas

So glad to have him home x

Brilliant news Missy, hope he continues to improve!

Wonderful news Missy

Thanks for letting us know Missy, things are sounding much better.

Now he is home and under house arrest, maybe it should be you that we are feeling sorry for!

Good news Missy. Hope Arthur will be back in good health very soon.

What better news than this for a Wednesday morning…so happy for both of you. :049:
