Evening All, been away down in Inverness today with Himself. He had business there and I had a date with the shops. I made a packed lunch and a big flask of coffee that we enjoyed on the way back up North, We nipped off the A9 and over to Chanonry Point to see the Dolphins as it was high tide and they come in with the tide to feedā¦They didnāt disappoint. Photos tomorrow as I canāt be bothered uploading them off the camera just now.
As far as I know Snake Pass is the local name for part of the NC500, at Strathcarron near Applecross.
Snake Pass is where I was thinking of May, apparently there is one and itās on the A57 so possibly on the route my Scottish friend used to take from ādown southā. He was from a village close to one of the lochs, but there are lots of these and I donāt know the name of it. Anyway, see link below:
Thanks Roxy, I will have to check this out on Google maps as I donāt know anywhere in Scotland.
Such magnificent scenery you have in Scotland, it sounds quite ālocalā the way you describe it.
Really, itās quite something else!
Baz, Itās over on the West Coast. If you look for the Isle of Skye you will find it opposite on the mainland. Itās not local to me as Iām up on the North Coast, towards the East.
Thanks Roxy, that looks like my task for later some time.
Another learning curve to contend with!
If Snake pass is the road that Roxy mentioned ā¦near Applecrossā¦Iāve driven along it , I donāt think I was ever out of 2nd gearā¦It was the most terrifying drive of my lifeā¦never againā¦if it was lovely scenery, I didnāt see any of it ,only what was in front of meā¦
Itās been very windy here todayā¦where is that heatwave??
OMG,i think the passengers would be the only ones to enjoy the scenery, and even Their hearts would be in Their mouthsā¦Just imagine what it would be like covered in snow in Winter.EEK!..Donāt go Baz,Yeār too young tae die
Nice of you to mention that May, although when I was young, many yearsā ago now, thatās just the kind of challenge I would have like to do, just to prove that I can conquer it. A bit like this new forum, itās there to beat and in the case of Snake Pass itās only a bit of a windy road and some snow!
There are lots of snow gates up here, some are closed for weeks at a time.
@Rox Yes, I heard about the bad weather from my Scottish friend and it sounds horrendous. He said even the snow ploughs get snowbound at times and have to be rescued! This year it seems you have had some of our weather from here ādown southā and we have been having yourās. All very strange, I wonder how much of that is due to āclimate warmingā we hear so much about now?
Yes Baz it can get very bad in the Winter, we have what we call the Lambing Snow. That means Spring is almost here and the lambs are being born, then the weather has one last kick at us. If weāre lucky we can judge it and get the lambs and mums inside otherwise itās a headcount and a panic hunt in the deep snow for the missing ones.
Nice here today, despite the weather man saying it would be cool and cloudy, just faffing about this afternoon then out with the Clydes this evening. We are hoping to start harvesting next Monday, so everything else stops, daybreak to nightfall and work work work.
Good afternoon everybody. Roxy your going to be busy over the next week. I watch Our Yorkshire Farm and Iām amazed at all the work they have to do, including the children. Cloudy here and a bit cool at the moment. Housework today and then out for a walk later.
Good morning everybody. A bit overcast here at the moment. Case all packed my niece phone me and we are off to London tomorrow.
Morning, Had my swim and walked the dog. Dull cloudly and looking like heavy rain, quite cold too. More like end of October than August.
Sticking close to home this afternoon just catching up on housework.
Jess have a lovely time in London, Itās been almost 30 years since I was there and I hated it, it was even more busy than I remembered from previous visits, doubt Iād last a day there now without wanting to leave. Iām so used to the wide open spaces now.
Good morning Roxy and all in Scotland, well almost morning as I only just missed it!
The harsh winters in Scotland must be really tough at those times.
I find thatās a really interesting programme, so much so that Iāve watched it all, including the repeats. The way the children are brought up is quite something, they all seem to get on together too.
Thanks Roxy the last time we went was about two years ago. We visited Kensington Palace and seen Dianaās dresses. Baz I love the way the older ones take care of their younger siblings. Iām like you I watch all the repeats.
Vastly different so how some families are nowadays though. All I see on there reminds me very much of my childhood, roaming the fields from morning to night which included falling into ditches and down trees etc. That was how we learned in those days, none of this keeping children indoors so not allowing them to learn about various things.
Itās a real shame though when controversy can even affect a family living as they do, out in the wilds of Yorkshire and I reckon, doing a good job of bringing up their children:
Good Afternoon each, where have You all gone?
Oh I see Jessieās off gallivanting to the Big Smokeā¦Enjoy Yerself Henā¦smileys aint working!
Been taking a few days out of here as Optician advised Me not to spend so much time on laptopā¦not good for My eye health,
Hope all are well xx
Good afternoon May and all in Scotland!
Iām here May, no idea where any others are though!
Sorry to hear youāve had to take a break from OFC, better to take notice though. I wonder, have you ever been advised about how to lessen eye strain when using a computer? If not then there are ways that will help, I found out about this years ago, probably in the mid-1980s when I first started using computers. Just say and I will post on here, thereās one very important way that many people donāt realise about but itās really so simple.
Anyway May and everyone, enjoy whatās left of the weekend. By the way itās raining here ādown southā so can we have our sunshine back please!
