Over 50's Club Scotland (Part 1)

Oooh forgot to come here and say Hi - Hello everyone. Still freezing, still skiting around on the ice in an undignified manner. No plans for today yet but its fairly early. Keep warm and stay safe everyone!

Afternoon All, Had a busy morning with one thing and another, snow is slowly melting thank heavens. Had to take the brush handle and smash all the icicles hanging from the gutters, they would have damaged the cars or hurt the dog/us if they had fallen so I helped them on their way.
After lunch it’s a tidy up and see to the washing then feet up at the fire and a wee snooze.

Hi everyone, still freezing here and a very cold wind, got towels on the line today, getting a good blow…had two harassing scam calls this morning, supposedly from amazon,I don’t have an account, don’t use them
I wonder where they get these Asian sounding robots…

Good afternoon. Sunny and cold here with a few icy patches still it was good to get out for a walk. Paula I’ve had those calls from Amazon also BT, who sound genuine when you hear it. Had a bit of lunch now feel like a wee nap.

Good morning. Another cold one here but its supposed to get warmer next week. Waiting for a delivery from a local shop I ordered some tulips in pots, once they arrive I’ll get out for a walk.

good morning all, I had my jab this morning, in the community centre, the place was mobbed, everyone was so nice so glad to have it done at last.
I saw on the news this morning that some folk arriving in this country have fake documents so that they won’t have to isolate…how selfish is that, they don’t care if they spread it around…

Hello everyone! Just been out with the rubbish with gloves on. All bins are sealed shut with the weather so I had to prise it open with a knife. I’m sure I made a pleasant sight out the back with a mask on wielding a knife!

Paula - thats disgusting, fake documents. I hope they get caught and jailed for fraud!

Morning, Bloody Blimey it’s so cold here and it’s the wind howling in from the sea, it’s blowing a hooley. :100:
Paula, that’s awful it just shows that even in an emergency folk don’t give a damn as long as they’re alright. :018:
Pixie, I have an old Spurtle that doesn’t get used for porridge but it’s great for giving frozen things a good wallop and freeing them to open up.

Paula I haven’t seen any news today. Pixie I agree with you put them in the pokie and throw away the key. You must have made a lovely sight with the mask and the knife. Roxy I haven’t heard spurtle used in years. Changed my mind about the walk its Baltic out there.

Jess, Coming from the islands I grew up with the word. I’ve always called it a spurtle and I guess I always will. It sat in the cellar for years untill several Winters ago and I had a frozen metal lift on a gate at the side of the house, I then found the bin lid was also frozen fast. I went hunting for somethng to wallop them with and spied the spurtle, so it has a new lease of life…but just seasonal. :044:

I had to sneak over to Google images and see what a spurtle was! I had no idea  Every day is a school day as they say - it does look like a broken bit of rocking chair, though

Marginally safer than a knife too

Pixie, What did you look up? I don’t get the reference to Knife or Rocking Chairs.
This is my Spurtle, (porridge stick) just took a pic of it for you…

Oooh, thats different from this one (hang on I’ll see if I can link to a picture)

Its a bit more ornate, like a post from a wooden rocking chair? No? ok…

The knife is what I was wielding before I was offered a spurtle!

Yes I see what you mean, I think they are the ornament ones the tourists buy. Not meant for practical use.
Where as the real ones are a bit different.

Yes…the real one are proper hefty things aren’t they? Could do a lot of damage. I must keep an eye out for one - its the kind of thing that ends up in charity shops.

Yes it could do a lot of damage, I’ve had it for many years, think I got it off Ebay, but again you need to make sure it’s one for use. the Ornament ones usually are thinner and look as if they’ve had a good coat of varnish. One good wallop would probably splinter them, unlike my big boy.

Roxy I wouldn’t like to be hit on the head with that. We had more snow here so maybe it will get a bit warmer now.

Aye Jess your quite right, it could do a lot of damage. It’s pretty heavy.
Isn’t it great to have this thread alive and kicking again?
It was just the 3 of us for such a long time, now all we need is our May to return to the fold, but I’ve a feeling she’s had enough of the carry on’s towards the Scots in the political threads.

I’m avoiding the political threads. Too risky for my blood pressure!
I see you’re discussing spurtles. Are you porridge fans? I wish I was but I can’t bear the texture somehow. Makes me gag. I know its very good for you though.

Hi Jane no I was saying I used my spurtle this morning to wallop the matal latch on the gate at the side of the house, it was frozen solid. I keep it for doing things like that, no porridge involved.
