Over 50's Club Scotland (Part 1)

Loved your post about Scotland Gumbud . Lots more to see though . Hopefully you will be able to return one day .

Myrtle , have you been to the Shearings hotel in Melrose ? Donā€™t know what the hotel is like but Melrose and surrounding places are really lovely . Well worth a visit .

Me againā€¦I forgot to say Hi to Roxy and welcome to the Scottish Forum

Off out now for My first long walk for a while before the rain returnsā€¦Have a good one Folks,x

Good morning every body all are welcome on here. Gumbud I was over at Bute a few weeks ago and we visited the tearoom at Mount Stuart. I have been there quite times visiting the House. I can see Arran every day and sometimes Ailsa Craig on a really good day.

Hi Abbey ā€¦ I stayed there last September ā€¦ it was lovely :-). Thatā€™s when I went to Edinburgh ā€¦ on the Borders Railway ā€¦ great trip but I was overwhelmed by Waverley Station

Iā€™ve posted some pictures on my profile page in my albums

Apologies to Abbey - and anyone else Iā€™ve overlooked. I seem to be getting my pages mixed up and have missed some posts.:blush:

Iā€™ve been to Dumfries House grounds a couple of times Abbey. A great place to walk around. I havenā€™t been on a tour of the house as yet. Very grand Iā€™m told. Itā€™s all run and maintained by The Princes Trust. HRH often stays there.

Iā€™ll try and keep abreast of all the posts in future !

Mike.

Some years ago I was a cub/scout leader in South London. I organised a two week summer camp in Scotland which involved almost one hundred boys plus adults and included the Gourock to Dunoon ferry. Great fun!! We had to shift almost three tons of camping gear including marquees so I put a plea for help in a local paper and I had a phonecall from McAlpines the construction company who kindly offered to transport the lot there and back for free! All they asked me to do was put a short thank you message in a local paper in the Dunoon area of Scotland. Needless to say I was more than pleased to do that. Apart from an almost daily trip to hospital with one boy and his cut foot and another boy capsizing his canoe on a loch, the two week camp was a winner.

Hi Mike ,
We went on the tour of the house and it was fabulous . The furniture and in particular the chandeliers were just amazing .
Iā€™ve never seen anything like them ! Joanna lumley was on the tour we were on and couldnā€™t have been nicer .
After all that , thereā€™s a very nice tearoom

Not surprised you got help in Scotland . Very nice people there !

Will have a look at your albums Myrtle:-D

:023::slight_smile:

Talking of chandeliers ā€¦ there was a programme on tv a few years ago about the cleaning processes in one of the grand houses. Apparently they used gin to clean the chandeliers !!! Iā€™d use stardrops and save the gin for later :lol:

I met some lovely friendly local people in Rothsay

I went to a dance one afternoon because it was raining and got a wonderful welcome ā€¦ I felt as though I was a missionary because they wanted to know all about the dancing I did at home

Afternoon Folksā€¦,Iā€™m fair enjoying the banter from You All,fabā€™ā€¦Hey Myrtle,Iā€™m gonna call You Ginger from now on :-p

 as long as you mean Ginger Rogers and not Ginger Spice

On the other hand they could have got Del Boy and Rodney to do the job

As long as itā€™s gin they use to clean the chandeliers and not New Zealand Sauvignon blanc itā€™s ok with me

I shall always remember my first ever trip up to Wick some twenty years ago. Firstly it was a hell of a drive, taking around fourteen hours. More importantly, I couldnā€™t understand a single word anyone was saying to me, except for my wee Granddaughter who had lived in South London for her first few years.

My ex sister-in-law came from Edinburgh but had lived in England since being a teenager. She spoke with a lovely Scottish accent but my goodness when she got together with her family I couldnā€™t understand a word

You should visit Fraserburgh EZā€¦or even Glasgows East Endā€¦speaking in tongues aint in it

I have more than enough problems with my Granddaughter when she comes to visit. Perfect Englishā€¦well almost, for a four year oldā€¦when she moved to Wick. Now I need a translator when she visits.
