Ohhh, fun. Good luck with that. My son’s dad went through that several times throughout his life, as he used to have crohn’s disease as well as ulcerative colitis.

Morning all.

Yes Linda. The Hospital sent me one of those Bowel Cancer Screening Kits, which they send to you when you are 60 years old, I did the test and the results came back as Abnormal with bleeding in my Stools, was asked to do the test again, did it, it came back to same results, then I did a third test, same results, so they said I would have to have a Colonoscopy to find out why.

So I have just had two slices of toast with butter and one black tea, no more food now for the day, I can drink black tea or water, have got two lots of powders to take with 4 litres of water today, to make me go to the toilet to clear me out, I will have to take my blood finger prick test every hour to make sure I don’t to too low, because i’m not taking any Insulin or Medications now.

So everyone think of me today starving, while you lot are all tucking in to Roast Dinners.

thanks for the explanation Linda–and good luck for tomorrow Susaie–never had it done myself, but I know lots of people who have…

OMG, I can’t get off the Loo - Help! Taking the powder stuff, I’ve been to the toilet 6 times in 5 mins.

Morning all.

Only another 15 mins. and we will be driving to the Hospital, it takes 50 mins. to there, so by 10.15am this morning I will be able to eat a Jam sandwich and I’ve decided to have Fish and Chips at lunch time today.

Good luck and let us know if they find anything.

Morning all.

The Colonoscopy went well, they have found a Polyp which was bleeding at the time, when it was on the screen, so I watched them take a sample to be sent off to the Labs for Biopsy, also I have got Pockets Disease, which look like overflaps or bulges, like Pockets which are caused by Lack of Fibre in my Diet, so more Fibre for me, otherwise everything else was normal, just got to wait for 2 weeks for results on the Polyp.

Today we are having a fry-up.

Glad it went well. Hope they can get everything sorted. Time to eat more fibrous foods!

Today for lunch I’m having a veggie burger with 2 ounces of bread & butter pickles on the side. Dinner will be a grilled sandwich on seeded rye with honey roasted turkey, tomatoes, onions, reduced-fat Swiss cheese, avocado and I make a spread by mixing 1/2 tablespoon of light mayo with 1/2 tablespoon of brown sugar mustard. Not sure what I’ll have with it, though. Maybe a small salad or some light soup.

Hi Linda, I can’t understand this Fibre thing though, because 5 days out of 7 I have Meat with 3 Vegs. and I have an Apple and Pear every day. Surely that is enough Fibre.

Well, I’d ask your doctor how much fiber he/she wants you to get per day. Sometimes we think we’re getting enough, but we’re not. I know I don’t come close to the recommended daily allowance, despite all the veg I eat.

Im glad that all was Ok for you Susie—I have vhad friends–plus my sister who had this done and they all agree that the constant having to go to toilet was the worst thing. !!

its a funny thing with fibre–i mostly eat the same things every day–sometimes Im Ok—but other times I am not–no rhyme or reason for it.

Maybe a fiber supplement?

Yes I didn’t really want more tablets just in case it disagrees with my other tablets and my Diabetes, also in the Winter I make Sausage or Chicken Stew and I always put lots of mixed beans and lentils in my stews.

Mmmmm, sounds delicious and the perfect way to get extra fiber.

Did your doc or anyone give you some idea of how much daily fiber (sorry, I know that looks funny, but that’s how we spell it in the states) they want you to have? From what I’m reading, people with diverticulitis (those pockets in the intestinal walls) should increase fiber to 25 grams per day and drink lots of water. Pockets, such as the ones they found in you, are usually caused by lack of fiber and fluids.

In a way, I don’t get the whole fiber thing either. I’ve always thought fiber bungs you up. But apparently, as long as you’re drinking plenty of fluids, that keeps everything ‘soft’ enough that the bowels don’t have to work too hard to push everything out.

Yeah, I know, weird conversation when we talk mostly about food, but hey, it’s life and I’m totally used to ‘bowel talk’ because, as I said, I live with someone who’s suffered with crohn’s and colitis most of his life and has been diagnosed with rectal cancer (which is now gone, they caught it in time and was able to remove it with surgery) and now has a permanent colostomy because of the years of hell his poor insides went through.

So I’d try and follow the doc’s suggestion and find out how much fiber you’re getting. You can use online nutrition calculators to find out how much fiber the foods you’re eating contains to get what you need. Even little things can help. If you like jacket potatoes, have them, jacket and all! The skin is where most of the fiber is. Beans and other legumes, especially, are fiber ‘superheros’ so your winter soups will be perfect.

And, of course, you know the rest. Fruits (raw or stewed) vegetables, whole grains, high-fiber cereals, the usual suspects

Thanks Linda, again fruit, I can only have two fruits a day because of my Diabetes and only 1 Apple and 1 Pear, because the other fruits there are too much natural sugar in them.

I have not seen my GP yet.

So annoying today, three times the Hospital that I went to has phoned me and three time I have missed the call, because they only do one ring then put the phone down, I am now sitting around with the phone attached to me, so not to miss the call again, I tried ringing them back, but I got a recorded message every time saying, we rung you today, we will ring back later, Goodbye.

I hate it when doc offices do that.

And I weighed myself this morning. Big mistake. I’m up 4 pounds from the last time I weighed myself. To be fair, though, I know why… the last 2 weekends I’ve gotten careless with my eating, so it’s no surprise. I’ve GOT to quit doing that. I hate falling into that “it’s the weekend, so live it up and just get back to it again on Monday” mentality because it doesn’t work that way, if you have blowout weekends on a consistent basis, lol.

Duh me.

Morning all.

Today we are having a spicy Chicken Breasts each with a Hot spicy Stir-fry and maybe some peas with it.

Peas sound good. I may have some today for lunch with my fish. Got a nice, thick cod fillet that I’m going to bake, probably with my favorite Hawaiian marinade.

And the peas will give you some fiber

Where’s Mariana been? I hope she’s doing okay.

Don’t know where Mariana is, not been on here today.

The Stir-Fry consisted of:

Cooked Chicken strips, red & yellow peppers, onions, mushrooms, bits of sweetcorn, t. puree, salt & pepper, chilli, cumin, coriander.

Oh my gosh, I had something similar last night. I stir-fried green and orange bell peppers with onions, sweetcorn and fresh coriander. Then I made a wrap out of it, rolling it all up into a tortilla with a little bit of cheese and a drizzle of Mexican table cream. It was delicious. I think I’ll do a repeat of that for dinner tonight as well.
