Our Official Slimming Club Thread - open to everyone

Hey, I have a good tip for you - drink lots of cider.

For a few days now - owing to the heat - I have had some cider for lunch. ‘Not good’, I hear you say but I fell asleep then during the afternoon. So, neck a pint or 2 of cider for lunch and then fall asleep in the afternoon which will stop all of you from obsessing about food until you wake up. You could take this further and have cider when you wake up too and go to bed very early after.

Always willing to help  .

Is there something wrong with this logic ?

Mark, with all due respect, you’re not helping anyone with your negative comments.

If you have something positive to contribute to the conversation, great. But popping in now and then to tell us, in so many words, that we’re “living to eat” and “obsessing about food”, is not really what we need to hear.

I can see that going without food for any length of time affects people’s sense of humour  .

Just trying to help honestly  .

It has nothing to do with a sense of humor. I’m just concerned that some of the ladies in this thread, who need REAL help, are going to see your comments in a negative way and stop posting altogether.

Drinking a pint or two of cider and then falling asleep for the afternoon? Really? That’s a completely absurd idea. And then adding the comment, after instructing us to do this, that it will prevent us from “obsessing about food”, whether you meant it in a negative way or not, is probably going to be taken that way.

I’m trying to help, too… by encouraging positive reinforcement and discouraging comments that may be seen as unhelpful or even critical. When you’re dealing with obesity, in any form, it’s not a laughing matter. You have to take into consideration that we have people in here who are also dealing with diabetes, which can be a devastating disease (I watched what it did to my mother) and drinking a buttload of cider and then passing out for the day will only make things worse for them. In fact it would most likely make things worse for all of us.

This isn’t just about needing to lose a few pounds. Some of us are dealing with health issues that make it crucial for us to get off the excess weight. I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Not to mention crippling joint pain and heart palpitations.

I don’t mean to sound like a prude, but I agree with Rachel, the logic in your post is a little extreme.

Nice riposte  .

I shall leave you all alone - for now  .

Just being truthful. Obesity - or even dealing with an extra 20 or 30 pounds - isn’t an easy thing to deal with, especially at our age. I’m 52, not 22, and getting the weight off is harder than ever, especially since I’m entering menopause.

So yeah. Couple age with age-related health problems and it’s a royal pain in the ass, to put it bluntly.

 Nicely put

Good grief Linda … just imagine if males had to endure menstruation, menopause and the like !!!

They have absolutely no clue

I’m glad they don’t because, if they did, the world would be one seriously whacked out place

But I didnt enjoy it—it was horrible !!! But did not want to make a fuss-it was my friends birthday after all.

Oh! I thought you enjoyed the dessert?

Yes, i did–that was yummy-but is been so looking forward to the fish–such a long time since Id been there.

Its Ok though, I just got home, downed a few pints of cider and crashed out for the afternoon. !!! lol

Its Ok Mark–we will still allow you to join us—just be gentle with us temperamental women !!

Its probably our hormones—if we did not have them—well we would be just like men, I guess lol lol

I’ve never been the one for Desserts, if I go out for a meal, I would have Starters and Main only.

Had a fry up today, when I say fry-up, I mean, 1 fried egg, 2 bacon and some mushrooms that’s all, my OH has full blown English Breakfast with everything.

LMAO!

I’d rather live in a world full of men than a world full of crazy, hormonal females lol.

And yes, I may have been a little hormonal yesterday and hope I wasn’t too hard on Mark. I like him and enjoy reading his posts (most of the time) but dammit, we’re not food-obsessed! Well, okay, maybe just a little. I just didn’t want that to discourage anyone from posting.

I really don’t know how people eat all that food in the mornings. Those full English’s are the crazy things I’ve ever seen.

I’m not a dessert person either. I can easily pass up the dessert bars in buffet-style restaurants. Just not a big sweet eater, I guess. I’d take a bowl full of peel & eat shrimp over a piece of pie any old day of the week.

Looks like youve been forgiven Mark !!!

No, I rarely eat big breakfasts—even on holiday–I usually have cereal and fruit–or cottage cheese and fruit.

I went down another pound (total loss 1 stone, 1 pound) because I’ve hopefully broken through the ‘barrier’ of when I was on the prednisone. I didn’t gain anything while taking it, but I didn’t lose anything, either. A whole month of staying the same exact weight, most likely halted by the steroids. But I’ve been off of them 5 days now and things are finally starting to move again.

Today all I’ve eaten is a bowl of Special K. Just not real hungry today. I’ll try and have a sensible dinner later on.

Linda, the fry-up was our dinner!

I love breakfast for dinner. But some people eat full fry ups every morning and I just never understood how people can do that

Well done–you must be really proud of yourself xx

I sometimes have scrambled egg as a main meal–but thats all-no bacon or stuff-I just do not buy it. Used to when i was feeding someone else, but stopped all that now. I just buy exactly what i want for myself. plus dogfood Lol
