Well, I think because you were eating too little consistently. Which supposedly causes a drop in overall metabolism. So if you’re consistently eating too few calories, you’re going to always be running in ‘slow mode’ and your body isn’t going to burn as much. My body, however, is used to eating a fairly normal amount and when I drop my back calories back a good degree (whether willingly or unwillingly) then my body turns to its own fat for energy. But if I would continue to eat too little, it’s going to start slowing things down to preserve the calories I’m eating.

Thanks for the congrats. I personally don’t see or feel any difference. I still feel fat. But then I always have. I felt fat when I weighed only 9 stone.

Thanks Linda–I have been told this before–but it still ma\kes no sense to me. I actually at the time did not think i was eating too little-I certainly was not starving myself., and did my best to eat healthily. Still do !!

Well then you just do what you feel is best for you. If you think you’re eating enough, but still not losing weight, there could be something else holding it back. Have you ever had your thyroid function checked? My doctor checks mine periodically with my blood draws to check my cholesterol.

I had never thought of that–my doctor never checks me for anything !!

Doesn’t surprise me. Some doctors couldn’t actually care less about their patients, they’re only interested in making money. My doctor is a gem, I’m lucky to have found her.

You are lucky-cannot even remember the last time she checked my BP, let alone cholestrol, or anythng else. Although, Mind you, I very rarely g0–maybe once a year or so !

Your doctor doesn’t even check your BP??? That’s the first thing they do to me when I get there. First they throw me on the scale, then take my BP and temperature before I even see the doc. I thought that was pretty standard everywhere.

No–she does nothing—no scales, no temperature, no bp.

Hmm, very strange. But then here in the states, they put you through a few things before you even see the doctor. They want all of your vitals first. It’s common practice.

Today for lunch I’m having a frozen meal, Stouffer’s Fit Kitchen. Didn’t really have time to fix anything, getting ready to take my son to his dermatologist appointment. The meal is pretty good, though, it’s rotisserie seasoned turkey with vegetables and sweet potatoes. I keep those meals around for quick lunches or something fast to grab on my way out the door to work if I haven’t had time to fix myself anything.

Great idea Mariana, I’ll follow the thread but won’t join as I’m a lost cause
Just wondered if it might be an idea to list how much exercise has been taken each day as well as food eaten ? Good luck to all !

Thanks Ambre—that is a good idea–I am sure you really are not a lost cause–join in and do your best—we are not always successful–but keep trying.

I just lost half a pound at slimming world—my progrees seems so slow right now–but I had a bad week-tooth anscess, 2 teeth out, antibiotics–chloe is still not right–plus i have hurt my right foot—can walk but only slowly-I am thankful for any result this week !!

Plus I walked to and from church, about to take the dogs for a walk—how long for depends on Chloe !!! my dog

Losing half a pound is better than gaining half a pound

Of course—but when I see some of them losing 4 and 5 pounds a week, every time. I sometimes wonder how they do it…

Well, everybody is different. What works for one person may not work for another. I do it by using a calorie calculator and it tells me, based on my weight, height, age and activity level how many calories I should eat per day to lose. I simply log everything I eat and make sure I don’t go over the recommended daily calorie allowance. Although sometimes I do, I don’t eat the perfect amount of calories every day. Some days I go over, some days I’m under. But keeping myself accountable for everything I eat is the only thing that has ever worked for me and I’ve tried so many diets over the years (diet is a 4-letter word to me now) and none of them worked. In fact I sincerely believe that ‘dieting’ is what made me fat. I took my body on so many rollercoaster rides it wasn’t funny. So I stopped messing with the stupid things and just changed my eating habits.

For me it’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle change. You have to change and rearrange your eating habits to something that’s sustainable for life - not just quick fix. Because you always gain back what you lose, and then some.

And just a side note, 4-5 pounds a week is too much. Unless they were heavy to begin with. When you’re pretty heavy and you start cutting calories, the initial weight is going to come off fast, but it should slow down to about 1-2 pounds per week.

Trying something different today—Weetabix and fruit for my brekast–first tim ever. I did not have it with Milk–goes too soggy, so I had some low fat yoghurt—it was really filling…

Another first—couscous tonight–with salmon–plus roasted peppers and tomatoes—not as bad as I thought it was going to be lol lol lol
Seriously–it was ok, and nice to have something different…

Oh, your supper sounds delicious. I had a pretty good lunch… a ‘breakfast’ burrito. Scrambled eggs, sauteed onions and red peppers, diced tomatoes and avocado slices. It was very filling and very yummy.

I love couscous. I also love quinoa. Have you ever tried that?

I have not tried Quinoa yet–one step at a time–next on my list is puy lentils !!

I love lentils as well
