One random memory relating to you from years ago?

About 1977. Travelling sideshow came to town.
I was driving a Go Kart, ahead of me there was a pile up of all the other drivers. I managed to “Thread the Eye of the Needle” and avoided crashing into them. Continued on my own merry way.

Memory from a school skiing trip in the Cairngorms, I was about 14 and had been watching the slalom on tv. I jumped onto the chairlift in the nonchalant manner of a show-offy teenager, thinking I would show everyone what a real skier looks like…chair lift scooped me up and I’m sitting there like Mr Bean, grinning like an idiot.

Half way up the mountain, my ski’s fell off my feet and gaily went their merry way down the snowy mountain! My goodness I was mortified, and everyone laughed as i stomped back down through wet snow with my grumpy face to get my ski’s.

Never went skiing again. :flushed:

Hello PK long time no see. :grinning:

When I was very small I decided to live in the shed with the chickens.I was there quite some time before they found me.

As a child, I was obsessed with astronomy. I devoured all the books in the library about the subject.

My greatest desire as a child was to own a telescope :telescope:. I spent many a peaceful night staring at the stars. Those were peaceful times.

Have you got a telescope now?

No, I haven’t. I’m in a well light suburb and it would be difficult to view the stars clearly. I do have binoculars though and can see the moon at times during the year.

Did you manage to see the Aurora recently? Did it show at all over your way?

No, wasn’t that fortunate.

Here’s a thread which includes a few pictures from South Africa.

I…was asleep and missed it all. I really didn’t think it would be anything at all…what a silly idiot I was!

That’s such a pity! I went outside to look but other than the night being well lit, I didn’t see anything. I even took pictures on my phone to check but there was nothing

This was after 1am in the morning

hey but its still interesting though, especially for 1am. It looks light enough to see where you are stepping.

Yes, it was definitely different in that regard. Such a pity that you slept through though :hugs:

Oh well, you’ll have to add the aurora to your bucket list.

When I was in first grade, we lived on a military base. The houses were built around a series of cul-de-sacs. Each cul-de-sac had ugly dumpsters near the front that were in the primary line of sight from most of the kitchen sinks. One day, when most dads were in Viet Nam, my mom led the charge to paint each one in a creative way. She designed ours to be Snoopy from Peanuts, lying on his doghouse with Woodstock flying about.

The painting was a big job, so some of the dads and their friends who came around to help. One dad worked on ours and while painting, we struck up long conversations about dinosaurs and planets. I really liked him. However, on the third day, I was terribly upset when he did not return. My mom told me that he was on a “mission” and wouldn’t be back for quite a while.

In my mind, nothing could take higher importance than painting that dumpster, and I was terribly disappointed that Mr. Collins didn’t seem to understand that.

As it turns out, he was off piloting the Apollo 11 command module. I still felt slighted :slightly_frowning_face: .

OK I think you are allowed to name-drop when it’s a name like that. :grinning:

Perhaps when he was "the loneliest man in the universe"he cheered himself up thinking of you and the painting.

Well, I hope so :icon_lol:.

If he had stayed with the stringy-blonde seven-year-old with a missing front tooth and the sparkling sophistication to discuss brontosaurus diets and volcanoes on Mars, he would not have been lonely. That was all his fault .
