New Rules For Motorists Using Roundabouts Are Coming In On 29th January

Probably do it for spite.

Sorry Rox but that looks like really good fun, I could just see myself riding in a group like that…

I live in the country where the lanes are narrow and it’s very hard to pass .
Selfish mamils never pull over when they can now they have the law on their side !

I wouldn’t mind if our roads were properly set up for it. I still have my bike and I used to use it in Perth all the time. Untill I got too scared of some car drivers. Not used it in over ten years now. I know some cyclists are real dangerous but when I was cycling so were some drivers. I used it to go to the swimming pool and to any appointments I had in Town, I wasn’t out on the Country Roads, back then the law was mostly with the drivers and some thought cyclists were fair game to frighten.

Really? Well, it’s now 2022 and we still have a fossil fuelled car.

I can’t believe that you’d be as selfish as them, OGF.

From what I have seen they are moving from human propelled to backed up by a power supply. E scooters seem to think they are part of the legislation (or totally above law) and then you have e-bikes. So where do they fit? Perhaps we should go back to riding horses.

If you know what time they’ll be there; what I’d do is get a crowd of people together and get there before them then all walk side by side down that road not letting them pass :grinning:

Hah, a simple and non-violent protest, Wendeey, i like it. :+1:

Talking of road menaces, when i nipped out yesterday, there was a kid on one of those . . . . . . Are they called Off-road bikes? . . . . A mud covered very noisy, taller than the usual motorbike, racing along the road past my house.
The selfish imbecile was revving the engine and doing wheelies all the way along.
I tooted him at one point, and the result was, he did it all the more.

He went along past a housing estate and past some shops, still doing wheelies along the middle of the road for nearly mile, whereupon he suddenly revved hard, and shot off out of sight.

Nothing i could do to report him for his dangerous driving, as i have no dash cam, and he had no number plates anyway.

Getting back to cyclists though, i see so many at dusk, wearing dark hoodies, and with no lights. How some of these kids get home at night is a miracle.

It’s funny isn’t it that the eco protestors get arrested for blocking roads by standing in the way of cars but bikes riding slowly en masse are ok? The new rule just emphasises an old rule which says that bikes should not be more than two abreast. So you are not allowed to ride more than two bikes next to each other in a lane. However, this does not stop four of them taking over two lanes.

Brilliant! A taste of their own medicine!

Exactly. Yet there’s no way the police are ever going to stop them as they don’t seem to be concerned about anything these days, short of the occasional murder perhaps.

I thought my son was kidding me when he told me about this! :scream:. There is no way I could reach my left arm across and open my drivers door. I have suspected polymyalgia and my shoulders and arms absolutely kill me.

Flowerpower from what I can gather that’s a recommendation, rather than a ‘must do’, some of the others are too, but not sure which ones are which.

Apparently they come into effect on Saturday, but the Government Departments aren’t going to give out press announcements (ads) until a couple of weeks.

Not quite sure if that is what they are saying, Flowerpower?
I thought we had to reach out with our left hand and place it on the doors window ledge or similar, the idea being to remind us to turn and look before opening the door. I think we can still reach down with the right hand to open the latch though, can’t we?

A stooopid idea dreamed up by some twerp, because I can see much further back up the road using my wing mirrors than i can twisting round in my seat.
I thought thats what wing mirrors were intended for!

Horse riders are even worse Muddy, you can’t pass them and have to keep your engine quiet so you don’t spook them. The hooves chop up the paths making them rough and ankle breakers if you’re not careful…
:racehorse:.
