A good read. Thanks to Donkeyman and Swimfeeders. New particles and forces have been hypothesized on both ends of the size spectrum since the smaller and larger objects and energy start behaving in ways that are inconsistent with the standard model and quantum mechanics. This unexpected muon behavior might not be the result of another force, but a particle.

I was going to suggest putting butter on one side and jam on t’other.
