My first E-Bike ride

The connector block (XT60) never came from Ebay, it cost £1.99 plus the same in postage, so, got refund and went on Amazon, got 5 male and female connectors for £5.00 including free next day postage. the control box cables soldered quite successfully but, the battery cables are a thicker gauge cable and were not happy sitting in the groove of the 60amp connector so, I have ordered some XT90 connectors plus a new heavy duty soldering iron, the soldering gun has a habit of switching on and of and is tricky to use.

The seat has arrived for the £37.00 mountain bike so, will be going for a maiden ride this afternoon.

Just been out on the Saracen, went of the development onto the main road working down the gears, got to the hill to the village Centre and the thumb lever does not make the upward gear selection so had to turn round and return to base, time for a bit of investigation.

Just Youtubed, its WD40 time.

Getting the chain to travel up and down all of the cogs can be tricky. Sometimes cable length and sometimes those little adjuster screws on the gear mechanism.

My brother has a bike jig that makes the job easier. Turn the pedals and operate the gears with the bike the right way up and a good few feet up off the ground

mart, its a Shimano thumb and finger cassette system, the guy on Youtube reckons WD40 squirted into the hole where the cable is inserted will free of a spring and a trigger arm which can seize with lack of use or internal corrosion.

This has got out of hand now, to connect the E bike battery up, I bought a soldering gun, and some XT60 connectors, was unsuccessful so I bought a soldering iron and some XT90 connectors, this was also unsuccessful so, shit or bust I have bought two pairs of XT60 connectors with pre attached pigtails (one pair with12 AWG tails for the battery cable and one pair with 14 AWG tails for the connection cable to the control unit) a pack of 10 yellow crimp connectors, and a pack of 10 blue crimp connectors, and a crimping tool, (just thought, I only needed a single male 12 AWG, and a single 14 AWG female silly me) so no more soldering for me. It would have been cheaper to post the first lot of components to Foxy and paid him £20.00 for soldering them.:lol:

Yep WD40 worked a treat, ready to go again tomorrow.

Still awaiting the parts.

The battery side crimped and heat shrunk, just waiting for the smaller gauge plug to arrive.

Just been up the road on the Ebike, what an amazing sensation, no need to use the throttle when you pedal it takes over from you, when you stop peddling the assistance stops, it will take some time to get used to, and I will have to buy a cycle helmet before going on a long trek.

Well done for getting the job done in spite of the setbacks. A nice thing to have for taking the strain but also good to ride an ordinary bike once in a while to keep the muscles in trim.

The ordinary bike can still be good for the nice weather when purely out for the ride, rather than just a necessary ride to the shops etc.

Spitty’s got an electric two wheeler
To tour the County of Kent
Unless he knocks down a peeler
He can ride to his heart’s content.;-)

Seriously, may you get many long hours of cycling pleasure in the coming years.

Thanks Jem, I will embark with a Smile.

Watched this yesterday, was amazed at the cycling provision in the USA, what they are doing is probably illegal there as well, this is Irvine, Orange County, you would get a right rounds of F…Ks, off the Dog Walkers, Joggers etc over here.

Wish these were out in 73.

No tracks like that here. Some places have separate cycling and walking routes. Virginia Waters (part of Windsor Great Park) has separate cycling and walking routes. Also Swinley Forest and Alice Holt. I don’t think they’d be for the type of bikes shown in the video though.

£1,695 for one of those and there are dealers in the UK. That is cheap compared to many others.

The one I built has similar performance and range, but is based on a standard none suspension Mountain Bike. It can be used to its potential but, is rather dangerous in comparison to the Super73s. In the video, apart from the intentional dirt track riding, all those miles of surfaced track did not seem to have one pothole, you would be lucky to get half a mile of surface over here, in an area where you would not upset anyone is neigh on impossible.

Got my eye on one of those Sur-Ron Bikes, a tad expensive though.

I just had a look on the Internet for them. The page linked to below has some specifications…

Been looking on YouTube a bit lately mart, its easy to forget that without the restriction loop plugged in, it is technically illegal to ride (in public place) the bike I have already created, but, at least it blends in. I have yet to see anyone riding one of these speciality machines, especially the one with foot pegs not peddles, which are effectively electric motorcycles, these are prolific in the States by the look of it, and the riders pay scant regard to wearing proper protective clothing.
