My first E-Bike ride

As far as I know, a limit can be set, but it is not a default setting and yes, a carrier has been ordered to house the control box so that and me will be protected by mudguards.

This is the Ā£37.00 Mountain Bike, its aluminium and light as a feather, what a bargain, stuck the new tyres and inner tubes on (which I already had) but I will fit a new saddle.

A smart bike and yes, quite a bargain! Are the brakes hydraulic?

No mart, they are cable brakes.

Carrier and control box in position, have drilled through the down tube in two places to take two M4 X 60mm bolts to come to bolt the Battery carrier to the frame (Tuesday probably).

Bolts should be here tomorrow.

Thatā€™s quite a bit of kit all in all. Youā€™ll soon be going up the hills as fast as you go on the flat.

One aspect I have found good about e-bikes is almost a safety feature, It means being able pedal smartly away at crossroads or traffic lights. The power assistance speeds up that initial crawl that bikes do from a standing start. Gets you across road junctions quicker when you have to choose your moment to go for it.

Battery is now mounted, had to buy one of these today so I can fit the Crank Sensor.

The Ā£37 Mountain Bike is ready to roll apart from a saddle, I pinched a saddle and stem off another bike but the stem on that is a slighter smaller diameter, so, canā€™t risk buying one off the Net in case it is the wrong size.

I have one of those with out the handle. Just needed a spanner or socket.

Emjay, I saw the ones on the net without the handle for a great Ā£3.95, but, I did not want to wait another week for delivery, so I bit the bullet and paid the Ā£12.95 at Halfords

Crank Sensor in place, just got to whip off the handlebar grip again and install the throttle, then tether all the wiring up.

Help needed, below is a photo of the Battery Cable (two parts) that came with the controller, as you can see, it has circular terminal ends that would bolt onto battery poles. The cable on the battery itself has what looks like black plastic bullet connectors, canā€™t see anyway that these belong together.

Just checked, the black things on the battery cable are just covers, so I guess you fit the connectors of you choice, looks like I will have to buy a crimping tool now.

Just watched youtube, bought male/female XT60 (60amp) connector and a new soldering gun.

Ah! I got mine from Halfords but a long long time ago.

E-bikes are taken up by the best of us in the end, even Arnold Schwarzeneggerā€¦

Had a problem with the throttle control, ideally it should be on my right hand but, I have tried all combinations to get the throttle control near to the grip but something ends up fouling something else hence the position, a few inches away from the grip. If it proves difficult to operate where it is, I will have to move it to the left hand side and dispense with the gear shifter for the three cogs on the peddle sprocket which I tend not to use anyway.

It looks as if it would be OK there once you get used to it.

We will soon find out mart, the soldering gun arrived today, as did the heat shrink, just waiting for the actual connector block.

we have had E bikes for about ten years, after six years with our first hybrid off road bike we changed to fold up e bikes, pop them in the back of the car easy to do and they go on holidays with us
