Last year I bought a Spray Gun and a small compressor which will now be put to use. Someone in the past had a go at customizing the Motorcycle I own and made a pigs ear of it so, I sent off to the USA an order for new decals, and am about to acquire a quantity of Honda Candy Glory Red paint, and have a bash at it.
I wish I still had mine
I sold all mine too when I gave up riding, I used to restore classic Brit bikes but the parts got too expensive so gave that up too, but always wished that I had kept a couple in the garage that I could gaze upon now and then, just for sentimental reasons.
I bet your bike will look great when you’ve finished Spitty, be great to see the whole thing before and after.
Yes Barry, I decided to breath a bit of new life into her last year, had the wheels powder coated, new bearings, serviced the brakes, just got to decide how far to go on detailing the engine, as I get older, I am a bit reticent about turning a runner into a none runner so I make sure I have a plan and time schedule before I crack on.
These took a bit of sourcing (from America in the end), the Tank ones are easy because they go on a lot of applications, it was the side panel CBSevenFifty ones that were tricky, at one point I thought I would have to have them copied.

It will be fun trying to position them onto the fresh paint.
The shocks are new, the closest I could find to original, they came from Australia, at a good price, until the import duty was slapped on them which has to be paid before the courier will release them from a bonded warehouse, will know for next time.
Certainly nothing cheap about parts, particularly for older models. Some of my restorations cost well in excess of their completed value, but I guess the pleasure is both in the doing, and the satisfaction of a job well done at the end.
What a great project Spitty. I’m quite envious, I love watching new paint being sprayed on. I sprayed my chopper… twice!
You naughty boy LD !!
Donkeyman!
Keep us posted on progress Spitty, should keep you busy for a bit??
I have never renovated a bike completely but have stripped a few
down for repairs and upgrading?
Wish l still had one or two of them now when l see what they cost
at auctions etc !!
Starting from the oldest, lve owned a four valve 500 Rudge Ulster
with a bronze head
Then a 350 twin triumph 3T then a 350 AJS 350 7R ohc racer
A Vincent 1000 Rapide with a Jet 80 Sidecar and then a 650 Gold
Flash & a road Rocket
Then got kids and ended with a Honda 50 moped ??
Had a few more bikes but nothing memorable !!

DM, the toughest one I did was a Suzuki GT380 triple, when I say a Basket Case, that’s exactly as it arrived. It was the rarer GT380A with a front Drum Brake, was a beauty when I parted with it.
I’ve had a Suzuki 400 and a Kawasaki Ninja 250 but never really worked on them. Ive changed the bars to drop bars, changed the muffler and carburetor but that’s about it. Oh! And brake pads.
Have fun getting it finished add riding it.
I’m hoping to get another bike someday.
Was that the 2 stroke Spitty, or am l mixed up ??
Donkeyman!
Yes it was DM, it rattled and shook, but was alive, and very much of the time.
Shit off a stick comes to mind Spitty !!
D man !

Quite a list there of some very expensive motorcycles there DM and wow, did you really have an AJS 7R? A phenomenal machine and ra9re as hen’s teeth now…
I have had so many bikes over the years I struggle to remember them all, but here is as good a list as I can give for those I remember, and in no particular order…
Francis Barnett Plover (150cc Villiers)
BSA Bantam 175cc
AJS G3L 350cc
Ariel Huntmaster 650cc
BSA A10 650cc outfit
Matchless G3L ex WD
Sunbeam S8 500cc
BSA C15 250cc
Norton Dominator 750cc
Triumph 5TA Speed Twin
BSA A65 650cc
Triumph Tiger100 Daytona 500cc
Triumph 3ta 350cc
Triumph Tiger 90 350cc
BMW R75RT 750cc
Kawasaki GT550cc (my last bike before giving up riding around 8 years ago)
Bloody hell Barry youse a hard core biker man ??
I see you big on Triumphs ?
I always wanted em but somehow only ended up with the 3T, my first
bike !
And yes , l did have a 7R AJ second hand , but in top nick with
roller rockers and a sodium cooled exhaust valve ?
I ran it on the road and took it to Brands a couple of times, but ran
out of money!!
Then l got tired of bump starting it and getting stopped by the cops
that l practically gave it away ??
Then l got a Royal Enfield meteor 700 with a Jet 80 sports side car!
First time l drove, it scared the shyte out of me when l tried to slow
down, massive tank slappers??
You should know about that, l see you had a BSA outfit amongst
your collection ?? But once l got used to it l could make it talk !!
Well it’s been great to talk to you Barry, catch you again sometime !!
Donkeyman! !
outfit among
your collection
Flatted side panels after removing none standard decals, and primed them, its the state of the engine that’s making me indecisive, the engine is a good runner, but, aesthetically is lacking, so to correct the finish will require a strip down not for mechanical reasons, this situation is hard to reconcile.
Bratti, haven’t you got the Suzy and the kawa round the wrong way ??
Or are the bikes different in USA??
