Presenters on Radio 4’s Today programme apologised to listeners after Miriam Margolyes swore live on air while discussing the new chancellor.

The actress had been on to talk about the death of Robbie Coltrane, and had just taken a seat vacated by Jeremy Hunt.

Margolyes said she had wished him luck, but had wanted to tell him to go away - using explicit language.

Later she told producers she had mistakenly believed she was off air.

Some mistake … :018:

Was it though, at least Mr Hunt can be in no doubt how dire the situation is for Conservatives.

Has she dared to say what others think? Do not condone her language but admire her honesty. Said what she feels, MP’s carry on much the same and pretend they have better moral standards.

What did she actually say?

*Wonders what all the fuss is about

‘F### you, you b#####d’ but not to his face, it was after he had finished his interview and had left the studio. To his face she said something like ‘Good luck, you’ll need it’ but said that she wished in hindsight that she had said the earlier comment.

Was on the programme to talk about late actor.
Some tongue in cheek remarks about him.

I used to think she was quite funny for being outspoken, but now after seeing her a few times here and there on TV, she is just plain rude. She thinks she can get away with it because of who she is, but I think she is common as muck.

Gross !

Does not mince her words. Some listeners found her comments amusing others unprofessional, she certainly divides opinion but has no regrets; she has always been like this, it seems.

Her father was a Scottish GP, and her mother a property-developer. She went to Cambridge University and appeared on the first series of University Challenge , she claims to have used the ‘F’ word then in 1963.
