I actually like the subtle tones in this (even though I know its not done). You could use acrylic varnish, perhaps, on bits you want to shine - but I really think this is lovely.
That’s a good idea Pixie except I haven’t got any so I have to hit the art shop . Only trouble is I get carried away and buy far more stuff than I need can’t resist paint !
Filling in the body
Oh those colours are getting a really rich look! And I adore the plaited mane.
I know what you mean about art shops…I could spend all day in the ones here. Even the smell of them makes me feel ever so creative! (yeah, weird)
I love the rich colours Muddy, it brings out the beauty of the horse….
Added a tail .
I have bought some vanish but need to try it out on something before I try it on this one .
What kind of effect are you going for, Muddy? I’m not seeing it as you do, of course, but I’m just curious…its beautiful. Have you photographed it in a different light?
Only just seen this thread didnt know you were painting a beautiful horse . Its lovely
I dont know why I lost the thread as I saw the portrait of your son .
The effect I look for is a real touchable animal I want to see his muscles and the shine in his coat .
Today is sunny ( yay!) so it probably looks brighter ,
Susan I have trouble finding my own threads even now I have to go to activity to find where I am .
It’s stunning Muddy.
Thank you Maverick .
Wonderful, Muddy
Your painting looks so real, I can just imagine the horse getting up on his legs.
Thank you Mags that is what I aim for this is a horse that has just rolled in sand .
While I am waiting for my various oils to dry and am covered in sticky black tar I have reverted to my favourite subject and acrylic paint . Only thing Is I have run out of boards / canvas and am using bits of plywood . Usually I would paint this first with emulsion or gesso but I just used three coats of acrylic to seal it . This doesn’t work !
The paint just sinks into the wood .
Another great painting Muddy, I like his tousled mane….
Thank you Mags .
I am trying to paint in a freer manner estilo Velasquez but of course he master that he was just put in a few dashes of paint here and there and it looked fantastic .Here is a horse by Velasquez
That’s amazing Muddy, so much detail in his picture…
Isn’t it just .
But when you look closely it’s just a squiggle of paint , but it’s the right squiggle .
