Medical cannabis

I am suffering greatly from tapped nerve in my back plus trochanteric bursitis.
I have stopped using the opioid based pain patch as it gave me a rash & the tablets make me sick.

I am now putting up with the pain unless I want to go out & then I take about eight ibuprofen & paracetamol combined (in two separate doses) before I can function well enough to do anything.

I got to wondering about medical cannabis - I’m sure it could do me no more harm than all the painkillers I’m swallowing. I am considering asking my doctor about it.

Any information/thoughts about it gratefully received - especially if you’ve tried it yourself.

You might have trouble getting a prescription.

Carol, also ask your doctor about oral morphine?..as a carer I remember they used to take it orally for pain relief, I also administered myself it through a line after heart surgery, it helped the pain I was in immensely, but I could only press what ever it was I pressed every so often as in time.
Edit to add, I was away with the fairies after taking it though,if you get my meaning.

Yes I know but no harm in asking my GP. She can only say no.

I have thought about getting it illegally but don’t know where to start!!

I want to steer clear of morphine Pauline. I am currently suffering withdrawal from opioid based medication and it’s not nice.

Have you no young relatives that can advise on this?
I personally wouldn’t know where to buy it but I doubt it is that difficult to find out.

I am no expert on this but a friend of mine with chronic back pain due to arthritis tried it with a prescription (ie legal) for cannabis oil and didn’t find it much help.

She gave me the rest of her prescription (ie illegal) and I didn’t find it any help either for my chronic back pain but I am very happy with my opioids which don’t work for her. My back pain is not caused caused by arthritis

My BH has a similar problem and the doctor proscribed Endep.
aka APO Amitriptyline .It seems to be working so far.

I’ve thought of that MrFraggle but it’s really the medical cannabis I’d like - I don’t really want to smoke it.

I’m thinking I could do with a trip over to Holland!

Bruce, apparently you can smoke this cannabis oil, Marriane smokes it in her pipe she was telling me, I think hers is on prescription.

Can’t you just go back to your GP and ask for a rerferral to a back specialist, Carol?

Sorry, but I think you are bonkers taking 8 Ibuprofen and 8 Paracetamol in just two doses.
What’s the point in easing your back but ruining your gut instead?

I also wouldn’t dream of taking illegal drugs either. If something went badly wrong, how would you explain that, and who would be to blame?
I have read that some of these dodgy drugs are not really the content (or quality) they are said to be. So where would you go if it all went pear-shaped?

Make your own. :grinning: :grinning:

Awww Carol, I so feel for you, physical pain can be horrendous, I would far rather suffer emotional pain than physical, it can and does ruin your life, one can’t function properly, I hope you go see your doctor soon and it gets sorted,((((( gentle hugs)))))

@Bratti knows a thing or two

just done a search but don’t have time to look through. There are local organisations you can contact, I think they’re registered, and using stuff via them is considered legal.

I agree with you what a quick way to ruin your kidney and liver as well. My doctor does recommend Ibuprofen as an anti inflammatory and I am prescribed Brufen which is just Ibuprofen with knobs on but i don’t take it that often.

This is the stuff I take. It works very well. The chemist tells me each tablet is worth $50 on the black market.

You can get a slow release version but I prefer taking it when I really need it as I found it’s effect diminished if you took it too often. I have found I can live with the normal level of constant pain so I only take these when it is really bad (for example after mowing the lawn). You can get it in different doses. Endone is another version

My husband suffers with chronic back pain and he is prescribed paracetamol and Tramadol which he takes together 3 or 4 times a day. That seems to work although I must admit it concerns me that he takes so many even though they are on prescription.

It Compassion Clubs that was mentioned.

Here’s a couple of links I googled up

I have had a back problem all my life and have frequent bouts of severe back pains. My doctor prescribes me the highest strength of co-codomols, maybe you could ask your doctor for those Carol.

If you have a really bad back, I don’t understand how you are able to go out walking and shopping. I am always housebound for a few weeks and have difficulty standing upright let alone walking. Maybe you are overdoing the walking and it is making things worse for you. Just a thought.

Oh no - I think I’ve been misunderstood here - I don’t take eight in one dose!!

I take eight tablets divided into two doses.
ie: At 6.00am this morning I took 2 paracetamol & 2 ibuprofen.
At 11.00 am this morning I took 2 paracetamol & 2 Ibuprofen.

Eight tablets in all.

The doctor advised me to take this dose along with 2 codeine also… I stopped the codeine because it made me sick.

Now I have had my total of eight tablets over a five hour period the pain is bearable & I am just about to go out with Tony. Couldn’t have gone anywhere without the painkillers so got no choice really.

The tablets I take are with doctors approval and yes they aren’t doing my stomach any good - hence the cannabis question.
