Plymouth shooting: Suspected gunman and five others die

So very sad and especially so as a child is reported amongst the dead.

My thoughts go out to the families and emergency services having to deal with this.

It was certainly sad and evil but was it really a MASS shooting - just a handful of people surely - I am only querying the descriptive noun or whatever rather than the gravity of the incidence

There are plenty legal guns in the UK, and it’s not difficult to get one by other means if you’re inclined to do so.
Just don’t ask me how I know the last bit, but I can assure you it is true.

Looks like a local killed his family then out into the streets before turning the gun on himself.

The gunman who blasted five people to death in Plymouth before turning his gun on himself was tonight named by locals as Jake Davison (centre). Several witnesses reported that scaffolder Davison, who was in his 20s, had carried out the attack which left a girl of five among those killed. He is said to have shot members of his own family before taking to the streets and opening fire on strangers. His rampage left the girl, two women, and two men dead with the majority of his victims not believed to be known to him. Two dog walkers were among those shot. Witnesses have described seeing the gunman dressed in black and grey and kicking down the door of a semi-detached house and opening fire at around 6pm in the Keyham area of the city just after 6pm yesterday. He was carrying a long-barreled gun and was seen fleeing to the rear of the property and into a park where he allegedly ran into the two dog walkers and opened fire. The area of the naval port city where the killings took place was put in lockdown as emergency response teams raced to the scene. Local MPs urged residents to ‘remain calm’ and stay indoors as they awaited more information, adding that it was a ‘grim day for our city and our community’. The incident – the first in Britain involving an ‘active shooter’ for 11 years – was so serious that Home Secretary Priti Patel was given regular updates. Security sources said it was not being treated as a terror incident.

No, not just a handful @gumbud. Maybe only ‘a handful’ died, but there were several injured as well, all shot by the gunman.

This is horrific! To open fire on your own family (and a child), PLUS random people just out and about. I can’t bear to think about it. Running about with a gun - where did he get it from??

I wonder how many people are suffering from awful mental health issues that haven’t been picked up due to this pandemic.

That is indeed a very worrying thought @PixieKnuckles. It doesn’t seem to matter whether guns are illegal without a licence - if people really want one they will find a way. And if they don’t, there are always knives, readily available. All those people with mental health issues who are not getting the help and support they need.

The killer was a scaffolder. Can’t but help wonder what other stuff he was into that facilitated the opportunity/contacts he had to enable him to get his hands on one.

Time will reveal all, I guess.

"In his final video blog, on July 28, the suspected killer spends 11 minutes ranting about how his life has hit a dead end, as he struggles to attract women or lose weight.

“I’m beaten down and defeated by f****** life, that drive I once had, that’s gone,” he says.

At the climax of his final video blog, Davison claims he likes to think “I’m a Terminator”.

He continues: “The whole premise of the Terminator movies is that you know everything is rigged against you, there’s no hope for humanity, you know, we’re on the brink of extinction, these machines are unstoppable killing machines that can’t be beaten, can’t be outsmarted, but yet humanity still tries to fight to the end.

“I know it’s a movie, but, you know, I like to think sometimes I’m a Terminator or something and despite reaching almost total system failure, he keeps trying to accomplish his mission.”

Davison earlier claims that “most people would have been completely, utterly broken if they had lived my f****** life”.

This horrific incident has been all over our local news. The man was a nutter & posted on Youtube. Why no one realised what he was like before he went on this killing rampage I’ll never know.
My heart goes out to any of the people hurt & any family who survived.
