Liz Truss resigns as prime minister after Tory revolt

Prime Minister Liz Truss is meeting Sir Graham Brady, the chairman of the influential 1922 Committee of backbench MPs, No 10 has confirmed. No reason has been given for why the meeting is taking place.

Is the the beginning of the end …

A Downing Street source has said the PM called the meeting with Sir Graham Brady because she “wants to keep in touch with the mood of the party”.

Deputy Prime Minister Therese Coffey has arrived at Downing Street via the back entrance.

Tory party chairman Jake Berry is also at Downing Street.

While they’re there, let’s hope she reminds them that she single handedly managed to sort out the energy price cap promise thingy, the NI change, and that she’ll get the trains back on track. 'Cos she’s probably getting withdrawal symptoms from not telling anyone that stuff since, well, probably her kids over the breakfast table this morning when they told her that they wanted their bread, like the economy, to be toasted to oblivion.

Liz Truss has dramatically resigned as prime minister after just 45 days in the job.

Tory MPs urged Ms Truss to go after her government was engulfed by political turmoil, following the ditching of most of her economic policies.

Her resignation comes after a key minister quit and Tory MPs rebelled in a chaotic parliamentary vote.

She said she could not deliver the mandate she was elected and had notified the King that she was resigning as Tory leader

There will be Conservative leadership election to be completed within the next week, she says

Liz Truss has been in office for just 45 days - the shortest tenure of any UK prime minister.

The problem we have now is the person who is voted in is someone they “conservatives who vote for leader” did not consider good enough last time so we have what will this one be oh hang on the voted in and out May, Johnson, Truss …Would you stand for the leadership after that track record.
