would that be a wrist action to it’s maximum capacity or a wet limp one Pugsie?? - wave and walk like a sailor I’ze always says!
Cuckoos and comics bring to mind that anti establishment MAD magazine loved by a certain generation.
MAD was originally a comic book that spoofed other comics but soon became a riotous magazine that gave you offerings such as the “Spicy Abridged Book Club,” , those Really Dangerous Jobs for George Plimpton and other offerings.
MAD still exists, with MAD’s gap toothed idiot mascot Alfred E. Neuman still smiling, well it’s more of a grimace these days.
Pugsy, what does Antidisestablishmentarianism actually mean, keep it short though, I may only have 4000 days left, and no blood relatives.
Not to worry Spitty, you can leave it all to the Cats and Dogs home.
Ah yes Mad Magazine, I used to buy ‘Mad’ for a Jewish chap I was apprenticed to in the early 60’s, nothing unusual about that almost everyone in the Jewellery making game was Jewish back then, of course he paid for it I just went out for it. Anyway he introduced me to the magazine, he would pass them on to me when he finished with them.
I lapped up the wacky humour and often copied some of the jokes and used them but none of my mates found them funny at that time.
Mad Magazine was way ahead of it’s time and I’m sure the likes of John Cleese, Michael Palin, and the rest of the Monty Python gang were fans of it too.
I remember one particular copy said on the front cover something like this.
“This is the first page of the USA edition, and it is the first and last page of the Jewish edition”
I never worry, there will come a time when, one can never be Ex-ploy-ted again, Edward.
I think he went to midnight mass??
Stop using words like “Mass”.
does that make a ‘mess’ of him - that’s how they say mass in NZ!
a kiwi girl once asked me " eh ya gennin to mess ? - I said " well yes if ya want me too"
did you ever read the MAD comic spittie??
Didn’t have time, but can guess it’s content, it came out at the start of the “Party” decade.
I bet they’re worth a quid or two now

Middle and high level cloud is streaming from central Australia across the far
southeast of Australia ahead of a vigorous frontal system moving through inland
NSW and eastern Victoria. This front connects to a low pressure system southwest
of Tasmania with a cold air mass circulating on its northern flank. As a result,
showers and isolated thunderstorms are visible about agricultural areas of South
Australia and western Victoria. Onshore winds are producing patchy low cloud
over the Bight and southern Western Australia coast. Further west, a mass of
cloud from Ex-Tropical Cyclone Flamboyan is streaming over the Indian Ocean with
higher level cloud drifting towards the west coast of Western Australia.
Generally clear conditions elsewhere apart from patchy low cloud over eastern
Queensland from a moist onshore airstream.[/SIZE]
as you can see a pretty clear day and we up the top end will be hitting 36C having started at a freezing 18C
It was that dry, off beat humour that was so appealing. Right from the start Mad had some of the best front covers of any magazine then or since
The “extremely important message” was “Please buy this magazine!”. Who could resist that
Front covers for those interested
Pug close enough. It was always wise to know who was coming and going in those days either by land, sea or air especially those Aussies sailors, whose only ambition in life was to take on every Marine they met
Strife and Strewth went together.
especially those at HMS Tamar?
So you tripped over a few of em as well :-D:-D:-D
yes on my way to the walla walla to get back home - I had no shore leave!:-D:-D:-D
and I had to get in training for the next Hash Harriers run :shock:
Wot no Wan Chai.:-D.
occasionally my chinese comprades use to like to tag along with me and my mate cause they said we looked like gweilo coppers and we could avoid trouble - never seen any trouble but a lot of temptation and I high fee to walk the girls home!:shock:
As incomers learned the ropes The World of Suzie Wong and the Arizona soon got the elbow for the smaller bars where fees were a lot lower but the results were the same and after a few San Miguels no one seemed to care anyway.
It still helped if you could run fast when you needed too.
