Leaving nikon for panasonic

Finally made up my mind to dispose of my Nikon camera and lenses either by selling or P/X
couple of reasons why
First of all is weight some of the lenses I am finding a bit heavy and also the cameras. Second having used the Nikon D810 after some time and I realise how slow the auto focus is compared with the Panasonic G9.
Nothing wrong with the Nikon gear still all works fine, Its just that i am not using it or very rarely.
So next week down to the local camera shop and see what they will offer me for it all

Which Nikon lenses are you selling Bazza?

Panasonic are great cameras, I am sure you won’t be disappointed :023:

Looking forward to the photos with your new camera, especially putting the autofocus to work.

I hope you get a decent price for your Nikon.

I have already gone over to Panasonic with the micro four thirds type and got the G9 with the 12-60mm lens and the 100-300mm lens. Not forgetting the Panasonic HC-x1500 camcorder or the panasonicDC-TZ95 compact camera
.

Doubtless Nikon shares will be in free-fall with this announcement.

I have never had a “brand”, I used to like Pentax and Olympus for 35mm then some Canon (movie and still) but finally I am now 100% compact Panasonic (LX10 and TZ110)

at last Bruce we both like the same thing, I have the Panasonic DC- TZ95 with the flip out rear screen and 24-720mm zoom range but not the 1" sensor. This means I can get closer to kangaroos without the risk of being kicked it the private parts

All Nikon cameras and lenses now sold.

Being giving a lot of thought about my Panasonic Hc-X1500 camcorder and how often it gets used. Another is the proverbial weight issue. decision made and it goes, and got a good P/x price for it.
That is not all by far. Now into Panasonic and away from Nikon and with the money from all the P/Xs gives me the freedom to explore more in the Panasonic range of cameras.

Already have the Panasonic G9 so my attention is drawn to the mark 2 version that came out last year. Like everything I did a lot of research on youtube and what struck me most ie the upgraded image stabilization the greater meg pix sensor and improved video.
Sue disagrees but I am a lot happier not just relying on one camera but having a decent backup camera as well.
so into the future when transactions are completed

Gawd, you get through some equipment!

What is the score now? two very expensive camcorders, a massive range of ever changing audio equipment and accessories, lenses galore. You’ve only just bought the G9 but are already thinking of replacing it.

Your hobby must cost you a fortune.

Not replacing G9 and only 1 camcorder going adding G9ii version. May seem strange to you Bruce but I like having two cameras that can share lenses. It is going back to when I had to send a camera away and for repair and not having any I realised how handy it is to have a backup camera ready. I can’t see any point in owning Nikon and Panasonic equipment when it is far better to stick with the same make.
The camcorder is now getting a bit to heavy for me now so getting lighter camera equipment is the obvious answer.
The amount you must spend on chasing after kangaroos, across all of Australia, with nothing to show at the end of it must cost you a fortune, However if its your hobby the cost doesn’t come into it.

That is true but I am still using the car and camper that I bought 9 years ago, traveling is the hobby not the mode of transport. Whereas your hobby doesn’t appear to be photography but the hobby is buying and selling very expensive photographic equipment.

I mean how long is it since you sold the Sony camcorder and bought the Panasonic one, surely it is only a couple of years? The audio equipment is even more recent. It is all documented on this forum

I’m glad Simon and Garfunkel stuck to Nikon, these lyrics would have been tricky with Panasonic

I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama, don’t take my Kodachrome away :notes:

Bruce ÂŁ10 to someone who has nothing is a lot of money. Those who have ÂŁmillions then ÂŁ10 is virtually nothing.

Most of my Nikon camera equipment was on the older end of the photographic era. The Nikon D810 was nearly 10 years ago since I bought it and the last lens about 5 years ago to replace a lot old one.
Since then mirrorless cameras are the norm and from other photographic sites I belong to ,a lot of the older members are changing to four thirds for the same reason I have, and that is weight.
Bruce, god bless him, is it appears very concerned about what I am doing. Must be an Australian thing after watching all those Kangaroos in his neck of the woods

RS, hobbies are expensive, but, most that involve some sort of equipment, you will always have an asset to sell in future, all be it at a loss.

The way I look on stuff that I’m selling or throwing out is is that I had my money’s worth, use or enjoyment out of them. I’ve given things away on that basis even though they might have cost me a good bit of money to buy when new.

S9 Full Frame Mirrorless … is your obvious next move RS.

That’s my kind of camera d00d.

Photography is my only hobby. Cameras, the only thing I waste money on. But it doesn’t add up to much: a £800 camera the year before last, I think it was about £400 on a used camera & lens last year.
