Johnson no confidence vote - how do you think it will go?

What will happen at the no confidence vote?
  • He will win and continue as PM for the foreseeable future
  • He will win but resign in the next 12 months
  • He will win but be replaced as Conservative party before the next general election
  • He will lose and resign
  • He will lose but refuse to resign
  • He will win but it will lead to social unrest and revolution

The short term isn’t the issue here, its the longer term implications.

There are a lot of these votes from the remainer 5th column, plus those like Hunt who want to have another chance at being Prime Minister and then those who are Brexiteers fed up with the slow progress on immigration, the economy and regulation and those who are opposed to Boris’ green agenda and the cost to the tax payer, including the cost of living crisis we are in now due to the lockdowns.

Not much to do with Partygate (IMHO) but more to do with MPs using it as a lever to try and reform his leadership into something they can all get behind. They know that if Johnson starts making the right decisions on taxation, the economy, Brexit etc he will win the next election hands down. A day is a long time in politics, 2 years an eternity.

I think he will win the vote of no confidence (marginally) so he will be safe for another year, but going forward he needs to put conservatism at the forefront of his agenda or he will be ousted by the voters the next time. So, to all the lefties who hate the tories, they are actually cheering to get the most socialist conservative PM ousted, who is certainly more socialist than labour at the moment in favour of him being replaced by more conservatism.

Just in case you thought this couldn’t get any more weird.

Expect a massive cabinet shakeup though… I reckon this could see the likes of Baker coming to the front benches in return for support for Johnson … and maybe, and hopefully, IDS having a front bench position.

Damn good question, not knowing the ins and outs of the machinations of the tory party who know, I hope he loses, time for a GE, it can’t be said we’re better off under the tories, oh I know world events play a part but are we able to manage them under this rag tag government, Boris imo was a one trick pony, win the brexit vote, that was it .

It is important to remember that this is a secret ballot. Office holders in the government don’t need to resign if they vote against Boris.

Hi

Boris is lucky the vote is now, if he wins it he is safe for 12 months.

They should have waited until after the 2 by elections, if he loses them, he would have lost the confidence vote.

You forgot the “Don’t Know, Don’t Care, It doesn’t affect me.” selection.

…none of the above. BJ will win this time but won’t survive for long .

I think the lying narcissist in number 10 could be in for a big shock when all those MPs who have been holding their tongues express their true feelings about him in the vote tonight.
Or maybe it is wishful thinking and I am crediting them with undeserved integrity .

Swimmy I don’t understand why any MP with integrity would need to wait for the byelection to give a vote of no confidence in the PM , why would 3 weeks change anything if a PM has proved himself an incompetent liar.
I say this as someone who voted for Johnson having had no choice the alternative being Corbyn .

BJ will win the no-confodence vote but, for the remainder of his tenure as PM (which is likely to be shorter rather than longer), the sword of Damocles will be handing over his head … :dagger:

2 more MPs have jumped ship this morning Norman and Penrose , I wonder how many more will have the guts to show themselves before tonight

Hi

It is a numbers game.

If Boris survives tonight he cannot be challenged again in the next year.

He has a good chance of winning tonight.

If the vote had been held after the by-elections and he had lost them he would be much more at risk of losing a no confidence vote.
Getting rid of Boris does not mean s general election.

It calls for an urgent rethink by mainstream parties of how democracy works in the UK, including steps to reconnect citizens with politics and politicians through devolution of more powers. It calls for greater checks on executive power to safeguard representative democracy, laying blame at the door of Boris Johnson’s government for ignoring parliament when it can.

Have no confidence in politicians or the parties.

Most Popular Bets

Boris Johnson Wins (2/7)

Boris Johnson Loses (4/1)

Boris will win this no problem, the numbers aren’t there if what Liam Halligan (GB News) is saying is right.

Watch the leaks about those who voted against him all come out as the clock ticks towards 10pm tonight, just in time for the news.

In the meantime, all eyes on Starmer and Rayner …

I think Johnson will win the no confidence vote but the voting numbers will give us an idea of the level of support he has among the MPs.

I have a feeling that Johnson will eventually be ousted before the next general election.

There isn’t anyone better than him to replace him with. Hunt would be a catastrophe and so would Gove.

It doesn’t matter who replaces him

Any replacement would still be better for the integrity and soul of our country than knowingly keeping a corrupt liar in office, that is pure cowardice and moral bankruptcy

Decent people shouldn’t reduce themselves to keeping hold of nurse, for fear of finding something worse

It matters a great deal who replaces him - there isn’t anyone who would win an election like Johnson did. If we have another general election it would be another coalition government that would get nothing done, just like Cameron and the Lib Dems.

Who would you vote for as Prime Minister ? Starmer ? Hunt ? Ellwood - they are more morally bankrupt than Boris Johnson and thats who you would most likely end up with.

You can keep calling him a corrupt liar and morally bankrupt as much as you like - we knew this before he got elected in 2019 - look what happened.

EDIT

And look here !
