Thanks shropshiregirl.
OK, Iāve had scans before, particularly 18 months ago when I was in hospital but Iām not sure if they were full MRI scansā¦my memory of that time is a tad nebulous.
What happens if you have metal parts in your body? I understand that Iāll be entering whatās basically a very powerful magnet and I have a titanium plate in my jaw and pins in my left elbow.
There is a horror story in todayās DM: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5324235/Man-killed-sucked-MRI-scanner.html#comments
Just make sure that you advise the people doing the scan that you have metal in your body and they will know how to deal with it. You wonāt be the first person that had needed an MRI scan, with metal in his body, so try not to worry!
Ask them if you will be safe in the scanner, and donāt get in until they can assure you that it will not cause any problems.
A bit of topic, but maybe worth mentioning. If you have any metal parts in your body, you should never use the Tens pain relief machines either. This was very firmly impressed on to me by the surgeon who put all my bits of metal in.
Sorry for going off topic but the above posts jogged my memory.
Today I phoned the MRI team and they reassured me that the titanium plate in my jaw, plus the metal pins in my left elbow wonāt be a problem for the MRI.
Thatās reassuring for you Dreamy:lol:
Now Iām worried about my tattoos - I only have 3 fairly small ones but am not sure of the pigment used. There is a lot of misinformation out there.
There was an episode of House where a patientās tattoos started burning during an MRI and they didnāt switch the machine off.
You will be fine Dreamy. You have a button to press anyway.
I wish someone could go with you.
I stayed in the room with my hubby.
Iām sure it was just a CT scan I had before (that I can remember, anyway) and there was no button to push.
I know Iām worrying probably needlessly but I canāt help it. The internet isnāt always a good thing.
You are my sweet.
There is a panic button.
I still donāt think Iāve processed the cancer I had, nor the Delirium it caused although that was all 18 months ago now.
So procedures like an MRI scan scare me a bit. But during last weeks check-up my bloods are fine so itās not cancer I have, just some musculoskeletal disorder. It hasnāt stopped me sleeping, though, and I still have a good appetite, just not getting out much at the moment.
I know, I know.
MRI will show everything. Try and stay calm Dreamy:lol:

Thank you.
Iāve got a busy time next week with appointments.
Physio on Monday at 2:40 - Iām hoping they will give me some advice and exercises that may help me until I get my MRI and results.
My G.P. on Tuesday at 8:15 - a review of my medications - I really want to decrease and stop altogether the codeine although itās been very useful Iād rather see if I can manage on just diclofenac and paracetamol for the pain.
The psychiatrist on Wednesday at 9:30 - it will be a new psychiatrist as my old one took early retirementā¦again a review of my medications and a more general chat about how Iāve been doing managing my various ailments and conditions.
Keep us informed Dreamy.
Busy week for you.
Maybe itās something caused by the cancer treatment. My SiLās brother has a problem with his leg muscles after having chemo. He also has tinnutis. Who knows what it can do to your body.
Iām in hospital now since Tuesday night. Yesterday they tried to do an MRI scan but couldnāt as the position I was in was excruciating. Today theyāre going to attempt another plus a CT scan but this time with more painkillers.
The food here is very good; the other patients and staff have all been friendly so I hope they find out what is wrong. It was taking me 20 minutes to dress myself and I was having trouble buying stuff in Tesco, having to explain to people that my arms were wrecked.
when I had my MRI and CT scans they played music while in the āTubeā. They did find a spot on one of my lungs but nothing to worry about said they
Please believe what your Doctor or Hospital people say , not what you read on the internet. All you read on there is bits taken from various sites , its nothing like the truth. Face to face Doctors are the ones to believe, anything else is usually out to make money.
You will be great , it will all go well and be over quickly , and you will be wondering why you were getting so wound up.
I slept well last nights night - 9 hours solid, unusual for me when not in my own bed.
