Let us walk through the events that led to this issue. Spoiler alert - it is Trump’s fault.
Trump decided he wanted a big beautiful ballroom (presumably to compensate for smallness elsewhere)
Trump decided to go get funding from friends, billionaires, would-be friends - plus he said he would put some money towards the ballroom as well (honest, fingers crossed, scouts honour)
Trump did not wait for any approval or agreement and got contractors to rip down the east wing (the White House is not his house, not his property so not his to change without consultation)
The White House now needs remodelling because Trump had the east wing torn down. His decision.
The amount of money being put forward by would-be friends, corporations and billionaires to build a ballroom - for Trump - could be seen as buying favour and influence. Or corruption as it is more commonly known. So that was stopped.
But the east wing had been torn down by Trump so re-building of some form is needed. To avoid (more) corruption the only way to fund this is by the government.
Your very short summary in your post is kind of missing some important details, is it not? For balance here is my very short summary - Trump tore down the east wing and created this mess.
If you ignore history and just look at one situation, it is not the first time a Presidents paid for renovations from family funds or donations. It was not against the law then and it’s not against the law now.
People can add all kind of irrelevant context they want, it doesn’t change the facts. No where does it say the President can not do what he did.
How many time have people here used the phrase, better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission? I have been always been against that but when it’s turned around and used against the ones that go by that statement get upset.
Nothing has less value than “what if”, " supposedly" situations.
There is no corruption in the government, leave one to wonder how naive people really are. Shows their true colors.
It’s everyone else fault that the department of justice got involved before the completion, to see the cost that would of been left unpaid. That would of been charged against Trump. But ignorance is bliss. So let the tax payer pick up the whole tab. Make sense if clueless.
Conservatives won 1.7 billion for fraudulent charges filed against them. Tax payers are going to pick up the tab on that one too.
Good rule of thumb, if you’re guilty you pay. If you’re not the other side pays. I was wondering when they would get around to figuring that out.

The whole appears to be a disgrace to the people now, while the average guy is
ruined by taxes and the burden is increasing with leaps and bounds. 1/2 a house
payment alone is Tax and Insurance.

Let us see if we understand the true scale of Trump’s self-serving corrupt behaviour. This is Trump, the president of the US, who therefore has the tax department (the IRS) and the legal department (DoJ) report to him.
So back a few years and a rogue whistleblower shared some of Trump’s dodgy tax returns. This was illegal, the whistleblower was caught, sent to trial and jailed for 5 years. That is not so much not good enough for Trump but more like a useful excuse. So he sued the IRS for $10bn.
The judge in that defamation case noticed that Trump was both head of the IRS and the DoJ - so both accuser, plaintiff, and defendant. Which of course meant there was no case. But before the judge could rule this - the two parties, the plaintiff and the defendant (both Trump) made an out of court settlement. You read that right.
This settlement meant establishing an act which creates a $1.8bn fund to support anyone being prosecuted by the previous Biden administration. A fund paid for by the IRS - that is, by US tax payers. So all those guilty of trying to fix the 2020 election will now have a big fund to draw on to protect them. It will be Trump’s cronies who determine who gets what money. So nothing dodgy here. No chance of the guilty getting off without penalty.
Worse, there is an adjacent act prepared by the head of the DoJ, Trump’s old lawyer Blanche, that pre-emptively gives immunity to Trump, his family and associates … for ever.
Edit - the deal also prevents the IRS from any future tax audits of Trump, his family, his businesses, or the businesses of his family.
Nothing corrupt about any of this.
That’s the way we do it.
All branches of the government are independent and do not answer to other branches. Pay attention to the news, DOJ doesn’t answer to the president. Good night excuse but a lame one. DOJ determines is charges are legal or illegal. Not the president.
And they believe they are equal.

Yes, your grasp of what is going on is so super insightful.
Most likely all of the Donalds appointees will get sacked at mid-term and new laws will be written to replace all the flimsy looking stuff going on now. Congress will then once again overrule the POTUS, make him sort of like in a useless chairs position for the next 2 years. There is a term for that.
But today the Donald said he will go to Israel and be elected there. Wonder what Mel’s thinking?

Most likely there are many judges that the Donald cannot corrupt just cause they don’t buy the skat.
