I was a nightmare for my teachers as I frequently started on the left of the page to write and then swapped hands and wrote from right to left with the words spelt backwards

Left handed used to be termed as ‘Sinister’ and from my Latin days during my time at school, Sinister is a Latin word meaning ‘on the left side’. Also from my dependable memory 
it refers to the left side of the shield (heraldry) as seen by the shield bearer and nothing to do with left handedness.
From my younger days of a London upbringing … Cack Handed also meant using your left hand, where ‘cack’ was a very old term for excrement. The Romans used to use their latrine sponges (xylospongium) with their left hand which probably started all this handed buissness off.

I always wipe my bum with the left hand (using paper of course) do right handed people use their right hand…

When you live in a two bedroom bungalow with a bathroom the size of postage stamp you have to cut corners LongDriver. Even the bath had to go for a extra large shower.
I suppose I could stand on my head and use the shower, but poking the faeces through the small holes in the grate might present a few problems…

Far cheaper than a bidet, saves stressing about stocking up on toilet paper, hours of mirth and merriment and ambidextrous too!
Probably not a good idea for those that couldn’t hit a barn door!

Perhaps we should all get our heads and minds out of the gutter
(or drains OGF-talk about gauche!) and get back to asking which forum members are so unique as to be left handed. I had no idea so many of you are more focused on your bathroom habits, and can’t wait to share! TMI

Oh! missed this yesterday.
I am lefthanded, but use a knife & fork the right way.
Taught my righthanded 6 years younger brother to play cricket, tennis & darts, Parents didn’t realise I’d taught him lefthanded. It did cause a problem for him later at school. He had to re-learn righthanded.

Regardless of ones handedness there is no excuse or reason to use knife & fork the wrong way. The worst sight is someone cutting things on their plate, knife in right hand and fork in left, then putting the knife down, swopping the fork across to their right hand and shoveling their food in. Wrong.

I do find it difficult to cut food with the knife in my right hand though. Fork in left no problem.

In the days when a lot of people smoked the ash tray in the car was in the middle of the dash board between & above the two front seats. So no reason to toss out of either front window. Some cars even had ash trays in the back of cars.
