I Need a British Passport!

Apparently I need a British passport if I want to visit the UK. I can’t just apply for an ETA and use my Australian Passport. How stupid is that?

I thought the new rule only applied to people who wanted to stay in the UK but as I understand it any dual national with UK citizenship visiting the UK must do so on a British Passport.

I suppose I could lie on an application for the electronic visa. I don’t know what they ask.

I was thinking of making one last visit to the UK this year but that might be off the agenda now.

unless you come this week Bruce, it’s not law until 25th Feb!

Bloody marvellous isn’t it…Somebody who was born and worked here are finding it so difficult to visit the country of their birth when people are flooding in unchecked with no documents at all… :009:
We need Starmer and his bunch of tossers out of parliament and somebody put in who actually cares about this country and it’s people…Wherever they live now.
Sorry Bruce, it just makes me so angry…
:rage:

Having checked the current procedure.
Very surprised that the ETA Rigmarole applies to Australians.
It used to be straightforward for Commonwealth citizens. Certainly NZ Australia & Canada.
Which rather suggests. That some nations within. Are not prepared to comply.
As a firm Believer and Supporter of The Commonwealth of Nations.
At some point / time. The UK Gov has quick jerked OTT.
.And should review Exceptions. Certainly for the three nations aforementioned.
Best of luck Bluey.

Hi

An absolutely disgusting way to treat people.

The sooner this lot go the better.

Ridiculous! How did they come up with this idea? Does that mean I need to get ETA if I want to visit the UK for a holiday? I have dual nationality, British/Italian, born and grew up in UK, but I have an Italian passport. I can just imagine showing my authorisation to an airport official and talking to them in my North London accent! They will be confused!

Mrs d00d received an email about this, today. She has dual nationality, British/Portuguese. Why wasn’t she notified 6 months ago? It doesn’t matter, she has both passports, valid.

Starmer is merely trying to tighten security: starting with people that managed to get here without a dingy. That’s the way I see it.

They are probably unable to easily check the British nationality if you come on a foreign passport. Presumably they plan to tighten up non national entry without nationals having to queue for hours

As I understand it @Rose2 you will need to buy a British Passport and are not allowed to use an ETA and an Italian passport.

Actually I can’t complain about the ETA, every visitor to Australia (except Kiwis) have had to have a visa since Noah was a boy.

I’d be quite happy to spend $32 on an ETA for my Australian passport. My last British Passport looked like this:

It appears I cannot renew it but have to apply as a new passport holder.

I might apply for an ETA now and see how that goes its only $32 as I understand it.

It might be because the UK is short of cash that they need to sell as many passports as they can?

Late edit:

Apparently that won’t work

I just can’t see the objection to the UK tightening up our boarders, other countries have done it for years. Many include applying for a visa as well as a passport , as we did going to China for example. We don’t moan or complain because we recognised that visiting abroad is a previlage and their safety in who they allow in is a priority. That even goes for those that emigrated looking for a better life.

Its good, never wanting to go international, no point to return to.

You don’t have a current Australian passport?

Of course I do but as a dual national I cannot use it to enter Britain under the new stupid rules

Wanna swap? :081:

I thought it was the boarders staying in hotels that everybody was complaining about or are you referring to the boarders at Eton? they’re the entitled mob.

However if you mean the UK borders then what is wrong with using my Australian passport and applying for an ETA? Why do I need to hold two passports just to visit the UK? No other country requires you to have two passports.

You don’t really need one, you just want one, yes :icon_wink:

No, definitely not. I have a perfectly good and valid Australian Passport
